Why just those two schools? Why not all four?

I saw the LCHS athletics site boasted 67 college bound athletes just from the years 2003-2005. That's not too shabby considering they have an enrollment of 846. How many other schools can boast 8% of student athletes go on to compete in college?

I don't believe the videographer had the appropriate field passes to video. I know he was there but I believe he left. I'm not sure the specifics behind what transpired. I think it had something to do with each team only being allowed one video person.

John Jones taped the game. He is Russell's official film man. It is this film the coaches have discussed packaging and selling to the public. Coach Sparks may have no knowledge about this. It was really first talked about by the staff yesterday when they also found out about the KHSAA no-taping.

Russell did video the game. They are attempting to sell the videos for the ring fund raiser. They are looking into the options of doing that.

What will Russell lose next year? Who are some of the ones who will step up and compete for spots?

I don't think they've lost them. Garry McPeek has coached Indoor Football in Lexington (I believe) for the last couple of seasons.

Boy, it sure must be hard to take off those rose colored glasses, huh?

There were some questions earlier last week about Russell's supposed physical play. Here are a few pictures showing their physicality with OC. I'm new at posting pictures, so we'll see if it works.

I'm trying to understand. Yes, of course two non-Louisville can get there. Please explain to me why you think it is fair for Louisville teams to occupy both spots. Do you know how many times in the last 30 years two non-Louisville teams have made the finals? Twice (1987 & 1996). The rationale is "if you want to win, just beat the Louisville schools". We have seen that this is not going to happen very often. It is easy to be a supporter of Louisville schools and follow this rationale. It is very difficult to be a supporter of another school and follow this rationale. It is like putting the UK or Louisville basketball team in the MAC and telling the MAC teams, "it's no big deal, if you want to win the MAC, just beat UK/Louisville". Or better to compare the current scenario where two Louisville schools can make the finals, think if UK and Louisville were both in the MAC. How often would anyone other than UK/Louisville play for the MAC championship? But, it's OK MAC schools, you still can make the finals each year. It is a hard, double edged sword. Louisville teams are usually playing at a much higher level than the other schools. However, even if a non-Louisville school would have a difficult time beating the Louisville school, it is good to know you still have the opportunity to make the state finals. Kids and players play football for the opportunity to play in a state championship. When Trinity and St. X can make the finals each year, there is almost no opportunity for another school to be there.

That has nothing to do with where the line is drawn. Whether or not Henry Clay and Warren won does not justify where the line is drawn. Did Henry Clay and Warren win? Of course not. That is the point. There has been exactly 1 non-Louisville team to win 4A in the past 10 years (Nelson County in 1996) and 2 in the last 16 years. This is my point. Louisville dominates 4A football and the state is going to guarantee two Louisville teams have the opportunity to play in the finals each season.

That is the point. Why is Louisville split in two? There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to split Louisville. In 4A, there are 24 teams in the West and 30 in the East. There are three Louisville teams classified as "East", Trinity, Fern Creek, and Ballard. If you placed these three teams in the West, where they belong, then you have exactly 27 teams in each. That is what makes sense. However, the fact remains that Louisville dominates 4A. There will always be two Louisville teams playing for the state title.

That still doesn't answer the question. If Trinity and St. X are only 8 miles apart, why does one represent the eastern half of the state and one the western? IMO, it's simply to have both teams facing one another each year in the championship game. Is that bad? Not from a monetary and excitement standpoint. If it fair? Hardly.

I didn't say similar to OCath, I said spread teams that throw. Did you forget about Trigg? I saw them spread the field and throw the ball a TON!

I don't know who the other two teams OCath played that ran the wing-T, but I can guarantee you that the offensive system Russell runs is NOTHING close to the wing-T run by DeSales. There are MANY variations of the wing-T. DeSales style is more like Greenup's under TJ Maynard, with double wing sets and many jet plays. They also like to run the half-back with a fullback lead block. What does that mean? Nothing really. However, to say "OCath has been successful defending the Wing-T, so they should have no problem with Russell" is like saying "Russell has been successful in defending the pass, so they should have no problem with defending OCath". The offensive system, sets, execution, blocking, etc. dictate your success, not just previous experience against a certain type of offense. As far as bragging about having 30 int's, you should be proud of that fact. However, how many spread passing offenses has OCath played? I would say several. Playing those types of teams requires your defense to focus on the pass. Now getting 30 int's is EXTREMELY impressive, I'm taking nothing away from that. However, it is not even closely comparable and really shouldn't be brought up. What needs to be seen is how many int's can you get when you are focusing on the run and stacking 8-9 players in the box. If you don't stack 8-9 in the box, it will be a LONG night, er afternoon.

I find it very hard to believe that ANYONE except Sheldon Clark fans predicted you would lose to them. Sounds like cheap motivation to me.

I've never listened to them actually announce a game, so I have no idea how bad they are. I can vouch for them a little on Friday about cutting out and such. I know that Newport's pressbox did not have a phone line. The radio station ordered one to be installed for Friday and they never installed it. They eventually installed it about game time.

Let's see: 1. He scored 24 TD's (most on the team) 2. He rushed for 1259 yards (Most on team; second highest was 771) 3. He had 309 receiving yards (second highest on team) Sounds like a feature back to me.
