  1. "Best of Enemies" - Great one about the series of debates between William F. Buckely and Gore Vidal during ABC News' TV coverage of the Democratic and Republican conventions of 1968.
  2. Didn't see the late game, but I watched that poor dude from Haiti have his Wondolowski moment against Peru. Oh man he's going to remember that time he was unmarked on a free kick in stoppage time and blasted a wide open header six yards wide of goal. Haiti's best shot at a point and they missed it. Probably 0-fer the rest of the way. Lowest rated team in the tournament.
  3. Costa Rica and Paraguay play to an uninspired 0-0 draw. That was very helpful. Just win, baby.
  4. I don't disagree and Bradley's teammates didn't make it easy on him for much of the game. The players really don't know when to track back to open passing lanes or create space when the midfield gets clogged as Colombia did in the second half when they just sat on that 2-0 lead. When Pulisic came in late on he was the only one trying (or able) to make those big runs toward the goal area and by that point, Bradley was broken and just couldn't even look for them. The early goal for Colombia broke the game plan and Klinsmann and his team had no answer.
  5. Luckily for the Yanks, neither Costa Rica nor Venezuela have the ability to play like Colombia.
  6. Can't argue that. The manner is just frustrating. Bradley's carelessness gave away that penalty which is not something we should ever see from him. And I have no idea what Cameron was doing on that first goal. Completely lost. He's played well apart from that I think. Just very disappointing to have gone down 2-0 in this manner.
  7. Agreed. Can't fault that call. Irritating first half in which the US really didn't play poorly enough on the whole to deserve a two goal deficit.
  8. Michael Bradley in a friendly: best US player. Michael Bradley in a big tournament: can't complete a pass. His careless giveaway generated the attack that led to that penalty. He's been awful today.
  9. People don't give enough due to matchups in basketball and how they affect the game. That's across all levels. Even though Golden State is one of the best teams I've seen assembled of parts that aren't as good as the whole, the presence of capable big men and the size and speed of Durant made OKC a matchup nightmare for the smaller Warriors and it showed. The Warriors don't face that same matchup problem with Cavs. Cleveland is going to have to come up with something different and they're going to have to do it quickly because the individual matchup of styles and personnel favors the Warriors, just as it did last year.
  10. This is the truth of the world. I'm of the opinion that we've always believed we knew best, we just never had an outlet for it before.
  11. I feel like the rematch aspect of it really made it easy to generate interest right from the get-go.
  12. :lol2: Makes me think of this great scene from "Heaven Help Us", one of those great movies that manages to bottle that feeling of being in an all-boys Catholic school.
  13. Also started this one earlier this week:
  14. Just finished reading Tolkien's "The Simarillion" for the third time. After struggling to get through it the first time, I'm really appreciating it more for succeeding at precisely what it aims to do, which is be an ancient chronicle for a race that never existed. As good as LOTR and The Hobbit are, The Silmarillion is the real showpiece for just how brilliant and complete a world-creator Tolkien was. Started Bernard Malamud's "The Natural" last night. Saw the movie years ago. Never read the book before.
  15. He's an unreal basketball player with physical tools that allow his skill set to be dominant. One of the greatest I'll see in my lifetime. But yeah, after The Decision and that counting thing about all the rings they were going to win when he was announced in Miami, we were DEFINITELY going to clown him.
  16. Delly really only took one outstanding shot all night. Unfortunately it was directed at Andre Igoudala's dangly bits and not at the rim.
  17. It's probably old-fashioned that only my sworn oath to the Commonwealth of Kentucky keeps me from challenging @Randy Parker to a duel of pistols at dawn.
  18. I think I'm the only guy under 35 that has newspaper delivery. I regularly attend Latin Mass. I prefer real books to E-books and almost never use the e-reader feature on my tablet computer. I think if you asked my girlfriend or friends, I think they'd probably tell you the answer to this question is "a whole lot of stuff."
  19. Love sitting out the fourth quarter of a couple of those games against Toronto wasn't a good sign.
  20. It's real. I've seen on Twitter -- more than once -- references to the Cavs/Warriors series as Team Dark Skin vs. Team Light Skin.
  21. The last episode was the first thing I've liked from her all season. There was actual character growth and a feeling it's building toward something important. The rest had seemingly been training with no discernable end in sight; it was a story with no conflict, which is hardly a story at all. Now I'm particularly interested in her going forward and how this gets settled.
  22. I've been enjoying the goings on at King's Landing and the prep for Riverrun (anytime Littlefinger shows up things are about to go down). To be honest, I've grown impatient with a lot of the other storylines. At least Arya is out of that temple now. I'd grown weary of her training montage.
  23. I've never noticed the traffic in Cincinnati being particularly better or worse than any other big city with lousy public transit, but crossing the Brent Spence Bridge is definitely a horror I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
  24. 2015: USL 7 wins NASL 1 win 2016: USL 2 wins NASL 6 wins Rumors of the demise of our D2 league may have been exaggerated. The only really interesting result is that USL's Oklahoma City Energy took down the newest Division 2 team, a crosstown rival known as Rayo OKC of NASL 2-1. The game apparently got EXTREMELY chippy toward the end and Rayo finished the match with 9 players. A few interesting matchups in the next round, but I don't know how into it I'll be with not only Louisville but both the rivals in Saint Louis and Cincinnati eliminated as well.
