Point well taken but i don't see that as being 'funny stuff'. If you know anything about E-town you know they are throwing the ball very well and a good field will play to their favor in that aspect. But, i don't think anyone has a right to play on a bad field so they can slow down the other teams speed. IF anything teams should have a right to demand a good field to play regardless of who they are. There aren't many games strategies that include finding a mud hole to play in so a team can win. Yet. I must admit i have heard the stories of people watering down their home field to slow down a fast team that was coming to visit. But in this case the home team has the option of securing another site due to field conditions. Also, you are right Western did lose in pitiful conditions last friday night but other teams including Washington County were able to win in those conditions. It wasn't the speed factor for Western last week it was the problem of holding on to the ball. I think you bring a valid question. I only question using a phrase like 'funny stuff' or whatever it was. It sounds like someone is cheating. I can only assume you didn't mean that but that is how it sounds.

I recall Wayne having over 300 yards rushing last season against Greenup County and around 250 against Morgan Co which was loaded last year. He also had 280 against Fleming his sophomore year and they won 9 or 10 games. He is a hard nosed kid. I would venture to say that Wayne would be an fine addittion to any team in the state. His role might have changed on teams with a lot of speed but his physical style is what makes him so impressive. We are proud of Wayne no matter who he is playing against. By the way Brad Angel was the only all-state lineman blocking for him at Rowan. But he ran behind one 'hell' of a line there. I promise you that. Go get them in the playoffs Wayne! For you that might want to say something negative (as i read in a couple of posts) remember this is a high school football player. Pat him and his teammates on the back for such an accomplishment. Who cares about who he played for or against. What an accomplishment! A positive thing by a teen. We need more of these kinds of things noticed imo.

IF you haven't been in the 'arena' you don't have a clue of what it is like to step into a situation like Poynter took on!!. Regardless of who they play he has done an outstanding job just getting a team together that wants to compete. To his credit he took the lessons he learned at Pike County and used those to do a fantastic job at Trimble. Yes Trimble is in over their heads tonight. But, if the trimble kids "fight" the score doesn't matter. It is the willingness to show up at the battle and give all you have that defines improvement. :thumb:

IMO Marty will take them as far as they are destined to go. In other words they won't lose due to him not working or making bad play calls etc. He is one of the top coaches in Kentucky bar none. If they don't win it it will be because they get beat by a better team not because Jaggers didn't do a good job. Last year he took them as far as was meant. Russel had just a little more than Mercer did last year. This year is yet to be determined. I see the merger being a key in Mercer winning at a high level every year not just one. So there is no way Jaggers will be judged on one season. His career has already been written. Here's the way it reads: To keep it short. He is a proven winner. He has taken Lincoln Co. to the championship as a head coach (as well as many wins) and was a key in Danville's success over the last 7 or 8 years. :thumb:

If i were picking pre-season 2A right now. I would probably go with this: 1. Russel 2. Mercer 3. Belfry 4. Owensboro Cath. 5. Ft. Campbell 6. Corbin 7. Larue 8. Trigg 9. Desales 10. Western Not very scientific. Some of these i don't have a clue what they have back. But tradition mandates that i put in a couple of them. I'm sure Breathitt and P-Burg should be in here somewhere. I think Middlesboro is 2A aren't they? Does anyone know what they have. Sorry. Didn't mean to get to far off the subject. Maybe another thread on pre-season 2A should be opened. Either way I think Mercer has some obstacles to overcome where the other two i put in the top three have that tradition established. But Mercer will have great coaching, tremendous facilities, super administration and lots of talent. Their outcome may depend on who's turn it is to travel in the region and semi-finals.

There have been some crazy things happening in the coaching ranks this year and this has been one of them. Good luck to the kids at West Jessamine.

