  1. On the QB front for the Tigers, I'm glad to see Havill work through his early pick 6. Long term he's the option and it seems the Tiger coaching staff knows that so they need to allow him to work without the fear of being benched if doesn't play perfect. Also I'm not surprised this was the game where the started would unofficially be named. Big game with a bye week seemed like a good time to give the nod to whoever was going to be the guy and let them get a bunch or reps against top competition then the bye week to continue to work on getting better and their craft.
  2. I think '09 defense may be the best over the last 15 years or so, but this defense just seems so much faster than that group and that group could move too. I remember as a kid watching the '97 group with Bernard Jackson and Chip Mattingly and that defense was elite to. Obviously, different time with different types of offensive styles so hard to compare, but again I'd take this group over that group. Jaxon and Micah are big time different makers on the edge. They do a great job at the point of contact in the run game setting the edge, but then also creating havoc in the backfield forcing the QB to feel uncomfortable and getting rid of the ball before they want to. Overall, this is a really fun defense to watch play!
  3. Just from the updates it was hard to get a true read on how the X offense looked. Catching up on the game tonight it didn't look to bad. I'm sure there are some thi gs Coach Wallace and staff want to get improved on and in a hurry but overall this offense looked efficie t tonight. I don't think they're going to be the big play offense like last year; instead they're going to be a methodical unit that will eat up clock. Thought Havill played well against a tough defense. But Male lost a lot in the trenches and it showed this game. St. X's defense is really good. Even without the INTs I don't think Male scores more than they did tonight. Tigers won the LOS and that's where games are determined.
  4. Just from the updates it seems like a lot more positive things happen when I see X run than X pass.
  5. This would be a great topic for a podcast! I would love to see the inner workings of this hire because from the outside it just didn't seem right. Was/is there any tension between Beatty and the Trinity AD to cause the AD to not take Beatty's opinion into account?
  6. HUGE Football Friday tonight! I'll take the Tigers 24-10 tonight. Tiger offense does enough to keep the Bulldogs are arms length most of the night, and the Tiger defense is too much for the young Male OL in the trenches. Go Tigers!
  7. Just a bit of what I've seen of Trinity over the last two years, it comes down to their offense not quite putting the doubt into defensive players and coaches mind. Beatty did a really good job of giving defensive players different looks and kept building as the year went on. It just seems the Trinity offense has come pretty predictable in what they want to do and good defensive teams are able to dictate the play from the defensive side oppose to Beatty and the Trinity offense dictating the play on the field. Just something I've noticed. Trinity does well on defense, last year they just didn't have the "dudes" in the DL they had the few years before.
  8. Agree. St. X defense is championship level, but the offense is still trying to find their footing in the early season. They have the pieces on offense just have to get them in the correct spots. Also, something to keep an eye out for is their punting game. Typically St. X has a good punter, but this year it looks like Zach Marks is punting the ball for them. He is doing fine, but it's nice to have someone who can flip the field for the defense consistently.
  9. Sweeney for Male will be the difference. If the Bulldogs allow him to carry the load then Male's offense will be more efficient but at a slower pace. Male's first drive against Ballard was really good. For Male to win they have to keep Sweeney involved to keep some of the pressure off the young OL in the passing game. I also guarantee in the pregame meeting with the officials Coach Wallace will point out Male's OL likes to get a bit too far downfield on their RPOs.
  10. Massey Ratings has the game at 50% but give the Bulldogs a one point advantage with the score being 22-21.
  11. I'll take BG in close matchup. Both teams seem pretty similar. BG 20-PRP 14
  12. Calpreps projection is St. X 28 Male 17. If Male scores 17 offensive points against this Tiger defense I don't think it will be a good night for the Tigers overall.
  13. Trinity's defense keeps it with striking distance but think the Trinity offense will have trouble putting together consistent drives. Central Grove 24 Trinity 14
  14. Saw some clips of this game...there are some dudes on this freshmen team for the Tigers.
  15. X has been shuffling some OL around trying to find the right combination.
  16. I think last week showed on offense Male is missing that big playmaker that they've been accustomed to the last few years. I don't know if they'll be able to put together consistent drives against the X defense. I also think X has the advantage at the LOS.
  17. Just an odd score without any context. You would think Swinney would be good enough for two scores, but it looks like Ballard was able to keep him in check.
