  1. Wow... Heath made it a game. Much closer game than expected.
  2. A huge trophy that says, "Class 4A Kentucky Championship Runner-up"... (that ain't so bad, BTW)
  3. Boy, I feel DUMB... :creepy: I turned off the radio once it was 29-7. Just goes to show, anything can happen !! Congratulations on a VERY nice win, Sheldon Clark... For Belfry? Oftentimes a loss like this works to bring things into better focus. I think we're gonna have some pretty exciting football in the District Tourney this year... :thumb: Special Kudos to the Cardinal offensive line...I was just plain WRONG when I thought you guys weren't in good enough shape.
  4. Agreed. And...I always read what you say. You're a pretty smart cookie. :thumb:
  5. Sorry, I didn't know "it" was a sensitive subject... Wow, what a shame if I'm understanding you correctly. His was the strongest throwing arm I've ever seen at the high school level. :sssh:
  6. Please note the corrected link above....
  7. Also... You could be making a mistake to characterize Prestonsburg based on their performance at Cam last Friday. Some have said Prestonsburg "sold out" to stop the inside power game. This isn't really true. This was the same base defense P-burg used vs. the Pirates since the '03 playoffs. If Belfry runs 3 backs and 0 or 1 wideout, P-burg has always placed 9 or 10 in the box. Two things made it look bad Friday: 1. Belfry had a pretty good quick passing game that they actually used! There was no time to rush the QB. This was a real shocker that NO ONE from P-burg expected. The Blackcats would definately have dropped a safety or two, if so. 2. Belfry ran an excellent counter off the belly. The defensive front for P-burg was wayyy out of position. They still haven't learned to stay home on the play's weak side.
  8. A few reasons: 1. The officials choked both offenses with lots of offsides and procedure penalties. This may have been more harmful for SC due to their ground-based long drive oriented attack, despite the fact P-burg was called for more net penalty yardage. 2. The sloppy field conditions limited traction of the RB's. Once again, this was relatively more harmful to SC because Dials is more vital to SC's offense than any P-burg back is to their's. In hindsight, perhaps the Cards should have passed a little more. 3. Prestonsburg's defense matched up fairly well vs. SC's offense. The Cardinal offense uses much less misdirection in a more straight-forward power game and isn't as good at pulling blockers to the outside run. P-burg's defensive front is pretty strong, but being young and inexperienced, has looked much worse vs. teams that run a lot of traps and counters (Pikeville, Ashland, and Belfry). 4. The Sheldon Clark offensive line looked like they tired in the 2nd half. They're strong, but there might be a little excess body mass on them as a group. 5. With the tragedy that happened during the week before the game (look in the General Forum for info on that) the Cardinal team's focus might not have fully been there. That would certainly be understandable. There are more important things than football. :bunny:
  9. Which reminds me... What ever happened to Monin (QB) from that 2001 Bardstown team ??
  10. It took TWO State Titles for you to change your mind ?!? And I thought I was stubborn...(j/k)
  11. No hairs to split here. Honestly, I saw nothing wrong with what either team did at the end of the game. I was a little taken aback that the other poster DID have a problem with Prestonsburg continuing play and not "quitting". It's this simple...P-burg was behind very late in the game. Belfry didn't play its safeties deep. The long pass was there. Still behind...so...get in some work on the offside kick. That's all there was to it. :bunny:
  12. After the false hope of the 1st period goal line stand by P-burg, there was no doubt who was the better team Friday. This particular Belfry offense executed the wishbone better than I've seen in a long while. Belfry's defense was very solid. The Blackcat offensive line couldn't handle Belfry's front all night long. Yes, our offense missed some big plays. But hey, that's gonna happen - some nights plays are made, and some they're not. On Friday, Belfry made all the plays. We may play again in a few weeks. If so, we'll try to bring an offense with us next time... :thumb: (Now...I wouldn't be bringing it up, except for the preaching quoted above...) Your "sermonizing" would be more effective (not to mention less hypocritical) if your team's offense had been instructed to take a knee from 1st and goal at the 8 with 1:15 remaining... :creepy: Why is it OK for Belfry to tack onto a 32 point lead, yet "unsportsmanlike" for Prestonsburg to throw a deep pass and kick on-sides in the last minute ?!? :sssh:
  13. The problem with your figuring is...you're erroneously using the number of losses for the number of games played. Out of 7 games, Corbin has won 2. So... 2/7 is the percentage of games won. JASA is correct.