I think Marty runs the other 'system'. I hear that his son Josh is breaking into the coaching ranks and himself coached the JV team at North Hardin to an undefeated season last year 'rollin the bone'. I can't wait to see them play. It isn't often that a team has to figure out where to place all the talented players they have. Usually a team is short on something. It usually means a championship season when a well coached team has it all. I am really curious as to what offense they will run. I am pretty sure they will probably be in the shotgun most of the time and throw it about 30 times a game.:lol:

You're right; personally i don't care about the academic issue this is a football board.:jump: That's not to say that the academic end isn't important to most other people. Also, some of my info is factual and some just speculation just like yours and others. If i am laying out points for both sides of the issue which i am allowed to do (i think) that is ok. I am a fan of Mercer and Jaggers. Just because i don't live there and don't work there (which is true) doesn't mean i have changed my mind on being a Mercer fan. Also, friend, i can assure you that i dont care what "appearance" my comments give to anyone.:laugh: I have no personal issues with you but these are just responses to your point. So back to the point. There is another topic about Mercer. This topic is basically old news. The merger is a done deal. I sure hope your team doesn't have to play Mercer next year.:fire:

One more thing. It has been indicated in this thread that this may not be well planned timed etc. Look a little harder. Also, since Harrodsburg had to vote on the measure to consolidate first and then go to the Mercer board i don't see how common sense would allow anyone to think Mercer has had complete control over the merger situation. It is a matter of good timing (by coincedince) i might ad. So no i am not saying the Mercer deiliberately waited to announce this. They had no idea that Harrodsburg would go this route this year. I don't work for Mercer county. I don't live in Mercer County. I only know what my common sense tells me. But i want it to be clear that since you don't know me you shouldn't assume what i know or who i know. I don't think Mercer is consolidating with Harrodsburg only for athletics. But as i have said before it is exciting for those involved in the athletics. Not only football but all sports. If you want to see Mercer in a 'bad light' that is up to you. I choose not to see it that way. By the way i did not say they did this to avoid the classification issue. It might have sounded that way. I am only saying it was good timing in that aspect. Maybe merging athletic teams at first is part of a plan to slowly bring the kids together. Maybe that is the plan. I don't know this i am only analyzing it like everyone else. As i said earlier there might be more of a plan than we all actually know. I don't think when the Superintendent at Harrodsburg retired a while back he decided to set his retirement date based on what class the merged athletic teams would fall under. Regardless i could care less what esteem the other 2A schools hold Mercer in and i bet they don't either. The schools didn't merge to make the rest of the state happy. They merged to improve their kids opportunities on the athletic fields and in the classroom. It is a done deal so get over it. How about something positive about the merger and drop the negative? Simple. The Khsaa cannot change anyone's classification in the middle of a 2 year cycle. The redistricting runs on 4 year basis but if a school has a signifigant enrollment change after 2 years in the middle of the 4 year cycle then they can go up based on the numbers. In this case it is a matter of timing. The Mercerburg administration did it perferct as far as timing goes. There is no way their classification can change until after next season. That is why i have been posting responses to those saying that this wasn't well planned. Brother this has been in the (unofficial) works since Jaggers was approached to take over Mercer. This is great for the HogDog's!! I couldn't be more happy for Marty and his staff as well as the Mercerburg kids. :dancingpa

With the lack of success that Bill Goldsmith has had at Lawrence and the pressure being on this year i could see him going after this position imo. He is very close to McPeek and Damron. I hope Billy goes after it. Good luck Lions!

Collins is back. He ran a 10.83 this year in the 100 and has been timed (hand held) at a 4.38 in the 40. He is weighing around 170. There are some others on the Western team that are in his class as well. Hope this helps. :thumb: :ylsuper: :dancingpa

I think Mercer currently wears a blue helmet.

I think someone said earlier that Mercer lost a lot of lineman. So that will work out well.

So would quick pitch be a big play in the offense :lol: . I for one am very happy to see an entire community do what is best for all their kids. I also think they couldn't have had a better guy than Marty Jaggers to be the head man. He will work well with the incoming staff, players, and parents of Harrodsburg. To answer this issue i will say that surely the superintendent from Mercer has already done the homework on all these kinds of issues before any vote was taken. Seems like many people have good (curious) questions. But, i will tell you that Mr. Johnson of Mercerburg is one of the smartest superintendents in the state. He also cares deeply about the kids and his epmployees. I see nothing but positive in this move. I guarantee the khsaa has already been involved in planning this merger. Go Mercerburg!!:thumb:

Since there will not be a Harrodsburg there will be no contract fees involved. If it were so poorly planned then i don't think they would have been taking the time they have to make all go as smoothly as possible. Maybe this has been in the works much longer than you know. Maybe it has only become public as of late. :eek: :lol:
