  1. Did I understand the radio announcers say Belfry had two TD's called back on penalties ?!? If so...they'll be plenty of "input" from the Williamson area soon...
  2. Wouldn't this discussion be better served in the "Public/Private Debates" Forum ???
  3. If judged strictly by each teams opening game, it would be: Belfry 27 Ashland 0 But...it rarely works that way, especially in Putnam. Look for a pretty tight game, instead. Something like: Belfry 20 Ashland 14
  4. Need some more sand for those bags ?!? :sssh:
  5. Even I (the perennial 2A "defender"...LOL) didn't take GIAT's comment seriously. Didn't you all notice the " " ? :jump:
  6. Then... the solution is easy: Have 10 team districts statewide...only the winner of a district advances in tourney. That cuts the number of playoff weeks wayyyy down. It also has the side benefit of teams ONLY playing district opponents during the regular season.
  7. Wow... I have very little clue what the Blackcats will bring this year. A combination of work and involvement elsewhere has worked to keep me out of the loop. All I can add is, Prestonsburg's JV and Freshman teams showed some nice ability last year. But I'm finding this is kind of fun. It's similar to Christmas morning when you were a kid and you just didn't know what you wanted under the tree - ALL the packages contain surprises. Here's hoping I like the bulk of what's in the wrapping !! :bunny:
  8. The whole "watered down" point is getting a little old now... A State Championship is what it is. It all comes down to a list of priorities...and how those currently in power rank them in importance and where they compromise. Geography vs. Competitive Fairness vs. Title Integrity
  9. They're certainly off to a good start... Breathitt has been fun to watch, though...even in their few down years !! :thumb:
  10. Oh, I'm here... But honestly, the point has already been made.
  11. THIS is a very astute comment... My compliments !! It also explains why Central has tried so very hard to have Prestonsburg use one of their non-district slots to schedule a game with the Eagles. The Blackcats are the reigning "program everyone loves to hate"...
  12. Speaking of having to spell things out.... You misspelled "excussion".
  13. I don't wanna talk about last season. Belfry could have used only those players living in the Belfry city limits (if there is such a thing) and beaten us badly last year. It only "consumes" me when someone from out of the area sees it. It's simple confirmation of what I'd pointed out a looong time ago. It ain't my song this time. Complain to Devilologists. I'm only singing backup.
  14. Hahahaha !!! We ALL know you're a mixed up pup, BB. You don't have to document it (you know I love ya, sweetie !!).
  15. Read what you just wrote... You admitted there's a "few" along with "2 or 3high profile players". But yet, you also claim there's NO competitive advantage for Belfry ?!? Without the "small number of kids from WV" coming to Belfry, there wouldn't even be "2 or 3 high profile players that got a LOT of attention" in the first place. Two players you mention made ALL the difference on the '03 and '04 Belfry teams. We both know how close our teams were those years. Do you think Belfry would have gotten past Prestonsburg each time without both or even one of them ?!?
  16. By the rules, I agree, it's supposed to be that way. But that most certainly is not what I've seen over a number of years here and elsewhere.
  17. Toots... I'm not throwing stones here, but I think there's something you don't understand. Prestonsburg High IS "one of the county schools". It is NOT a city independent (ala Pikeville and Paintsville). P-burg High's district is Prestonsburg (of course), AND... Auxier, Middle Creek, Allen (some choose Betsy Layne), and Martin (though most go to Allen Central). Belfry High School was built to accomodate the students in northeastern Pike Co.. Since Belfry High has historically been slightly larger than P-burg, I assume there's at least as many students in Belfry's school district as in Prestonsburg's. NOW... add the students coming from across the river.. See what I mean by "competitive advantage"? Would it make a difference if I said potential competitive advantage ? I'm not arguing the right and wrong as to "why" WV families send their children across the river, only that IT HAPPENS. :bunny:
  18. That's why I'm partial to the moniker "Greater Williamson All-Stars"... But seriously, this is old news. It's been going on a LONG time. Some years its fewer, some more. FWIW, neither of Belfry's '03 and '04 outstanding RB's were born in Kentucky. It's just one of those things that seems to become -more- important when you expect YOUR home team to be pretty good yet you know they still have to get by them in the playoffs. If anyone knows that feeling, Prestonsburg fans do. Trouble is, there's really no fix as long as out-of-state students are allowed to transfer into Kentucky schools without the level of oversight in-state transfers garner. So practically...all one can do is root for your team and hope it can overcome the competitive disadvantage - like the Red Devils did last year, btw. :bunny:
  19. Hmmm... Just how sure are you those three are better than Belfry ?!? As sure as the many who thought NewCath would win -convincingly- tonight ?!? :sssh:
  20. Wonderful win for the Rams... :ylsuper: Raceland used to be a power in NEKY. Here's hoping this is just the start of "the return" for you all !!! Ashland...don't get too down. It's just game #1 - plenty of time to tune it in...
  21. Come on, now...  It isn't as if NCC lost to a "nobody". The Breds will be well served by playing a top notch opponent like this early. It was truly a defensive battle on both sides. It was a great early season game !!
  22. hmmm... Right now, it's hard to say. I agree with JoeFan in that the Cats will be more athletic. I also agree with you in that the team will improve as the year progresses. Hopefully, this will be a closer-knit team that learned the harsh lessons dealt last year. Among those: 1. Size and strength aren't 1/2 as important as speed and stamina. In other words, track work comes before weight work. 2. Getting "enough" playing time isn't a "right". 3. Pay attention to job #1 - keep the grades up. 4. Play the game for yourself and NOT for a parent or a coach. 5. Do YOUR job the best you can and help those younger/less experienced than you. 6. Don't take a coach's tirades personally... Understand, he wouldn't be that way if he didn't care. :bunny: _____________________________________ Hey... while I'm thinking about it... A big personal "thank you" goes to Scribe for compiling Prestonsburg's preview. Work has demanded so much of my time that I've not logged on BGP's as much as I'd liked over the past few months. :thumb:
  23. Like everywhere else in the state, it depends on how much $$$ local company sponsors are willing to donate. It depends very little on how "well regarded" any given locale is. In Pike Co. there's coal. When coal is UP, more $$ is spent on things like this. Whether it's up THIS much, I don't know. :bunny:
