I took the Bengals against the spread yesterday and didn’t think twice about it. Baltimore - despite their recent winning streak against a slew of horrific QBs - has been showing us who they are.

Granted, he’s pinch-hitting for Collinsworth, but why wouldn’t NBC pony up and bring in a professional for such a high profile game? Jason Garrett is an even worse color analyst than he is a studio analyst. And he might be the worst studio analyst we have going.

If you’re talking the PI on the slant earlier in their final drive on second down, I thought that was an incredibly weak call. There was another weak one early fourth quarter, too. That said, I saw no evidence of KC being able of stopping Dallas when they needed. I did want to see Mahomes with a chance to win it, but oh well. Not seeing a path for KC making the playoffs.

After signing for $6M/year to be the offensive coordinator of the Raiders, Chip Kelly is out of a job. I assume he will land on his feet again at the collegiate level, but the Raiders are a dumpster fire and playing the worst football of any team in the NFL. They gave up 10 sacks to Cleveland yesterday. Sheesh.

I can't get over some of the coaching that exists at the NFL level. This new age of playing Madden and "going for it" exposes so many of these characters. I think yesterday's winner had to be Liam Coen (Aaron Glen gets an honorable mention). You are holding on to a three-point lead with less than 2 minutes to go, and your opponent has no timeouts. Your team just stopped Arizona in their own territory, and you have a 4th and 1 from the 19-yard line. Instead of forcing Arizona to drive the length of the field for a TD by kicking a chip shot FG, you roll out one of the worst decision makers at the QB position and throw an incomplete pass. Arizona drives the length of the field and nearly scores a TD, but had to settle for a TD. The Jags ultimately win in OT. I can't hate too much because Jacksonville is 7-4 and positioned to make the postseason, but I'm banking on long-term Coen being exposed as a liability. It's cute when things are going well, but it can spiral quickly.

At last check Louisville is around a TD favorite. That feels about right.

I think we all get it. The problem is that when teams are regularly having "career days" against the same foe, you can only let the common denominator off the hook so many times. We are all glass-half-full at this point, especially with the injuries UK has and the season being young. But again, we have zero evidence that these are blips when we have all of last season as a case study that they were porous on defense. It is more than fair to ask for a modicum of sustained defensive success, even this early in the season.

I didn't watch last night's press conference, but just came across a Barstool article about it. The gist of it was that the press conference was bizarre, and based on the remarks, the team was not motivated last night, and that, generally speaking, they do not like one another. Mid-season blues at the 10% point of the season is generally not a good thing.

- I brought up multiple times last season that getting behind double digits continually is a bad long-term indicator. Sadly, that doesn't seem to have improved this year, but the season is young. - On the injuries, yeah. Injuries seemed to be an uncommon thing, but the last several years - as you noted - it seems to be more commonplace. Not sure if that is the same with other programs?

I would dispute that the Bears are playing good football. They are winning - which ultimately is all that matters - but every year there is a team or two that piles up wins by being way ahead in the turnover margin, fortunate luck of who/when they are playing someone (will probably get Mason Rudolph this week), and the schedule breaks in their direction. Chicago has played one team above .500 this season. That was Detroit, and they got annihilated. The Ravens, who are .500, beat them by two TDs. All other eight opponents are below .500.

Right there with you. Again, not a massive sample size, but his QBR yesterday was a 2.4. Jared Goff, who was pitiful in his own right, was the second worst of the weekend at 9.5. It was a greatest hits of what most scouts feared about Sanders. He takes way too many sacks and puts himself in harm's way by scrambling for no reason. You could tell one minute into action that the game was moving WAY too fast for him.
