  1. LOL... You guys crack me up. Prestonsburg had to completely re-sod the field due to a goof with summer maintainance of it. Seems a miscommunication between the school and the city resulted in a DOUBLE dose of fertilizer. This resulted in a completely burned (dead) playing field. It happened in July. VERY quickly, sod was brought in to re-establish a playing surface. Since the re-sod, the school is being VERY careful with the field because there hasn't been enough time for it to anchor. When the ground is wet, only the varsity is allowed to play on it. Last Friday, the field took a LOT of abuse (much more than one game's worth). You could see loosened chunks of the sod all over the place. I'm guessing they've worked hard this week trying to improve the damage. I don't know why the game wasn't moved to Pikeville. Maybe there was a soccer game, or something. Maybe Coach D. preferred using the time to practice. I have no idea. :bunny:
  2. Paintsville is talking "smack" ?!? This was the initial jab : Do you honestly think that kind of statement will go unanswered ?!? :sssh:
  3. Prestonsburg needs to: 1. On defense, keep Pugh contained in the pocket. 2. On offense, play a ball-control running game. (Prestonsburg's young linemen need to step forward this week). Paintsville needs to: 1. On defense, not give up big yardage to P-burg's outside running game. 2. Of offense, exploit the Blackcat tendency to overplay with lots of misdirection, counters, and reverses (and a gadget play or two...). Biggest obvious[/v] advantage to either team: Prestonsburg has a good FG unit, Paintville doesn't even kick PATs. It could matter... Prediction: (Pugh Paintsville 12 Prestonsburg 28 (Prestonsburg Paintsville 20 Prestonsburg 14 Overall: Prestonsburg by 10
  4. Take what I said in context, xyience... It was in replay to GoldenEagleFan's declaration: "I'm sure that if JC were 1A and in the same region as Paintsville, they might have went maybe a little further in the playoffs!!"...
  5. Thank you... :thumb: What you say is mostly true. If Matney continues the progress at Central he's begun and stays long term, Central could indeed reach, and possibly surpass, the level of success some former Paintsville teams have attained. :ylsuper:
  6.  Actually, if borderline 3A/4A Central were placed in the 1A playoffs the past couple years and didn't go further than what Paintsville did....something would've been TERRIBLY wrong with the Eagles. After all, Central wouldn't have been, on average, 5 times bigger than any other school... :sssh:
  7. Uhhhh.... If Central never got bigger than 1A, Central wouldn't enjoy the $$$ that allows the purchase of all the great facilities and coaches it currently has. Truth be told, though, there likely wouldn't be two high schools in Johnson County. The county and city kids would be rolled into a bigger Paintsville High (or a different Johnson Cental with blue/white/black school colors)...
  8. To the contrary... before Central's recent success and excepting Coach Musick's good teams, there were probably more out-in-Johnson Countians behind the Tigers as within-town Paintsvillians... I wouldn't have said anything, but this "Paintsville is jumping on Central's bandwagon" stuff needs to have a little historical perspective shed on it... I wish nothing but the best for Johnson Central, but comparatively speaking, the Eagles are the newcomers to GOOD Johnson Co. football. :bunny:
  9. No... you're just repeating the "commonly held perception". It is a FACT that in 2003 and 2004 2A had the BEST out-of-class record among the four classes in Kentucky. Does this necessarily mean 2A is better than 3A and 4A ? Of course not. However it MUST mean 2A was better than 1A. The only case this wouldn't be true is if 1A was better than 3A and/or 4A in those two seasons. Now, if you want to isolate your argument to "top 5" (or fewer), that's fine and is a matter of opinion. HOWEVER, don't make that particular case then generalize with a conclusion that "2-A has consistantly been the weakest class". That, my friend, is a generalization that you're applying to an ENTIRE classes. :sssh:
  10. Agreed... Good luck, Warriors, give it everything until the last horn sounds. :ylsuper:
  11. True... The only indicators for JC will be the games with Ashland, and a (somewhat) resurgent Mason Co.. And those two games don't come until the last two of the regular season. Central is gonna have a rough time getting ready for tourney time. Still, I hope they do well. It's been far too long that a big-school (3A or 4A) team from the Johnson, Floyd, Martin, and Pike Co. area was a real contender. You have to go back a number of year with the 3A Belfry teams, and one team a few years ago with 3A Sheldon Clark. :bunny:
  12. Jeeez, CFJ... this has gotten under your skin !! Believe me, I've been there myself. But listen to me. There is NO convincing someone -even with proof- when they wish to believe something different. Massey showed 2A was actually the comparatively STRONGEST class in the state in 2003 and 2004 (it was based on winning % of all games of a class vs. other classes).
  13. You can't have the second part without the first...or else it means nothing. YOU originally said it, not me...
  14. It's one thing to think something...quite another to put it in print.
  15. If someone can figure out a satisfactory criteria, it would be the first time in more than 4 years of being a member here. Let me also say...when actual past season numbers have shown class 2A with the BEST winning percentage vs. other classes, cries of "weak 2A" continued to persist. And are beginning yet again...LOL I've come to the conclusion it's something entirely different... 1A fans know 2A has BIGGER schools. Therefore, I've come to the conclusion that 1A has "Class Envy"... (read into that what you will... )
  16. You must think Ashland is an average 3A team and P-burg an average 2A team then, eh ?!? :sssh:
  17. Only one way to answer the question that's been raised... After the season, go to the Massey website and compare 1A thru 4A football in Kentucky. That's as good a snapshot as you can get. Much of what's being said in this thread is pure happenstance and irrelevance, a mighty clamor on the horizon signifying NOTHING.
  18. No....2A is NOT "historically" the weakest. Not by a longshot... In '03 and '04, I took the time to use the numbers from the Massey site to compare 1A and 2A. 2A came out the clear winner in each year... Why does someone feel the need to pick on 2A every blamed year ?!?!?!? :irked: It's getting OLD and I don't have the energy to do all that again...
  19. My nomination as a prediction post "classic"... :thumb:  :thumb:
  20. While I may not agree, I LIKE the style you Lincoln Countians are showing with your prognostications !!! Gotta love the "Sultan"...
  21. Hmmm... it's still too early to know if the difference is "fire", "talent", "lack of experience", or some combination of these. I suspect (hope?) it's mostly the third option. A team won't look aggressive when it's not sure what it's doing... Next week's gave vs. Paintsville will be a HUGE indicator of where this team is headed, IMO... :bunny:
  22. These two factoids are part of what gives me hope with the Blackcat defense. After all, the runners didn't tackle themselves in these situations... This is a very young Prestonsburg team, after all.
  23. They've done nothing BUT struggle, so far... This Prestonsburg team doesn't look to have the personel for a power ground game. If the Blackcats are gonna put together an offense, it'll have to built around a controlled passing game. The pass will have to set up the run, IMO. :bunny:
