  1. Here's the before and after effect of the class expansion: % difference of largest to smallest school in 6 classification system (size differential): 6A - 112% 5A - 31% 4A - 23% 3A - 22% 2A - 51% 1A - 285% % difference in 4 classification system (pre-change): 4A - 152% 3A - 43% 2A - 44% 1A - 395% Heck, the size difference in the smallest 2A to largest 5A (in the 6 Class proposal) is barely bigger than the % difference from smallest to largest 6A team, and worse, is THREE TIMES LESS than the difference of smallest to largest 1A team... :sssh:  IMO, this makes it glaringly apparent that a class system with a smaller "upper 20" and "lower 20" classes is needed even MORE than going from 4 to 6 classes...!! :bunny:
  2. Now where have I heard THIS tune before ?? :sssh:
  3. A couple 2A Titles go a LOOOONG way, don't they ? :thumb:
  4. I'll weigh in here: The criticism I have against my team is...there's NO excuse whatsoever for a coach not being aware that the administration official to whom potential transfers are to be reported is the Principal, and NOT the Asst. Principal/AD. "Ignorance" is NOT an excuse for any coach. OTOH, I'm pleased to see Mr. George played the situation square and did what he was supposed to do - report the violation to KHSAA. One other thing that needs to be said: Other teams "doing the same thing" over state lines or not has absolutely NO bearing. I don't care how or where "XYZ High" got their talent. I want my alma mater to "do it right". In today's game I'm not sure it's even possible to reach the top while "doing it right". If it should ever happen, however...it will mean MUCH more than it otherwise would.
  5. I was going back only as far as Beach.
  6. IMO, the best two this part of the state has seen played for the same Belfry team year before last.
  7. uhhh, 3W...I think you mean "sentiments". A nasty mental image in invoked when talking of your "sediments"... :sssh:
  8. oops... I sent you until '45... I'll amend what I sent to include '46-'48.
  9. Maybe I am a "self-involved PHS fan"...just not the same PHS you imply. LOL, surely you don't dispute the fact Paintsville is the "original city school"... ?!? :sssh:
  10. It made the difference in the 2A Title game in '93... ( ) But of course, it would hardly be practical to replace posts (at a college venue) only for the HS Title games. And even more trouble would evolve from having the officials "judge" whether the kicked ball was within 3 ft. of the upright.
  11. Toots... I have records of the P-burg/Belfry matchups from the '20's to the '40's. I'll send what I have soon... (another good source of info is the Ashland Independent)
  12. Do I understand that you're saying school sports is more important than CATS testing ?!? Personally, I don't think any sort of practice or game should be allowed testing week NOR during Spring Break...
  13. I voted for Valley because they had at least one memorable player ... Randy Brooks.
  14. The Tigers scored 6 or 7 in the 6th inning to pull it out... That's about all I can add (I was helping in the concession stand).
  15. Yes, exactly, as did I... (and I voted for Manual, too, I think). My previous post was NOT meant to argue T shouldn't get the nod here. Obviously, T should.
  16. With all due respect, it's no less "right" in this letter's category than any other. It's funny it took a thread with a "big 3" school to acutely demonstate what's happened in these polls. IMO, the biggest factoid these threads have proven is...the majority of voters are "homers" and/or vote "popular". I'm really disappointed in the lack of historical knowledge these threads have shown exists regarding this state's high school football history. :bunny:
  17. This alone is enough to withhold my vote from Rockcastle. If Russellville was competitive through the modern era, I'd consider them. Russell wins this one by a big margin... :bunny:
  18. uh.... I'd say BOTH of those teams are closer to D3 than 1A (high school) ball.
  19. You mean the softball players who played basketball ?? :sssh:
  20. LOL... yeah, but they sure haven't been an "always there"... You really shouldn't look for reasons to vote for the Louavull entry... :sssh:
  21. Also... a surprise here is Paris receiving only ONE vote.
  22. My friend...I know you speak from the heart. If there were enough like you there, it could get done. ANY coach (that would accept the $$ for the job) that enters the debacle of Betsy Layne football would take at least 3 yrs. to put just a competitive team on the field, let alone the 5-6 yrs. to turn it into a winner. Heck, basic blocking/tackling technique take more than ONE season to learn !! 2 of the last 3 coaches have failed ?!? I emphatically disagree - no one has even been given a fair shot ! :bunny:
  23. No, I think the answer is much simpler. Paintsville historically (>20 yrs) and in BMR's high school days, was much more a football school. I believe Coach Runyon just wanted the school to maintain its football presence in general and thought he could do the job. Maybe he didn't realize the extent of the workload, however... :sssh: As far as Central goes, the county school has always been the more self-conscious if their sports teams dropped below the standard of the original city school. That's not meant to be a cut - Central should generally have better teams than Paintsville (more students, better facilities, more $$$) and that hasn't been the case since Central's inception. :bunny:
  24. LOL... Just realize people have short memories. There's plenty of proof in these "letter" threads. Also...Paducah is a much more populated area.
