Barnes is 27 of 34 the last two weeks for 291 yards. Most of his misses have been on deep balls. He's had a couple dropped, but for the most part the Tigers have done a good job catching the ball. Again though, most are short passes and screens, but still a pretty good percentage.

Caldwell had 414 total yards while shutting out Union County. Will Barnes threw for 130 yards on 13 of 17 passing with one INT. Rodney Bell rushed 13 times for 101 yards and a TD. Cameron Williams rushed 10 times for 81 yards and 2 TDs and caught five passes for 52 yards. Sets up an interesting district game against Lone Oak next week for Caldwell.

I know for a fact that the Princeton Times Leader preview was mailed out on Aug. 16. I can't believe how long it takes the post office to deliver newspapers. Next time maybe we'll just attach it to a snail and send him in your direction. It can't be any slower.:lol: Glad you finally got it.:thumb:

Also, Williams' six touchdowns ties the school record set by Jerrold Fuqua against Heath in 1997.

Crittenden is really young and they wore down. Lots of vomiting and cramps. The Rockets played hard for a half but just didn't have much zip in the second half. Caldwell looked a lot better than against Mayfield (who doesn't?). Williams caught eight passes for 117 and had 266 all-purpose yards. Bell ran for 104 yards, mostly in the first half, but had problems with cramps himself.

Ugghhh!!! I guess I'm just going to have to get use to long games. Seems like most games back in the day never went past 9:30. Guess I'm dating myself with that one. Wonder if we'll see any speed-up rules in high school like college? BTW, congrats Wildcats!

A Trigg game that DOESN'T take 3 hours to play. Wow. What a concept. Of course, get ready to stay a while when you come to Caldwell. That figures to be a long night.

First, my apologies to ADopted ADmiral and any Danville fans I may have offended in the earlier Caldwell-Mayfield thread. I was just messing with you. You guys have loads of state titles. Just wondered if you still remembered the one that got away. Moving on, I really felt this would be a tough opener for Caldwell because of the new coach, new offense, etc. Mayfield is definitely not a program you want to be experimenting against. Of course, Caldwell didn't do itself any favors with a poor week of practice and Rodney Bell getting himself suspended for the first half of the game. Hopefully a good learning experience for Caldwell, which likely won't face anyone any better than Mayfield the rest of the season. Congrats to the Cards. Wish we all had "down" years like you guys.

Williams will likely start at quarterback but Will Barnes will definitely see action, maybe as early as the second series. It will likely just depend on the situation. Williams may play some receiver, and will probably start in the secondary.

"Tradition never graduates," That would explain a lot. Seems like there was a Murrell that played at Mayfield the last time Caldwell played the Cardinals, which I think was 1994. Coulda been a few years before that, sometimes the years all run together:jump: I wonder if Mayfield folks understand the place Caldwell's win in 1985 still holds in Princeton. It's like... 1a - State Championship 1998 1b - State Championship 1963 (this could also be 1a for some folks) 2 - Win over Mayfield 1985 Expect to see a bunch of blue and gold in the stands Friday night. I figure the Mayfield fans will all be there too. Here's hoping its not 100 degrees at kickoff.

I don't think "air it out" is exactly accurate in regards to the Barnes/Franklin offense. Yes, it's likely Caldwell will throw it more than run it on Friday, but most of those are screens which, in essence, are nothing more than long handoffs. The offense doesn't feature a lot of down the field passing, unless the defense makes a mistake in coverage. The receivers must catch the ball and they must block down field to make it work, from what I've seen. I think Mayfield fans will come to appreciate Caldwell running back Rodney Bell, who is probably as underrated as any player in this area. The kid runs hard and always keeps his feet moving. As far as Caldwell's offense, it could be great, it could be a dud. Hard to tell at this point. I'm just hoping for a good, competitive opening game. BTW, how many Murrells have played at Mayfield, and are they all related?

For a lot of teams and players, this is the most publicity they'll get, sometimes even from their own local media. Great job on tracking down all the information you had in the previews, Scribe. :thumb:

Princeton High School went 6-0-0 and was named West Kentucky state champion in 1915. The story goes that Princeton tried to schedule games with other undefeated teams from around the state but got no takers, so they declared themselves "state champions." I think Owensboro, Madisonville and Mayfield all had some of those West Kentucky state championships in the 1910s and '20s. I believe there actually was a West Kentucky Athletic Association of sorts during those years. The Owensboro newspaper ran a story several years ago on the undefeated Owensboro team of 1917 that went 7-0-0 and outscored opponents 509-2. Scores included 124-0 over Henderson, 116-0 over Madisonville and 104-0 over Princeton. That Owensboro team was listed as a "state champion" of some sort.

I find it odd that someone gets upset because their coach is a hot commodity. Would it be better if he sucked and no one was interested in him? BTW, Caldwell press conference at 3:30 Friday to name new coach.

I'm just saying he kinda has that reputation, earned or not. I think he'll continue to do a great job as long as he's at Mercer County. He would have been a very strong coach at Caldwell as well, or anywhere else for that matter. I just think the folks at Mercer County should be prepared to have Jaggers' name brought up anytime there are coaching vacancies.

I personally taught D.G. how to rebound by blocking his butt out in middle school practice :lol: I was hoping he would get the Caldwell job a couple of years ago but another former Tiger, Michael Fraliex, got the job. (Caldwell likes to hire former Tigers )

No, he's at Bowling Green. He played at Caldwell and has coached at Hopkinsville (girls) and Allen County-Scottsville.

I've heard that Marty is the second highest paid head coach in the state. I have no doubt that Mercer County's a pretty good gig. However, his track record is that of someone who moves on quickly. I would expect his name to come up with a lot of job openings.

Marty was interested. So was Joe. However, neither applied, since most figured Barnes was a lock.
