  1. Keep in mind that Lowrie and Barton play WR as well.:sssh:
  2. The O-Line does show daily improvement...King has been a very nice surprise! The others you mentioned (Collins, Root, and Perkins) seem to have picked up where they left off last year with good off-season work. LG seems to be more of a conern than a mystery. Chris Wright has the tools to play there if he continues his improvement through the summer, as does Devin Jones and Daniel Mitchell. IF each has a good off-season, then that position battle will be interesting to say the least.
  3. They are both fine young men. I couldn't say enough about these kids. They will both have nice careers at UC, and more importantly they will get a quality education.
  4. Jarrod Barton (so), Chris Lowrie(jr), Robert Wagers (jr), and Travis Thomas (jr) all look promising in the backfield. The schedule sounds tough with the likes of South Laurel, and Hazard for non-district games...Berea returns to district play, while C-Ville and Lynn Camp will be their usual tough selves. I also believe Harlan is on the schedule, but don't quote me.
  5. The rule is not reasonable...This could be done in April or May with much more favorable weather. KHSAA should change this, but when do they ever do what makes the most sense?
  6. Young...WHS losses 4 of 5, but returns the starting center and two rising juniors that started on the DL only this season. So the Burg returns 3 OL with some experience. The coaching staff has to find two more that can move around and block within their scheme down there and they should be fine.
  7. I thought I picked up on some unsettling activities on my way out...after the turnover on 4th and long...I was too cold. Was it the crowd on the sideline near the Corbin cheerleaders? I thought I heard some of that mess on my way out the gate...Those folks are not representative of the average Corbin fan...in fact Corbin fans seem somewhat dossile when compared to those from the past.
  8. Key words in your caviat Bubba...IF and work TOGETHER. What was the situation with the starters having to sit? It seems that Coach Robinson has had, and is having, to fight an up-hill battle to instill discipline in some of his players. It is good that he has hit them where it hurts for all teenagers...playing time. That may adjust the offenders. Coach R has done a fine job turning things around to this point...the building of a program does not happen over night. With that said, this win is a step in the right direction...congrats Big Orange.
  9. The running game was not there because NCC was able to load up the box. Corbin did not adjust and NCC was able to sit in that defense all night. They basically ignored Corbin's WRs on first and second down. When there are 7-8 guys stacked up in there it is difficult, if not impossible, to run the ball or to block them all in the passing game. I don't know how many times I heard negative fans calling the OL out...heck there are 5 of them and NCC brought no less than 7 defenders the majority of the night. The NCC defense was allowed to dictate this game from the outset...it is nearly impossible to have success on offense when you are facing 3rd down and 7+ all night long. NCC's depth was also a major factor; with Corbin's injuries being glaringly obvious. I really think Corbin missed Watkins more on defense in the second half. The kid played with a lot of heart; I thought he was seriously injured last week when he was rolled up on late in the game. He is a good player. Corbin had a good year and they have nothing to be ashamed of. They are certainly disappointed though, because Coach Jewell and his staff set a high standard. They always set high goals, and the goal year in and year out at Corbin is to get back to the championship game. When you start out with such a lofty expectation then it is tough to settle for anything less, no matter how good it appears. There are a lot of teams out there that would love to be at the level that 13-1 is less than you had hoped to achieve. Congrats to both teams; good health and safe travels to NCC in the finals.
  10. Lowrie does have outstanding speed...and in the spread it is a little easier to run the ball than lining up and running over the guy in front of you. The running lanes it creates are simply unfair. The combination of Ed Lawson's power style and the mismatches with 4-5 in the box was deadly for many teams this year. Lowrie could be even better just because of the speed factor. I sure would like to see another Lawson style back in that offense though.
  11. I saw a solid Corbin team last night. They will be hard to deal with at Campbell Field, and there should be a huge crowd there. I was disappointed with the crowd last night though. I think Corbin is playing better TEAM football than last season. It seemed last year that it was about certain groups or certain individuals...i.e. the linebackers or the receivers etc. Even though those spots may have been strengths the individual units seemed to grow bigger than the team for some players. This groups seems to have a singleness of purpose, and that is to win. They do whatever it takes as a team to win. Personal glory doesn't seem to matter to these young men, and that is what it takes to become a champion. At home I like Corbin in a thriller. CHS - 27 NCC - 21
  12. Whitley hosts...Letcher travels. The higher seed or even region will host the semi-state. Letcher would obviously be the lower seed than presumptively Highlands from region 3. If Whitley wins they are Region 4 and both them and again assuming Highlands win will be 1 seeds, thus Highlands would make the trip to Gold Bug.
  13. Whitley has had a spectacular turnaround, thanks to some good kids and Coaches; Black, Davis, and Gibbs have done a particularly impressive job this year. I think this will be a great matchup...the old addage that says "it is hard to beat a team twice" is in play, but Whitley pulls off a close on in the end. WC - 24 LC - 21
  14. Be safe P-Burg, good luck Hounds. I hope all players on the field play well and remain healthy. This will be a great mountain football game. Keep rolling Corbin.
  15. The machine that is Beechwood just keeps on winning, and winning, and winning. BHS by 16
  16. Good health to both teams represent the region well. I have to root for Raceland in this one since they are a public school. I pray that both teams play their best, it is well officiated, and the young men remain healthy and proud of their accomplishments this season.
  17. I am going to the first Corbin game I have been to in nearly 3 years. Having said that I have kept up with the Hounds and I think last week they got the cobwebs out. Bath is a decent football team...I said it last week. Corbin just had to weather them. P'burg is also a good football team that may jump out to a quick lead. I think Campbell and Watkins wear on you quite a bit though. I saw Bath move the ball all over P'burg and turned the ball over. In this type of game special teams make the difference and Corbin certainly has the edge there. Corbin 30 P'burg 21
  18. When Bath played Williamsburg they were full strength for about 3 quarters...then they lost their better RB...he is quick, and the line is pretty physical and big. I think Corbin has solid depth; if Bath does I did not see it early in the year. Corbin needs to put this one away when they get the chance because teams you are "supposed" to beat in the playoffs that get to hang around until the 4th quarter tend to bite you...i.e. Mad. Southern 96, Taylor Co. 99, and Larue 01 to name a few. I think this is a focused group that should win by around 28 to 35 points. Corbin 42 Bath Co. 16
  19. IF WHS wins next week they have to have the best defensive performance of the year. They can not afford many mistakes on offense either. This has to be the best football the Jackets have played this year for them to win.
  20. I am pretty sure I heard that Paris had less than 20 yards in the first half with a mountain of penalties against WHS. Unofficially of course, I think Paris had negative total yards on the night.
  21. Williamsburg has some good young kids they are just inexperienced. Pineville's older players took advantage of that and scored 3 TD's. The Jackets took a business-like approach in this game and systematically dismantled the Pineville defense. WHS played pretty well on defense too, which has been the big secret this season...they have a much improved defense over last year's squad, giving up aroud 17 points per game this season.
  22. PHS tends to get "emotional" in games. They lose their composure from time to time. I hope it is a clean game and the players from both teams stay healthy. I think if WHS plays well they win.
  23. Simply comparing the weather potential with the Jenkins game...they have a lot of work to do up there. They aren't anywhere close to LC.
  24. I don't think it changes much...WHS played in a downpour in Jenkins...they have also run the football more than they have thrown it this year by around 200 yards or so total.
  25. Looks like a Camper trying to post locker room material.
