  1. Caldwell just has a guy who keeps them in his head, sorta like Trigg:jump: Actually, Caldwell's stats are kept the old-fashioned way, by about 4-5 people down on the sideline with pencil and paper. I've looked for a good stat program (meaning a good, cheap!, stat program), but haven't been able to find anything for a Mac that I liked.
  2. I'm no defensive wiz by any means, but why would you play a 5-2 against Caldwell's spread offense? The ol' "don't cover anybody and maybe their quarterback won't see them open" defense didn't fare too well.
  3. PtownDude, Now just under 14,000 posts behind The Scribe.:thumb: But hey, you had a big head start.
  4. The officials did all they could to keep this score from getting even more out of hand. Thank goodness they kept the clock running throughout the second half. Caldwell's subs played the entire second half. I knew Reidland was down, but this game was even more one-sided than I imagined. It could have been 70-0 at halftime. Will Barnes was 16 of 22 passing for 247 yards and a school-record 6 touchdowns with one interception for the Tigers.
  5. With the new playoff format, these two seem destined to meet again in the second round of the playoffs, much like Caldwell-Ft. Campbell (or maybe Caldwell-Trigg?)
  6. I wonder how much the slow, muddy track at Webster helped the Trojans beat Lone Oak last week. On a dry field, Trigg is way too quick for Webster. Weather looks good this week. Trigg 35-14.
  7. I had just about written off Webster. Thought this would be a big (lopsided) win for Lone Oak. Congrats to Webster. Tied with Caldwell for first place in the district.:thumb:
  8. An unbelievable game. Caldwell converts a 4th-and-15 on game-winning drive. Rodney Bell scores on a 9-yard run with 5:05 to play and Jake Pepper kicks the game-winning PAT. Ft. Campbell, which led 13-7 at half, had the ball twice near midfield in the closing moments, but the Caldwell defense held. Bell scored Caldwell's other touchdown on a 34-yard run early in the first quarter. Ft. Campbell was held to 36 rushing yards but put the ball in the air 38 times. Key stat: Turnovers. Ft. Campbell gave it away 4 times. Caldwell had zero. One of Ft. Campbell's turnovers came on a fumble at the Caldwell 1 late in the first half. The Tigers must be living right...
  9. Caldwell really struggled for about a game-and-a-half before you could kinda see the lights start coming on in the second half of the Crittenden County game. Since halftime of that game, Caldwell has allowed only 21 points, all to Lone Oak in the fourth quarter of a game the Tigers had pretty well in hand. In all fairness to Trigg, had Friday's game been played on a dry field, the Wildcats probably would have scored a couple of times. But Caldwell's Rodney Bell could have had a pair of long touchdown runs had he not slipped on the wet field as well. Still, probably Caldwell's biggest win since beating OCath in the 2000 playoffs. Maybe the biggest since beating Danville in the 1998 state finals, at least going by the LitRatings, which had Caldwell a pretty big underdog.
  10. I wish for both teams' sake this game had been played on a dry field. But you've got to play in the elements. Surprisingly, there was very little rain during the actual game, but it rained in Princeton early Friday morning and most of the day and the field was pretty slick. I felt all along that the team that was more physical would win this game, and it did. All in all, a pretty well played game, considering the conditions. I still feel that Caldwell, Trigg, Ft. Campbell and Lone Oak are all pretty even. But it looks like Caldwell and Ft. Campbell might be home for the first round of the playoffs.
  11. Caldwell's run defense has been pretty good this season, especially in the middle. Trigg doesn't seem to pass the ball that well, which would seemingly be Caldwell's defensive weakness (see: Lone Oak 383 yards passing). Meanwhile, Ft. Campbell scored all of its points against Trigg in the second half throwing the football, something Caldwell has gotten pretty good at. It's always a battle between these two, but I'm giving a slight edge to Caldwell.
  12. They still exist, but not in the old way. The drawings have already taken place for the next two years, and this time it defines regions (something they didn't do immediately last time). It's found here. Thanks DragonFire. That's a big help! I'm not sure I'm wild about those District 1 vs. District 5 trips. But, I guess if you get that far you should just feel fortunate you're still playing.
