  1. Sczabo won a title in 2019 with David Johnson and a bunch of other talent. The score in the title game in 2019 was 50-40. Also won title in 2012 with 2 D1 guys on the roster, but scored 71 points in the title game. Maybe his strategy changed over time to be more ball control.
  2. My comment also had to do with style of play. More possessions = more of a chance to create margin of victory. Less possessions, more chance of a close game.
  3. Perhaps Hoopstars is just baffled as to why teams with elite athletes want to minimize possessions by playing ball control basketball, instead of pushing the tempo to create more possessions for their elite athletes to out-elite athlete their opposition.
  4. Krohman: nice feel for the game, nice ballhandler, the stats say he is an efficient scorer and shooter. I would say he is gonna fall into the Dallas Roberts category of not tall enough or explosive enough athletically to be a D1. Just to add some perspective, I saw Evan Ipsaro (Cov Cath) in an AAU game in Fort Wayne last spring, his Indiana Elite team was playing Indy Heat Gym Rats who were loaded with D1 talent. Ipsaro gets in the lane at will in high school games, kills teams at the rim and with 15ft pull-ups (FOR EXAMPLE: 13-18 from 2 vs DeSales, didn’t attempt a 3). In that AAU game he didn’t get in the paint once, and the only shot I saw was a step back three (which didn’t fall). Just for clarification, I LOVE Evan’s game and have been watching him torch opponents since 3rd grade, my kid has been on the receiving end of butt-whoopings doled out by him many times. The point as it relates to Krohman is that until you see that speed and size in person, it’s tough to appreciate, and it can limit evens the most dominant high school players. If Evan Ipsaro was 6’5 with his same speed/game he would have his pick of power 5 schools. Krohman has nowhere near the tools as Evan, even tho he is a really nice player. I think NAIA D1, NCAA D2 is probably the ceiling for him unless he grows 3” and transforms athletically.
  5. For those of us who are 1980’s NBA fans, Dynes reminds me of this guy, Chuck Nevitt who was always on a roster, but hardly ever played. 7’4” guys always had a spot on an NBA roster. As for his potential: he has to put on a ton of muscle, add athleticism & mobility, and that is on him and how much he loves the game and is willing to put in the work. His size got him a free ride but now it’s on him. From what I have heard he is an extremely likable kid.
  6. Israel is totally under control, doesn’t force a thing, picks his spots really well, feels like he could take over at any time if he wanted to. IMHO he is one of the most underrated guards in the state. Walker has a man body, nice finisher around the basket, lots of potential, same with Israel could probably do more if asked.
  7. This is one I had penciled in preseason as a loss for the Colts. Once DeSales had to go to OT vs Doss, felt even more strongly they would lose, because Butler’s tough, athletic, lightning fast tiny guards are better than Doss’s tough, athletic lightning fast tiny guards. Once Colt beat Western, this became a classic “letdown game” on top of the previous things I had stated.
  8. One thing to consider, Moore played for a “triple A” AAU team on the Under Armor circuit last summer. He was the best player on the team, and was dominant on that circuit, even against the more elite UAA teams. He has more in his bag than he has been given respect for, having played for his county school instead of bolting to LaLumire or another prep school when his resume was clearly good enough to do so, which would have enhanced his profile nationally. I would assume his college career ends up as good or better than Jaspers.
  9. Having seen several of Jasper high school games, nothing he has done on the court deserves this ranking. It’s all AAU performance and groupthink. Once the dominoes start to fall with offers everyone else fears missing out. His team puts the stats in every 5-6 games and rumors are the misses aren’t counted at the same rate as the makes. He might have more long term potential than Teegan, but Moore is the more impactful HS player and it isn’t close.
  10. Odd that a kid who played 15u AAU in 2015-2016 is listed as a Junior on this DCA roster. Even if he is an old old junior (august birthday), he would’ve been 11 years old playing 15u AAU in 2015, which doesn't HAPPEN… I’m gonna just say, it’s odd. Really odd..
  11. Rumor is the flu has been going through the OC team….could explain the lethargic effort tonight.
  12. Height is kind of a big deal in basketball. I can name 50 kids that would’ve been really really good/D1 if they were 6’4” but unfortunately they were 5’10” and they ended up small college or nowhere. (I could name 10 this year but I don’t wanna hurt feelings!) That’s why the kids are all exaggerating their height by 1-2”.
  13. Male will struggle to go .500 this year. Losing Johnson and Glenn, they have limited size/athleticism. Look for their journey out of the polls to begin tonight with a loss to DeSales.
  14. Based on Trinity’s showing at Collins Tourney this summer, they have to be the team to beat!
  15. A few edits: House left Ballard and is at Seneca. Tucker is no longer at Seneca, he is playing club ball in England. Doerr left Manual for Evangel. Stinebruner left CAL for Oldham Co. Johnson left Eastern for Fern Creek. There might be one or two others I missed but these are the ones I know off the top..
