I will be dating myself here, but the Mike Field's Friday column of prep tidbits from around the state was my favorite weekly read.

I listened to Gary Parrish and Matt Norelander's Eye on College Basketball and neither of them brought up that they thought the first 6 were all eligibility issues.

One would think 5 of the 6 would be Arizona, Kansas, Louisville, NC State, and USC, since those programs have indicated they are under NCAA investigation. If those are 5 of the 6, then it would seem likely the 6 would come from one of the following: Auburn, Oklahoma State, Creighton, LSU, or Oregon.

Coach Brannen had signed three guys: 6-5 SF Marcus Domask 5-11 PG DJ Roberston 6-8 PF Josh Early All three went elsewhere when Coach Brannen took the UC job (Domask to Southern Illinois, Robertson to Florida Atlantic, and Early to Tulsa). Plus obviously the Norse lost big man Chris Vogt to UC as well. I wasn't sure that Coach Horn would be able to salvage anything of this recruiting class (and who knows if he really has or not); however, he did manage to sign two players this week. 6-6 Wing Adham Eleeda (a juco transfer with 2 years of eligibility remaining out of Canada) 6-8 PF John Harge (from Colorado) Who knows how good either are, but I think we can be optimistic about both and being able to contribute right away. Eleeda obviously has couple of years of juco experience, shot 42% (had 16 games where he drained at least 4 three pointers) from behind the arc last season, and was recruited by Portland, Kent State, Bryant (Portland and Bryant are terrible programs, but Kent State had a good season). Harge looks like an athletic big man, who can shoot a little. He was offered by Tulsa and IUPUI. Again, who knows how good they are, but they look to have the potential to be pieces we can work with this year.

I bought a pair of Yeezy's last year for $250. I asked the guys at work if I was too old to wear them. They sheepishly nodded yes so I gave them to my oldest son.

I took Biscuits and Gravy, which slightly beat out Chicken and Dumplings. I would have taken Shrimp and Grits had it made the list.

Darin did not grow up Catholic. I do not know if his wife is or not. His nephew graduates from Lexington Christian this year if that gives you any insight. I would think Beechwood, but that is just a guess.

Don Owen tweeted that NKU is interviewing the following in Atlanta today: - An asst. coach from the ACC - An asst. coach from the PAC 12 - Pat Kelsey He also noted that Chris Shumate was not in Atlanta. In a cryptic move he also retweeted a previous tweet of his own that linked to a story from the WV Gazette about WV PG and current Florida asst. coach Darris Nichols. When I asked him about it he said he was sentimental. All of which is to say, it looks like they are narrowing down the pool of candidates.

West Virginia has Oscar (the big kid UK recruited) coming in. Not sure what else they have coming in. I know they lost another guard via transfer and had some other guys kicked off the team towards the end of the season. So they appear to have a roster in flux. Plus you add in playing for Huggins is probably a grind, then I can see why he might want to get out. But why Alabama? I think Petty is coming back, but I believe they lost two or three other kids, including Ingram, after Johnson was fired. There roster isn't exactly stable/known and their chances of competing at high level would seem to be sketchy at best. Alabama just seems like an odd choice for someone with one year of eligibility left.

I am sure Billy Hicks is an outstanding coach too and I don't want him either. Whoever we hire will be a bit of a gamble, but I would lean toward someone who has had some level of success at a D-1 program.

Frank Martin is out (took himself out of running) and looks like Craig Smith (Utah Valley State) might be too.

Soooooooo.... if UC wants Frank Martin, they can probably afford him and they can keep their dirty hands off my John Brannen.

Not to beat a dead horse but the Courier Journal reported in a March 28, 2018 article that Chris Mack’s buyout is $6MM (decreasing by $500,000 each year through the 2023-2024 season) and the data base lists his buyout at $12MM.

There was a link to a Charleston, SC newspaper article dated 4/21/17 (so just after his final four run) that reported him getting a raise to $3.3MM total package and a buyout of $4MM. This sounds reasonable. The buyout everyone reporting of $12.6MM appears to come from a USA date base. That same date base has some numbers that seem a little suspect unless you believe that the Steve Pikiell has a $12.7MM buyout. That same date base has Cal with a $25MM buyout. When UCLA was doing their coaching search it was reported they wouldn't pay Jamie Dixon's $8MM buyout at TCU (USA Today date base doesn't have a buyout listed) and a $25MM buyout of Cal was never mentioned. KSR (I realize not the most reliable source for any info) has repeated over and over that Cal doesn't have a buyout any longer. All of which I only point out to say that I am a bit skeptical of the amounts listed in the data base that everyone is citing. Note: Two "MM"s above represents millions, which is the standard in my world.

Did he commit before or after the NCAA gave notice of their inquiry? Is there anyway it would impact next season for the Cards (and this kid)?

You couldn't be more wrong. The negative chatter has disappeared. If anything, the in season discussion of the team is higher than it has ever been.

I feel like you are trying to take a shot at NKU fans on this board, but I have zero clue what point you are trying to make.
