Last year Male edged Ballard 82-80 in the 7th Region Tournament Final. Looks to be a changing of the guard in the 7th this year as Trinity picked up two new players to complement their returning players. Male still will be formidable while Ballard was hit hard with graduations and the transfer of Gabe Sisk out of state. Should be another fun year as the 7th will once again be a tough region.

1. Trinity

Trinity was 17-16 last year but add in two key players with Jeffersontown transfer Drae Vasser and add Jayden Johnson who played for Male as an 8th grader last year. They bring back Cam McClain and CJ Walls. Trinity should be one of the top 5 teams in the state.

Top returning players: Cam McClain, 17.2 ppg, Drae Vasser, 13.6 ppg, Jayden Johnson 6.5 ppg, and CJ Walls 11.5 ppg.

2. Male

Male went 28-6 last year and was 7th Region Champions. Male returns 3 of the top players in the 7th region and will be a contender for the 7th Region championship this year. They could have been the favorites had Jayden Johnson stayed at Male and not chose Trinity for high school.

Top returning players: Jack Edelen 13.2 ppg, Demetrius White 9.2 ppg, and Cole Edelen 6.4 ppg.

3. Ballard

Ballard went 28-7 last year finishing as 7th Region runner up. Ballard was hit hard by graduation and top player Gabe Sisk transferred to Prolific Prep in California. Ballard is a perennial power and has young talent that will now have to step up.

Top returning players: Miles Franklin 5.6 ppg, Quel Ron House 5.2 ppg, and Tim Fuller 4.3 ppg.

4. Manual

Manual went 21-7 last year and lost to St. X by 1 point in the 7th Region Tournament. Manual returns 3 of their top players and will be a contender in the region. Damone King who is rated one of the top players in the country will lead the Crimsons.

Top players returning: Damone King 15.1 ppg, Christian Doeer 12.6 ppg, and Brady Hurley 7.6 ppg.

5. Saint Xavier 

St. X went 21-11 last year and lost a close game to Ballard in the semifinals of the 7th Region Tournament. St. X graduated top guard Mekhi Smith and will turn to sharpshooter Nelson Williams to lead the team. Overall, the team will be young but talented with multiple sophomores and freshman contributing.

Top returning players: Nelson Williams 10.8 ppg, Javin Jones 7.4 ppg, and Chance Dillingham 4.7 ppg.

6. Eastern 

Eastern went 14-12 last year and lost to Christian Academy - Louisville in the 28th District Tournament. Eastern returns one of the best big man in the region with Sosthene Kamba plus two other key players.

Top players returning: Jaden Johnson 10.3 ppg, Isaiah Cook 7.1 ppg, and Sosthene Kamba 6.2 ppg.

7. Christian Academy - Louisville

CAL went 20-12 last year and lost to Male in the 7th Region Tournament. CAL took a big hit when the Washington brothers moved to Ohio. CAL returns two of their other top players.

Top returning players: Kirk Lemons 14.5 ppg, Cole Hodge 6.6 ppg, and Abram Stinebruner 2.7 ppg.

8. Seneca

Seneca went 15-18 last year and lost to Male in the 7th Region Tournament. Seneca returns 3 of their top players but graduated top player Delshawn Simms.

Top players returning: Louie Tucker 14.7 ppg, Joshua Lewis 12.3 ppg, and Elijah Price 7.6 ppg.

9. Waggener

Waggener went 11-15 last year and lost to Seneca in the 27th District Tournament. Waggener returns one key player and was hit hard by graduation.

Top returning players: Josiah Corley 11.9 ppg, Elijah Murphy 3.0 ppg, and Anthony Corley 3.0 ppg.

10. Central 

Central went 8-23 last year and lost to Seneca in the 7th Region Tournament. Central graduated their top 3 players but returns two key players.

Top returning players: Devin Henderson 6.6 ppg, Jenuel Aquino 9.1 ppg, and Alberto Franco 5.2 ppg.

11. Kentucky Country Day

KCD went 15-13 last year and lost to Ballard in the 28th District Tournament. They return one of the top players in the region with Will Crocket.

Top returning player: Will Crocket 20.7 ppg.

12. Atherton

Atherton went 10-15 last year and lost to Trinity in the 27th District Tournament. Atherton returns their top player.

Top returning player: Braylin Taylor 12.0 ppg.

13. Collegiate

Collegiate went 11-17 last year and lost to Saint Xavier in the 26th District Tournament.

Top returning player: Reece Holbrook 8.0 ppg.

14. Shawnee

Shawnee went 13-14 last year and lost to Central in the 25th District Tournament.

Top returning player: Corey Garner 2.0 ppg.

15. Brown

Brown was 9-19 last year and lost to Male in the 26th District Tournament.

Top returning player: Justin Bibb 19.3 ppg.

16. Portland Christian

Portland Christian went 13-16 last year and lost to Manual in the 25th District Tournament.

Top returning player: Caden Tucker 15.0 ppg.

17. Highlands Latin

Highlands Latin went 12-16 last year and lost to Atherton in the 27th District Tournament.

Top returning player: Jed Hamilton 9.7 ppg.

18. Francis Parker

Francis Parker went 9-16 last year and lost to Portland Christian in the 25th District Tournament.

Top returning player: Jack Christensen 6.3 ppg.

I’m taking Manual over Ballard and Male in the rankings and maybe even Trinity barely. They brought back almost everyone and King has gotten taller and bigger. Male not having Dez or Kaleb was bad enough then add in Jayden leaving too. Ballard is still to be scene with a new coach, heavy departure of seniors and no Gabe. Trinity has the talent but will have wait to see how everyone fits.

Manual will definitely be a contender for sure. Ballard is one of those programs that reloads but I could see them taking a step back this year.

Based on Trinity’s showing at Collins Tourney this summer, they have to be the team to beat!

I know it was just scrimmage, but Manual didn't show a whole lot last Saturday against Bracken County.

Only thing about Ballard is it’s a first year coach. That maybe a huge factor.

All those guys stay and everyone stays in the 6th it be hard not to go to Louisville daily to catch a game. 

I love seeing all the national prep schools coming and recruiting kids from Louisville with all the talent and athletes we’ve known for years that’s been there. Just would love to see these guys stay home and give us legendary home battles we could talk about seeing for a life time.

247 recruiting service has King #20 combo guard in his class so I think would qualify him as one of top players in the nation but I guess that depends on what your cutoff is.
