The Trinity Shamrocks will head north to the Buckeye state on Friday to face the Anderson Raptors. Each team is highly ranked in both state and national pre-season rankings. Trinity is ranked #1 in most every Kentucky poll with Anderson ranked #2 through #5 in most every Ohio poll. The Rocks are the 3-time reigning Kentucky 6A champion, while the Raptors have finished the previous two years as the runner up in Ohio’s Division 2. For the Raptors, be on the lookout for these players: Antwoine Higgins, LB; Owen Scalf, QB; Tysin Weaver, WR; Jordan Davis, RB For the Shamrocks, here are a few of their impact players: Zane Johnson, QB; Sebastian Blue, DL; LA Evans, DB; Jason Hagan, WR An important note of interest for Fridays game…..Anderson Head Coach Evan Dreyer will sit this game out as he serves a one game suspension from the OHSAA for off season rules violations. The Anderson vs Princeton scrimmage scheduled for last night (Thursday) was canceled due to storms/lightning after several delays. The teams were sent off the field during warmups and the scrimmage never got underway. No idea regarding a possible reschedule.

Trinity seniors showed out all over the field in the Springfield scrimmage. I believe the Rocks have around 35 seniors on the roster. If Trinity can remain healthy………

Add the name Evan Myers Smith to the stable of A+ wide receivers at Trinity. Zane seemed to have good connection with him today.

Zane Johnson and this group of receivers are gonna be a problem for opponents.

Wow. I knew Male would drop off, but not off a cliff. And Highlands is gonna be a problem for most of the teams on their schedule.

From a couple of folks who were there, South Oldham really struggled to do much on either side of the ball. Overmatched physically.

I did not call Zane elite. I simply disagreed with you saying Zane is not YET one of Trinity’s best QBs. However a junior QB that completed 68% of his passes with 52 TDs vs 3 interceptions in 2025 vs the Trinity schedule on the way to a state championship……. some might consider that an elite season. Or maybe even grounds to be considered one of the best.

Scrutinizing a QB who is 3-3 for state championships, starting his freshman year, in such a way that you are not YET ready to consider him as one of Trinity’s best QB’s, is bizarre. So, if he ends up going 4-4, a feat I don’t think has EVER been accomplished by a high school QB in Kentucky, I assume you would not consider him Trinity’s best QB ever, but would allow him to be on your list as one of the best. To each his own.

QB position is a different animal.

Zane has 3 state championships as a starter, beginning as a frosh starter, and yet he still has not proven himself to you as one of the best Trinity QBs??? Come on man.

QB at Hazard and 9 months later QB vs Elder at The Pit. That will be quite interesting.

Gametime has been changed to noon to allow Springfield more travel time from Ohio.

Their loss to Middletown in the Ohio State Round of 16 was by a score of 14 - 0.

Springfield always has a fast and physical defense. In 2025 they allowed only 38 total points in 7 league games. And their league has good football teams - Centerville, Wayne, Fairmont, Springboro, etc.

Last season they lost to Middletown in the Ohio state playoffs round of 16. Not sure of their prospects for 2026.

Correct. And whichever officials association oversees your region must agree as they are responsible for assigning officials to a “shot clock game” who have experience with it. In 2027-28, all officials will be required to be up to speed.

Saturday, August 8, Noon, at Trinity’s Marshall Stadium, Free admission. This is always a valuable scrimmage as each team typically plays late into the post season in the large school division of Kentucky and Ohio.

Other than the commercials, what the viewer sees at home on a Trinity/WDRB broadcast is the same content fans see inside Marshall Stadium on the massive Trinity video board. WDRB then takes the Trinity radio call of the game and overlays it onto the video content. A wonderful partnership between Trinity and WDRB.

The board set up is very similar to what Trinity installed a few years ago. The lower portion is a separate, and new, scoreboard “strip”. This allows the time clock, score, down and distance, etc to be displayed separate and apart from the video board. This is a benefit for a couple of reasons. 1. For F and JV games, if so desired, the scoreboard strip can operate for the game even if the video board is not used. 2. When the video board is being used, valuable screen space is not committed for “scoreboard” purposes. This way the video board can use the entire space for graphics, videos, live action, replays, etc while the scoreboard functions operate separately on the “strip”.

A tale as old as time. Even in the very strongest programs. Playing time, jobs, girlfriends, other sports, other interests, etc.
