  1. I would have no problem with any student kneeling or sitting quietly during the Pledge of Allegiance.
  2. I watch less and a large part is due to it. I quit going to the movies many years ago because I was tired of Hollywood's politicizing everything, same thing for several TV shows and a detective novel series by a writer I used to enjoy. I missed all of them at first but have found new hobbies and interests I enjoy just as much if not more. I'm also healthier.
  3. Thanks for the updates, will have to watch the TV schedule for their games.
  4. I thought you said you were a banker for 43 years? How long did you teach and why did you get out?
  5. Go ahead, there's still time and will be plenty of positions opening up. Let us know how you like it once you actually experience it.
  6. No emotion, why would anyone begrudge them continuing the one single financial benefit? That still does not make up for 30 years or more of lower wages.
  7. And yet the only really great financial incentive to teach is under attack. You conveniently ignore how much less teachers make than someone with comparable experience and credentials. I guess I've known 25-30 teachers on a personal out of school basis over the years; not a one retired before 55 and most were in their upper 50's or older. As for summers off, they all worked summer jobs.
  8. Teaching skills are highly transferable to other fields, particularly management positions. Setting goals, planning, scheduling, teaching, communicating, evaluating, constructive feedback, time management, motivating, holding the interest of 30 people of various attention and skill levels. The list could go on and on. One of the best high level managers I know had an early background in teaching.
  9. 457 B plan does not exist for the private sector. Most non qualified plans are designed for highly compensated key executives in order to get around certain limits that the average worker is subject to.
  10. Camelman-don't forget the part about your company paid you less, in many instances, much less, than others with the same education and certification. And oh yeah, our management, customers and vendors feel free to contact you at home days, nights and weekends to berate you for things that you had no control over.
  11. That has been my experience with those I know who have done that.
  12. THAT should be everyone's focus. Make the funds whole while changing pensions for the future.
  13. If it we're a private pension the government would have required it to be fully funded. That protection was not afforded to public employees.
  14. I'm all for sin. I'm good with bringing in casinos and sports books as well as higher taxes for cigarettes and alcohol. Also for legalizing marijuana and taxing it.
  15. You're right, the other one would be farther away. Although I know several people in Cinti that drive by one to go about the same distance away to Lawrenceburg IN because they've become used to playing there.
  16. For sure, if it passed NKY would be the third Casino in the area. Louisville would have 2, Owensboro would have 2. That's large populations that would not see much increase. There may be more as I'm not familiar with what's in competition in the south and east.
  17. Could be because everyone has had a fair amount of contact with teachers, the other professions not so much.
  18. It's definitely going to be a problem, I'm sure glad all my kids are out of school. Now I'll have to start worrying about my grandkids I guess.
  19. Take a job in the public sector, it seems pretty standard there.
  20. One thing I remember from the article is something about it costing the average person 59,000 during the life of their retirement due to the decrease in the cost of living for 12 years.
  21. Here's some information on the bill. Kentucky pension reform: 7 things teachers need to know | Lexington Herald Leader