  14. :ylsuper: Yes, this is exactly the right "bigger picture" attitude to have in this kind of situation. There will be years in all programs when the chemistry of players/parents/coach/administration is poisonous for whatever reason. We had one of those last year in Prestonsburg, though Boyle Co. has the added problem of a legacy of recent multiple championships. The only real solution to that kind of problem is let the coach BE the coach (meaning, team decisions are HIS and his alone) and let the malcontents pass through (graduate). Hopefully, the core of Boyle Co. football will remain intact as it has here. For those who are upset, ask yourself ONE simple question: "Would this issue be such a 'powder keg' if the Rebels were 5-1?" (and be honest with the answer)... :sssh:
  15. I don't recall exactly (I'm not so young anymore..LOL). Didn't you advocated P-burg dropping safeties (allowing Belfry an inside advantage when double-tight) to "contain" the Belfry runners ? If so... I think this P-burg defense has the quickness to play in the box this year and not let big plays get away from them. There's a HUGE difference between allowing 8-10 yds/rush (with dropping safeties) and allowing 3-5 yds/rush (stacking box to match offense's ability to put men in the hole). One gives you NO chance to win, while the other gives you a good opportunity if your offense has some success.
  16. It's not a joke, it's a safety issue... Just imagine the center straightening up just in time to catch a front kick (with a cleated foot, no less) to the head...:creepy:
  17. I'd like to see it continue, also. P-burg/Belfry has always been a hard fought, and just plain FUN game to watch. :ylsuper:
  18. Excellent analysis !! :thumb: Prestonsburg's effort against Sheldon Clark a couple weeks ago was very pleasing to see. In that game, I had thought the game was the Cardinals to win/lose. It wasn't turnovers that cost SC the game (P-burg had 2, SC had 0), rather, it was the SC inability to score with fewer plays. Put another way, SC's rushing yds/attempt was low enough that it forced LONG drives to paydirt. The more plays required on a drive, the more chance penalties/def. stops will put a halt to it. I mention this because it holds true this Friday, also. Thus, if Belfry can hold the ball 12 or more plays in their scoring drives without fumbling, holding, etc., -enough- the Pirates will have earned the win. Prestonsburg does need to break some big plays (run or pass). P-burg's offense is built around putting its skill players in position to provide them, however. It's much more integral to the Blackcat offense (read: necessary) than the Pirate offense. (Surprisingly, though, Prestonsburg's offense was very conservative vs. SC week before last) Another facet of the game that could come into play is each team's FG units. Coach D. will try for three on 4th and long (inside the opponent's 25 or so). Does Coach Haywood kick FG's in those situations ? With all this said, I think the game will be determined by Prestonsburg ability, or inability, to move the football effectively on a veteran Belfry defense. If it can, Prestonsburg (other than having more scoring chances) will hold its own on field position keeping Belfry from playing on a short field with its patented ground attack. All I can say is...if Prestonsburg's improvement continues as it has through the season in the trenches, we'll definately see a much more entertaining game than last year. :thumb: Prediction: (Prestonsburg with 4 or fewer drives covering at least 30 yds., or resulting in points) Belfry 35 Prestonsburg 14 (Prestonsburg with 6 or more drives covering at least 30 yds., or resulting in points) Belfry 14 Prestonsburg 21 Overall - Belfry by 14
  19. LOLOL !!! You making a few assumptions here, CFJ ??
  20. This assumes, of course, that Prestonsburg had some kind of onus to approach Belfry to schedule games...LOL Prestonsburg is 2A this year. Prestonsburg remains 2A next year. Belfry is the school being re-assigned.
  21. LOL... The problem here (for you) is that the statement is TRUE. Whenever there's a long-standing series of games between two rivals, the all-time record IS of interest.
  22. It's a BAD time for SV to be catching Sheldon Clark. The Cardinals will be ready this week. IMO, the undefeated record works against the Wildcats, giving SC motivation. Sheldon Clark 40 Shelby Valley 6
  23. I'll post later...just thought we ought to get this started.
  24. My stars... "I'd rather JC go 1-9 and beat Paintsville than go 14-1 and win the state title and loose the apple bowl." This is EXACTLY what many Paintsville folks have said regarding Central's attitude about the Apple Bowl. Now you see what we meant. Seeing the problem is the first step in correcting it. :thumb: OTOH, Paintsville has always NEEDED the $$ generated from the game - even in all the years Paintsville had Central badly outclassed. I can see the "pointless" claim on the part of Central presently - the $$ isn't needed on the wrong side of the creek. As far as an answer to the last sentence in your post...the reason Paintsville won so many is because the Tigers got the better of it 20 out of the 33 games - for many different reasons. Not all of those years do I believe Paintsville was the better team, rather, I believe Central came in too tight because they wanted to win too badly. :bunny:
