4 really good teams in 2A this season. Beechwood, OC, Mayfield and LCA. Any of the 4 could win the 2A state championship this season. Based on what they have returning I would go Beechwood, OC, Mayfield and LCA but they are all going to be really good.

Most likely to repeat is Pikeville and Boyle. I will be absolutely shocked if both those teams don’t repeat. Most likely to not repeat is Mayfield. They are still going to be very good but they lost a lot and there are several other 2A teams who have a lot coming back.

Couldn’t agree more. The 10th is going to be really weak this year. It will be GRC and everybody else.

I agree the Johnson kid is definitely one of the top receivers in the state. Unfortunately college coaches check boxes and I assume maybe he doesn’t check the speed box. It will be their loss because I think he is definitely a power 5 kid. All the other NKY kids you mentioned are also very deserving of accolades but don’t sleep on the other Beechwood receiver James Cusick. 6’0” 175 lbs, 37 inch vertical, super athletic, catches anything that is close to him and ran a laser timer 4.57 40 at the Naval Academy camp this summer. Somebody is going to get an early Christmas program when they get this kid. If any college coaches see this post you better go as quick as you can and offer this kid.

You are out of your mind if you think that where a kid goes to school doesn’t have a lot to do with them being recruited. As the previous poster said if you have lots of coaches in your school regularly then there is a much larger chance that they will be discovered. Sorry but the last time I checked there wasn’t a lot of college coaches walking the halls at Boone County.

If true then I think that is a terrible decision by the Starks family. The kid was playing with one of the top juniors in the country if he wanted eyeballs on him then there would be no better place than Newport for the next few years. Also could have been a great opportunity to win a state championship. If I am not mistaken I think his older brother made a bad decision also and I don’t know where he is now.

Highlands had a kid 12-15 years ago who was Mr. Basketball and played at LSU. I cannot remember his name. And Dante Allen played in the 10th region. I think when it is all said and done you will be able to add 2 current players too your list Kinney and EJ Walker.

The one thing that will not change is Newport will be the heavy heavy favorite to win the 9th.

I vote for Highlands to win the mythical 7 v 7 high school national championship.

Scott County is definitely the sleeper. Not a lot of people are talking about them in the 5A conversation me included. But when you take a good look at that roster they are loaded.

He had a one handed catch yesterday that was unbelievable. He just reached his hand up a snatched it with one hand like it was a baseball. I know he can really throw the ball but ultimately his best position may be tight end.

5A is definitely up in the air this season. All 4 teams who made the semis last season are going to be really good. I like the chances that a NKY team wins the championship since 2 of those 4 teams are from NKY. I really think this could be Cooper's year they are absolutely loaded with talent with one of the best defensive players in the state and maybe the top QB in the state. Highlands is going to be really good but will still be relatively young. I think Highlands will be the 5A favorites in 2025.

Great way to get the community involved and invested. Looks like the Bearcats have made a great coaching decision. I hope they have a great season.

My bad, I guess I should have looked at their schedule. I still think Boyle is the best team in the state but FD is also loaded. That is going to be a great game.

Boyle is absolutely loaded. They are probably the best team in the state this year. I wish they played Trinity or Frederick Douglass because those are 2 schools who could maybe beat them. I also think Tilghman is going to be very good this year so they could possibly give them a run in 4A.

I don’t disagree with the assessment on Ryle’s talent this season but the truth is they have had lots of talent over the last few years. Every year I read the same thing that this is going to be their year but every year they seem to fall short. Who knows maybe this is their year and I hope it is. Nothing would make me happier than to see lots of NKY teams in Lexington in December. Go Raiders!

You make a good point. I have zero interest in 7 v 7 so I guess I will leave your thread. Also, I didn’t know there was a 7 v 7 season. Hope you win that 7 v 7 championship. I will wait till real football starts.

7 on 7 is a scripted glorified scrimmage. It is used to provide information to the coaches on what they are doing well, what they need to fix and what they need to improve. It also provides information regarding personnel and who can help and who needs more development. Outside of that it provides absolutely nothing. Anyone who makes a presumption that because they scored 4 touchdowns compared to 2 from their opponent that they won and are a better team is completely kidding themselves. If you want to “win’ the 7 on 7 league then join the 7 on 7 league. Things are a lot different when you put the pads on.

And right after the Beechwood/Pulaski game Corbin plays Pikeville. Those are going to be 2 good football games for the price of one.

Has anyone heard if 3/4 star recruit Donovan Carney from Pittsburgh enrolled at Newport? I heard from a reliable source that he is playing with Kinney and Turner over the summer and that he will be at Newport next season. Can anyone confirm?

My bad, I could have sworn he was a junior last year. Yeah with him and Rondon both gone it’s going to be even tougher to challenge Newport. But the Johnson kid is the real deal. I have seen him play 3 times and he is legit.

When did Pouncy leave? First I have heard that he is not there. Rondon will be a big loss but Cooper should still be very very good this year. But let’s be honest everyone in the 9th is playing for 2nd. Newport is head and shoulders above everyone else in the 9th.

Going down to the Cumberland Falls Bowl in Corbin. Should be 3 of the top 15-20 teams in the state and Pulaski should also be really good. It will be interesting to see how Beechwood’s high powered offense matches up against a really good big school like Pulaski. I think Pulaski has 2 kids who have been offered by UK and they have a lot of starters back from last season so they should be pretty good. Corbin is rebuilding a little but still have a lot of talent and Pikeville should be as good as they ever have been with what they have coming back. Should be 2 really good football games.
