  1. I hope the young man gets a chance at the next level (Manns). The fact remains that Corbin, although they have a history of sending athletes to the next level, is not a college prep school...by that I mean that the coaches will do what is best for this team. They will place people in positions that will benefit the team's progress toward winning another state title. College football is not at the top of their list of concerns. If the young man can play...he will move on. Not very many high school kids play the same position once they reach a campus anyway. So to say he should be moved because his college stock would be improved is ludicrous. The team and their goals come first...it is a we proposition, not a me proposition. Players must be goal oriented with the most immediate concern...their senior football season...if it goes well colleges will take notice and they will take the next step if they are so fortunate. Best of luck to all of these prospects, but don't lose sight of your high school season, team, and goals because they will have passed too soon.
  2. See post in unsigned d1 players. In addition, he may have a chance to play earlier at Wofford than at some of the bigger schools. Bobby Gibbs at Whitley would be a good resource for Caleb if he is seriously considering the terriers. Gibbs could give him some insight into that program from a player's perspective. Coach Ayers is a class act and Wofford has top notch facilities.
  3. I know playing bowl subdivision ball is a big draw for a young kid, but Wofford is a great school. If a young man has his priorities in place schools like Wofford, Furman, and Samford offer solid football and great academics. If Caleb Watkins has an offer in hand from Wofford, he has drawn the interest of a top notch coach and program. Best of luck in his senior season.
  4. My point is that college sports should not be the high school athlete's primary focus. Coaches have a duty to promote able athletes; college coaches find good players through their high school coach's recomendation. Coahes must also be honest and realistic with their athletes about college and the recruiting process. It should be a goal for some kids, but not the goal.
  5. You said a mouthfull there. Firstly parents need to realize that high school sports are not a grooming ground for college sports. Take a kid like Josh, he had the opportunity to play at the next level. He may or may not play, but no one can deny that he was an exceptional high school player. Only about 1 or 2 of every 100 high school football players will be offered a scholarship. Kids are just that...kids. They should be allowed to enjoy whatever sports they want, because they will never have the chance to play multiple sports in their lives. They do not need the added pressure of trying to play for a scholarship. They should play for each other and for championships. If a player is good enough, colleges WILL find him! Parents must be more realistic about sports. There is nothing in the world wrong with being a great high school player that can not play at the next level. Secondly, learning to perform under pressure is crucial in high school sports. Most coaches want players to be versatile athletes. If they play only one sport this is not possible. If an athlete plays baseball for instance, he has approximately 30 more opportunities to perform with something on the line. If he only played football he would have a maximum of 15 possible performance events. Experience goes a long way in high school sports. Now back to Corbin, they will be a solid club. It will be exciting to see the position battles this summer/fall to fill the voids left by graduation, especially at QB.
  6. Some good, hard working, young men you have all listed. Looks like a potentially good season if everyone continues to work hard.
  7. I would also add that the turn around and the making of school history with the best season at wchs is a good reason to get a ring.
  8. Right...it is funny that one has to be "older" to be a head coach. I believe in paying dues, but to what degree? If you can coach, what is the problem? The energy younger guys bring is good for a program. I am biased of course, but the fact is there are a lot of younger guys out there that could be good head coaches now. We may need to start a new thread on this one, rather than hi-jacking this one.
  9. Oh I don't really know about his situation...I was referring to the age discrimination in general that happens to younger coaches. Back on topic: Greg Duncum at Corbin. Even though he is not coaching this year, he was a former head coach at North Laurel and returned to Corbin as an assisstant. He is a quality person and coach. He will be a good one if he decides to return to coaching.
  10. It is too bad for Mr. Logan that so many people in administration age discriminate. He is a baby in their eyes, and hasn't paid his dues. He could be the best coach in the world and be shot down for a lesser coach that happens to be 10 or 20 years older. Good luck to him though.
  11. I have heard this as well. I hope it is not true; Duncum is a good one.
  12. I think he is paying his dues and moving on up the ladder...in that business. It is pretty cut-throat out there.
  13. As far as pure athleticism, Bram Hoover. He had the opportunity to play at basically any school he wanted, but he chose to pursue other things after high school.
  14. Some of the states best were multi-sport players. Chris Lofton comes to mind, Montrel Jones, maybe Brian Brohm, and many others. One can be good at more than one sport. The best athlete I have seen in the last decade at Corbin played baseball and football.
  15. Things must be vastly different at MC. They have had superior talent the last two years and couldn't seem to do much with it. To say they are close to Knox is ludicrous.
  16. One certainly must know/learn the difference in being a coach and a fan/cheerleader with a whistle.
  17. I agree 100% Leonidas, but you have to make the most of a situation...I'd like a clean slate too, but that may not be the reality of the situation...I would at least give the guys in place a chance, interview them etc. Then I may keep em or cut em loose.
  18. Manns has the size to be a tackle...also has great feet, but I don't really know how physical he is. Heck tackle or TE not much difference in Corbin's offense. It really doesn't matter who the QB is, all he has to do is hand off and pitch it every now and then...may throw 100 times on the year.
  19. :deadhorse: :deadhorse: Well the week they were to play McCreary is the week they are playing Knox Central...I'd say that is an upgrade...It is funny that a 4A club is so fixed with beating WHS...I guess it is because they haven't been able to in so long, even with one of the best athletes in the state and a massive line. :deadhorse:
  20. I think South has a few quality coaches...they have some young guys in place that would also likely stay on board...IF they are loyal. LOYALTY is crucial in a football program, especially when keeping assistants on board from a previous staff.
  21. I would expect a coach from the outside. Typically only very successful programs promote from within; south isn't bad but have a ways to go before winning championships.
  22. Where is this job posted? What does the situation look like?
  23. Jellico wk 0 South Laurel wk 1 and in no particular order Campbellsville Lynn Camp Clinton Co. Berea Hazard Maybe Harlan...not sure. Don't know the rest, but I'd guess Pineville since it is such a long-standing rivalry.
