  1. An absolute all-timer for me. There are some books that when you read them, you have some sort of epiphany to the effect of "Wow! Oh so THAT'S what books can be like." Discovering Douglas Adams as a teenager was one of those books.
  2. WHY YOU GOTTA BRING UP OLD STUFF, RANDY? I'll fight a kid if I have to.
  3. Cardinals couldn't put Upstate away for most of the game, thanks to some really solid shooting by the Spartans. Trailing 43-40 with 14 minutes left in the game, Louisville clamped down on defense and started hitting shots. Closed the game out by a score of 36-7 over those final 14 minutes. Jordan Nwora again led the Louisville scorers with 28 points and 9 rebounds. Dwayne Sutton had 9 points and 15 rebounds. Those 15 rebounds honestly felt like 30; he owned the glass last night. Ryan McMahon went 5-8 from behind the arc for his 15 points. Junior Malik Williams as well as freshman/Trinity alumnus David Johnson both made their season debuts for the Cardinals, coming back from injuries sustained during the offseason. Johnson went 2-2 in his first three minutes of college basketball, including an outstanding alley-oop.
  4. My worry is that it looks that way because he doesn't either. It was a safe hire of an alumnus when they made it and I worry they went for the safe choice and not the best one.
  5. The accents are the toughest part of it for me (apart from you know, the endless cruelty and violence). I find most Northeastern accents really grating. That said, I'd love to go back and rewatch this show. I loved it the first time around.
  6. Obi Toppin is the real deal and I like what I'm seeing from a few other guys so far. Tough tests ahead for the Flyers with the Maui Classic looming on Monday. They start against Georgia with a game against either Michigan State or Virginia Tech in the next round. Long way to go to get to an A-10 title contender.
  7. Pecan Pie. Grandma's recipe. Mom seems to have perfected it.
  8. That third quarter was impressive. Was good to see after six successive pretty unimpressive quarters. Have to watch again to figure out what happened, but they looked to have made some sort of adjustment to try and get Cunningham some time for pass plays to develop. Once he had that time, NC State was completely unable to cover Louisville’s receivers.
  9. Taglio. Locations in OTR and Columbia-Tusculum in Cincinnati. Detroit-style deep dish. It's the best I've had in Cincinnati so far.
  10. Yeah the key to it is getting the right price on internet. Spectrum was charging me $140 for all the sports channels I needed plus internet. Ive now got combined internet and YouTubeTV for about $98 all told.
  11. I just went YouTubeTV. Game changer for me. Has everything I need.
  12. Finally got a chance to watch some of the replay this morning. Didn't get to watch live since I was in a car on my way to North Carolina. Some things that were breaking right for Louisville recently didn't break right. One play goes the other way in either the BC or Wake games and Louisville has another loss. Louisville was a lot closer 3-5 than a lot of us would have liked to admit before this game. The difference in where Louisville is right now and where Miami is right now was fairly apparent and the Cardinals did themselves no favors. The sequence in which Louisville scored to bring it within 14 points in the third quarter, then forced a Miami three-and-out only for Tutu to fumble the punt, which Miami turned into another touchdown three plays later... that was pretty indicative of how the day went. Still lots of good things happening this year and I expect the Cards to beat one or both of NC State and Syracuse in the next two weeks and be bowl eligible before the season finale in Lexington.
  13. I know exactly how I feel about it... I hate it. November is supposed to be fun, not the depressing slog of January and February where you're living and dying with every game. They're taking the fun out of my November to try and sell TV subscriptions.
  14. Cards open with a road conference win. Louisville had it out to 72-40 at one point when Mack decided to put it in cruise control (like he does). Jordan Nwora led the Cards with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Stephen Enoch had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Samuel Williamson is the real deal and will only get better as this season goes on. Really liked what I saw out of him at times. Perry and Kimble combined for 9 points and 7 assists. The point guard spot was the primary question mark going into this season and that question still has to be answered. David Johnson and Malik Williams are both still out with injuries. In the end, it's Nov. 6 and UofL is already 1-0 in the ACC. I'll take it.
  15. CAN YOU COUNT, SUCKAS? I genuinely think about how funny the whole concept of "The Baseball Furies" is at least a few times a year.
  16. I saw it at the Kentucky Center in Louisville a few years ago. It's definitely an amazing show. Hoping to see it again when it comes through Cincinnati... I think in January?
  17. I feel like this idea of a coach or athletic department staffer that facilitates these things is where universities are going to have to clamp down. If universities are facilitating these things, that's where Title IX could come into play. Agents seem like an inevitability. Certain players will just need someone to handle the calls, if nothing else.
  18. The NCAA and its members have had any number of opportunities over the last few decades to get big money out of college sports. At every opportunity, they have declined. This is all part of the natural progression.
  19. Really glad the game didn’t turn on an ump’s interpretation of a really odd rule about the base paths. Strasburg was amazing tonight. Really looking forward to tomorrow.
  20. I love the idea the spokesman put forth about doing this in a way that "wouldn't create competitive imbalance". Lol. When was the last time we had a first-time national champion in D-1 football? Florida in 1996?
  21. I can't believe this happened this fast. I mean, university presidents and athletic directors on the whole are overwhelmingly craven, but still.
  22. Getting soaked is about the only sure bet for tomorrow. I have tickets to the Louisville City FC playoff game after this one's over too. Going to be a long, wet day and night.
