This is how you win a 4A state championship. Credit to Rio as well on 8/9 passing and a perfect deep ball on the flea flicker. Kremer ran the ball really well again averaging over 5YPC & had some nice returns on kickoff.

I agree, I wouldn’t have punted in that situation. Netted about 15 yards.

Scott Co really needs to figure out their punting if they want to go far this year.

I hope you’re right! Depends on which offense shows up. The one that owns the line of scrimmage and time of possession or the one that’s asked to throw 35+ times.

If you take away the last few years, Cooper will be going back to what they’ve always been.. probably worse. I’ve seen both the freshman & JV teams this year and it’s going to be tough sledding to say the least. Sullivan leaving for St Henry certainly doesn’t help. Wonder if we’re nearing the end of the Borchers era? He has to see the writing on the wall.

Someone said that to me this week. I think there’s no chance. Ryle has lost some tough games this year but this will be the second week in a row where they get a favorable matchup and finally are getting healthy. They’re a gritty, chip on their shoulder, dangerous team the remainder of the season IMO.

Elder is very good. Hats off to them, excited to see how their year turns out. As for the Birds, I come away disappointed. Did I expect a win? Probably not. But, I left The Pit tonight feeling dissatisfied with the play calling (again) as we ran the ball effectively and just stopped cold turkey to throw. When we did throw, there were some impressive catches tonight I must give the Bird WR corps some credit! But this D is too good to drop back & think you’ll pick them apart. Elder won’t often let you feel good about much after playing them though so I guess I’m in the same boat as most fans & teams this year they’ve played. Luckily, a feel good game next week vs Mason Co will set them on the right track for Scott Co the following.

I watched the Elder QB’s highlight tape, very impressive. Could someone give me a quick overview of their offense? Run/pass %? From the video, it seems he likes to run (a lot). To Highlands credit, they shut Harney down on the ground last week and have good athleticism up front. Interested to see their scheme to bottle up the Elder QB - he’s quick!

In between the 20’s, I’d give an A-. Put Rio in positions to be successful. Only things I felt were missing were the screen game (usually a Highlands staple in this offense) and some zone/outside runs (lots of stuffed runs up the gut). In the Redzone, I’d give a C-. Were they able to finish some drives, yes. But you can’t settle for FG’s and turnover on downs (twice) inside the 10. Cov Cath learned after the first drive to pack the box on Lorenzen and Highlands never adjusted from the QB Power. Will just need some variety in the redzone going forward but overall an improvement from recent games IMO.

You skipped a year! Last years team was the best of the 3 we’re referring to IMO. I’ll even take it one step further - last years freshman football team went undefeated and so did their basketball team (obviously several kids played both sports). That’s seriously impressive. What a group of classes regardless!

First off, what a game & congrats to the Bluebirds. Hats off to CovCath on the almost comeback - they’ll be a tough team remainder of the season. With that being said, am I crazy to think Highlands should’ve won this by 20+? They dominated special teams, contained CCH for the most part and only gave up a couple big plays which are easily correctable, and their redzone offense was horrendous. Have to find another play call than running a QB slam up the gut when they’re packing the box. Can’t wait to see how they match up with Elder next week!

The winner of the turnover battle will be victorious. I think the Colonels are better coached but if Highlands play-calling this week leads to giving the best players the ball, I’ll take the Birds. Give me Highlands 28-20!

Is it that he can’t complete a pass or that he’s asked to only throw slot fade & rollout sideline balls? The games to figure out the offense are over.. You’re in the gauntlet now so better figure it out quick

Three quick observations: Does anyone remember the last time Lorenzen touched the ball? If you can’t remember, that’s not using your weapons very wisely.. I thought the Highlands RB was down on the fumble after the nice run (on the online stream) Took the wind out of the sails. Some really, really, really bad play calling the last two drives for Highlands to end the game. Coaching continues to be a sticking point with this group and is hard to argue against it after Boyle Co’s smart trick play to seal the game. Credit to BC.. They came out and won the line of scrimmage most of the night and it paid off. However, IMO this is a bad loss in a very winnable game for Highlands.

If this goes as the poll says it will, lots of people are going to get to see the hype around several of the sophomore's and freshman in this program. I was able to attend last weeks JV game against Cooper - shew, it was a brutal beating - and Bryce Anderson seems to be the real deal. Jimi Cox, Colt Kremer, Kaden Sturdevant also stood out and I believe are pushing for Varsity snaps already. Birds fans will be happy that there’s a stable of athletes waiting for some action for this year & more to come.

Seems as though Ryle has hit the injury bug with some seniors early in the season.. However, they’re just too talented across the board. Ryle by 3 or 4 TD’s.