  13. My understanding is that regions no longer exist, so there can't be a regional championship. After the district championship round the next round is just the third round/state quarterfinals, with district winners paired based on a blind draw (someone feel free to correct me on this). I have mixed feelings about the new playoff system. I won't miss 3-hour-plus trips to a first round playoff game, but it was kinda neat to keep track of the "other" district to see who you might be matched up with in the playoffs.
  14. Yes, except for a small few from Providence who think they're P'Town. But really, they should be P'Dence or something. It just doesn't work as well.
  15. Wow! Congrats to Ft. Campbell on a great comeback. I bet that's a ticked off bunch of Wildcats that visit P'Town next week.
  16. I'll go with Trigg by a touchdown. How many Caldwell fans do you think will be in attendance tonight, since Caldwell hosts Trigg next week and goes to Ft. Campbell the following week?
  17. I don't like it when a returner muffs a kickoff and it rolls into the end zone for an automatic touchback. Seems like it should be a live ball, especially since it was already touched. I would be in favor of allowing the ball to be returned out of the end zone AND moving the kickoff back to the 35. That's because I remember Mayfield's kicker sending all his kicks through the end zone. BTW, I've seen WKC crews allow returns out of the end zone in the past, but to be honest, those just weren't very good officiating crews. Haven't seen it happen recently though.
  18. The Lone Oak I saw in the fourth quarter looked dangerous. Not sure why they didn't unleash the passing game sooner. Lone Oak just looked out of it the first three quarters. And Caldwell looked pretty good. Lone Oak is certainly capable of giving Trigg and/or Ft. Campbell a run for their money. Like I said earlier, should be a lot of fun.
  19. Outstanding win for the Tigers. Caldwell led 28-0 through three quarters before Lone Oak unleashed an incredible aerial assault in the last quarter to making things interesting. Man, are there going to be some fun games in 2A's 1st District this season. Still to come, Trigg-Ft. Campbell, Caldwell-Trigg, Caldwell-Ft. Campbell, Lone Oak-Trigg, Lone Oak-Ft. Campbell. Game story... http://www.timesleader.net/articles/stories/public/200609/09/4hpp_sports.html
  20. I think it's imperative for Caldwell to pressure and contain Robinson (easier said than done). If the Lone Oak QB has time to pass, he'll likely hit some big plays against Caldwell's secondary (like Mayfield's QB was able to do). I can really see this game going a lot of different ways. Should be interesting.
  21. I just think it's a shame a kid can't stay eligible. It's not like you have to be an honor roll student or anything. Hopefully Bell gets back for the Trigg County game in two weeks. Caldwell's game plan will remain the same this week, which is to try to wear out Lone Oak in the first half and then win the game in the second half. It's worked the last two weeks, but Lone Oak looks to be better than either Crittenden County or Union County. For those close to the Purple Flash, how deep is the team and how much of a factor do you anticipate conditioning to be Friday? Surely coach Haskins will try to sub a lot or slow the game down some.
  22. Bell is AI. It's pretty common knowledge around the program although, technically, schools and coaches aren't supposed to release that information anymore. Heck, coaches "technically" can't tell you whether or not a guy has a broken leg even if you see the player walking around on crutches.
  23. If only it were that easy. I just can't figure some kids out. This probably hurts Caldwell more on defense than it does offense.
  24. After seeing a little bit of Lone Oak on film, it looks to me like the defensive fronts are the keys. Whichever one gets better pressure on the other team's QB is probably going to win. I don't see Lone Oak running the ball that well against Caldwell, at least not inside. But Lone Oak's QB looks pretty mobile and may be able to get outside. Meanwhile, Lone Oak likes to bring a lot of pressure defensively, but that could make them vulnerable to big plays off screens and quick passes. BTW, no Bell this year either. What a shame.
  25. I don't think there's any doubt Rodney Bell's suspension (coupled with Allen Wadlington being slowed by injury) cost Caldwell a win at Lone Oak last year. This year's game figures to be a toss-up. Defensively, Caldwell has been pretty strong against the run but not very good against the pass. That figures to favor Lone Oak. Offensively, Caldwell is light years ahead of where it was against Mayfield. I think Lone Oak will struggle defending Bell, Williams and Will Barnes. It may come down to the team that has the ball last. I'm going to take Caldwell, just because the Tigers are at home (and I'm a big homer )
