  1. Mike Neal was just a few yards short of the 1000 yard mark...literally around 10-15 yards away.
  2. If WHS gives up 60 points they deserve to lose Cat, but some of the kids that were out may make a big difference on the defense. We both know how big losing a starter is especially in 1A ball, much less multiple starters. This should be a great game, and I think surprisingly, that defense will decide the game for the Jackets.
  3. This game in an enigma to me. LC is tough and can run the ball on anyone, but Campbellsville is big, fast, and talented...which should mean they win...right??? Wrong they seem to fold when it is on the line i.e. round 1 of this matchup. I will grant that the Campbellsville has probably improved since the first game, but 33 points is a lot of ground to make up. My gut tells me LC 27 CHS 20
  4. I did say it was a game full of turnovers; I simply didn't recall that many. I also think it takes away from the gutsy effort the Cats showed. The effort didn't seem to be there in the Williamsburg losses, except the 2nd half at Campbellsville. So there is not a difference in my posts regarding focus and excuses. Focus is penalties (200+) at Pineville, throwing to wide open DEFENDERS with mental mistakes, and missing assignments. That is certainly different than simply fumbling on 2nd effort plays, having a ball stripped/knocked out, and so on. The fact is the game is over, and further discussion of this doesn't belong on this thread...there is afterall a WHS - LC thread somewhere. Clinton County has nothing to lose in this game...so I expect to see a team playing with abandon tonight...the challenge is for WHS to respond.
  5. Yes they lost focus against LC, Bath, Cumberland (they never had it)...and so on. Every game there has been an opportunity to either get back into games they were losing, or put away teams by landslides when they were winning. Las week the Jackets had approx. 20 point lead and turned the ball over and let Pineville back in it. The reason I say let is because a man without hands and grease on his arms could have caught the pass that was intercepted...it wasn't an outstanding defensive play...simply an offensive blunder. As I recall this occured against the Camp as well. It was certainly a turnover full game...but I do not recall 7 turnovers by the camp. I think making that excuse takes away from LC's efforts without a player they have leaned upon the whole season. Now for Clinton County, they seem to be prostrate...but perception is dangerous. The young Jackets can not overlook a team in the situation that Clinton Co. is in. They seem to be like a wounded animal in a corner...ready to lash out at whatever moves in their direction. This game may be closer than many think if WHS does not come to work and get after them. Friday night will also see a time in the game come up when the Jackets can put it away...will they learn from the regular season and get it done in the playoffs? WIN OR GO HOME!!!
  6. Corbin...Big...as big as they want to let it get.
  7. Always good to see a kid step up and play well...Thomas Rains and Jake Moses were both kids that played more than usual and did their jobs. The team on the whole must regain, and maintain, focus now that the playoffs have begun...win or pack it up until spring!!!
  8. Clinton was without their best player in the earlier game; that may make a difference. The Jackets have seemed to lose focus in the last few games...Lynn Camp included. The Jackets are a pretty good team, but they are not good enough to EVER put a game on cruise control and finish it out. I hope they can maintain focus and put this one away in a fitting fashion. This game and every one forward for WHS is a must win or go home, and the kids have to keep that in mind...the stakes are much higher now.
  9. Pineville and Harlan are certainly better than Clinton County...0-10 and in.
  10. Question about round 3...I notice it says high seed, odd/low district. Does this mean that when the even district meets odd in the region finals that the high seed hosts??? Or does the odd district host regardless of their seed??? Hypothetically a 4 seed could win out and host a 1 seed if the odd district hosts regardless.
  11. Bath is tough...and has speed at RB, and the QB is one tough son-of-a-gun. I think Bath has a DL/OL that is sufficient and will win by 10+.
  12. Fritts is awfully good, so is Watkins...I would certainly have a hard time picking between the two as well. Fritts seems to have the numbers, but it is a crowded backfield...that happens to be pretty darn talented.
  13. They are struggling right now...it seems after some very competitive games early the team has become discouraged over time...there are some outside forces that are hurting the team as well. It seems as though every parent in Whitley County is JoePa and knows all about football coaching. Coach Black and his team are fighting battles off the field they should not have to deal with, but if they get through it they will be better for it in the long run. Believe me...I am NOT a Whitley fan by any means, but I do feel for the kids and coaches that are having to deal with some of the things that are going on out in Goldbug. They have potential to be better than they are, but as I said after some tough early set-backs the wheels got very loose and may have very well fallen off the wagon for WCHS...maybe they can right the ship and get a few wins to get some silver lining, for this season's end, going into next season.
  14. Williamsburg has a solid soph. class led by Ryan Moses QB-through 8 games he is 164 of 299 for per game 283.0 and 26 TDs. Thus he has 2264 total yards...unnoficially after the Evarts game he is up to 30 TDs and around 2600 yards...KHSAA updates the official stats on Thursdays, so we'll know for sure. He also has a great supporting cast of other Sophomores in Dusty Brown (a leading WR in class 1A), Daniel Pettite (6'4 230 WR putting up solid numbers), Stephen Taylor WR, and Jeremy Collins OL/DL. These kids have been crucial in a season that has seen Williamsburg put up 1441 yards rushing and 2271 yards passing through 8 games. They will only get better over the course of the next two years and through this years playoffs.
  15. What is Fields' injury??? He is an impressive player that is heads and shoulders above everyone he steps on the field with. I hope it is a minor injury that he recovers from quickly.
  16. Closer than the experts think...Whitley may surprise.
  17. Williamsburg played Cumberland with some key injuries...that three game stretch really hurt the morale of the Jackets; the Lynn Camp game was the first time since Bath County that Williamsburg was healthy across the board.
  18. There were bright spots...but the game was somewhat sloppy for WHS due to the big game last week...sort of a hangover affect. The best part is the Jackets still haven't truly shown what they are capable of...they have room to improve upon this effort tonight and move on to Pineville and the playoffs.
  19. Yes it is a tossup...given the newer info. on injuries etc...I have to go with Corbin...Cole is too good to be contained...and if you double up on him someone else will make plays. ALL defenses have holes no matter how solid the scheme...and those holes get bigger if you have to double up on one great player...with that said many have said SHS is minus some linemen...that will certainly level the playing field due to the quality of Corbin's OL/DL...thus the prediction.
  20. I truly hate it for that young man...he's a great competitor.
  21. John Cole is the real deal...if given the chance he alone will win the game...he is that good. I look for Corbin to try to disguise their coverage in order to keep this explosive player in check, but you can't keep a great one tied up all night. Being at home gives the Jumpers an advantage as well. Does Corbin maintain focus??? Can Corbin slow down John Cole??? Will the QB have to run for his life??? These questions will determine the outcome of this game, and I'll have to say I like Somerset's athletes, but Corbin is pretty deep. CHS - 42 SHS - 35
  22. Attention teachers and students...at this time all girls should report to the school nurse's office to pick up your daily perscription...If they are stepping as far as giving the "pill" they will surely be all-capable of dispensing it appropriately and on schedule.
  23. Frankfort probably has three back there heads and shoulders better than anyone they will play as well...hahaha. That is my point; this offense has to have superior players in order to work properly.
  24. Corbin by a lot...the district streak continues.
  25. No matter what the street, is there is no room for slurs...I am a realist...and know that trash talk occurs, but it should not cross the "race line" for posterity's sake. Do people realize what statements like these do to their own character? These young men have been made aware of the nature of this and this should not be a problem in the future for the Jackets.
