  1. Congrats to the champs Elkhorn! They picked up a down to the wire win over Bowling Green 28-26. Both squads are looking really good for the next four years!
  2. Congrats to the champs from Union! Heck of a run for that group. Union's 7th grade team has not lost a game in over 5 years.... That's quite an accomplishments as a staff.
  3. Red Devils did a great job with all of those studs in Lexington. That Burton kid is a handful!
  4. Just throwing out some sizes for those who need them: Bridger Knee #59 Jr. 6-1 235 (DE) Jeremiah Lightfoot #37 Jr. 6-4 260 (N/DE) Brad Gurley #56 Jr. 6-4 240 (N/DE) Rotational piece: Amario Wilson #88 Jr. 6-5 240 (DE) Offense: Austin Anderson #70 So. 6-4 335 T Christian Johnson #57 Sr. 6-1 305 C Tyler Littlefield #74 Sr. 6-0 230 T Jayran France #52 Sr. 6-0 285 G Ken-Yae Cofer #53 Sr. 6-1 270 G
  5. Owensboro has a talented interior lineman, Jak (didn't catch his last name) he currently holds an offer from Kentucky... he's only a freshman. I think he's going to have his hands full with Jeremiah Lightfoot and Gurley (when he slides to the 0 technique.) Playing against lines like St. X and Trinity has conditioned us well up front! With that said, Owensboro can attack our aggressiveness with counter gap and counter trey schemes if they decide to run the football. We have guys like Reece Jones who are experienced enough to read his guard/flow and get to the ball, the 4 technique must get to his guard and hold down the B. I'm looking forward to this battle in the trenches!
  6. Yup, sometimes they drop 8 and just bring pressure with their Nose 4 and 5. But the anchor can either drop or be a pure edge rusher. I think they'd be smart with dropping 8 to keep those wide outs contained a bit. But, if Gavin and his oline can resist pressure from Bg's Dline you may see an adjustment to just get after the quarterback. BG also likes to loop and twist their Dline to mess up protection schemes.
  7. Do you think they will run a two safety look to keep someone over the top of Dingle?
  8. Spot on! We gotta take care of business from the first whistle to the last. Owensboro came out and throttled Douglas in the first part of the game going up 21-0, we can't let that happen. That comes with tackling on special teams and putting Gavin and the Devils on a longer field (inside their 35). I love the bail technique used by our DB's, this allows us to bait quarterbacks into picks (Neon Deion!). I really love the schedule the coaching staff put together, along with a decent district has made this Purples squad as battle tested as any team before them. I'm looking for Dingle to make a huge debut at Kroger field! Go Purples!! Final Prediction: BG: 30 Owensboro: 18
  9. I'm basing that prediction on some of the clips I've seen and the talk coming from that area (Frankfort.) I have nothing but respect for Boyle's run of excellence! We see some of those same coaching philosophies in coach Brandon Smith over at South Warren. I just think in this game, giving up the edge and not setting a hard enough one with the secondary could pose problems for Boyle. If Boyle can keep the game within the tackle box, tackle on special teams (angle kicks), and control the ball they will be state champions once again. I'm definitely looking forward to a great weekend of football!
  10. He's pretty good at basketball too. I believe he's a 3 year starter coming into this season January, I'm excited to see him on the hardwood too!
  11. Cooper was 5-16 on his passes for 58 yards I wouldn’t be throwing the ball either... gotta give credit where credit is due. Our center couldn’t handle the nose guard all night, that put immediate pressure on Cooper.. and clogged his vision. When you’re a coach you know your personelle and what they can do, along with the team you’re facing. I respect the calls that have been made on offense, and I shouldn’t have to be defending it in the first place. I agree that getting the ball to Dingle should be a priority when available, but asking for a true spread offense with our wide outs and quarterback isn’t a good idea. With that said Cooper is an electric athlete with the ball in his hands, he just happens to play quarterback. The staff will continue to make calls that suit their players, the philosophy changes with the players and their strengths... There are a lot of hours of preparations that goes into a game plan, and those hours along with a great defense has put us at Kroger field!!
  12. I'm not sure if this is in the playbook, but Y screen could potentially get him the ball even it's a cheap way. He's a LOAD to tackle, getting the ball in his hands with momentum could help if there's no way to get the ball to him in the seams.
  13. Absolutely! We got some guys on defense that when they get the ball in their hands they can find the endzone. It's hard to pick the 'best' DB on our team because every one of them are talented. Echols, Millett, Rainville, and Burwash are the seniors, so the younger guys follow after them! I'm excited to see that Jungle D!
  14. I watch the games just like you do.. Dingle has caught how many balls and scores? Strode had a great game vs Greenwood, not many other volume catch games however. So I still stand behind that Bunton and Burwash are the threats in the passing game. Dingle could obviously be the leading receiver if he wasn't double teamed every play, along with being chipped by the 6 technique every play. If Owensboro for some reason allows Dingle to roam free, then we could be talking about a big game.
  15. Bunton and Burwash? You just complained about feeding them the ball. The actual X and Z receievers are: Will Vale #13 Conner Siddens #80 Hopefully the can make it happen on the outside. Siddens had a great block on the outside that sprung one of Bunton's longer runs Friday. So I believe that 13 & 80 will be more valuable at blocking the alley than running routes.
  16. What other receivers would you like to target sir? There hasn't been a consistent outside threat all season other than Burwash. (Wilson's out), we expect one to show up Saturday? As for the mobility take, there's no need to roll out if it's not a designed play, Conner has always been able to extend the play. I agree with you on that it'd be nice to have more 58 yards passing. Also, we have dropped quite a few balls this season, not just in that Covington game. If we limit our turnovers, our offense should be fine..
  17. I'm just not sure what exactly you're looking for in an offense is what I'm saying. One post I might see that we gotta throw the ball, the next post is that we have to pound with Bunton? I agree with you that when BG is not turning the ball over they are fun to watch. I'm also saying there isn't much credit being given to the competition the Purples are actually facing. This isn't Barren County or anyone else from that old schedule, the competition has increased. So to expect us to beat up teams and score in two plays or less is very unrealistic. I'm very proud of our boys and what they've accomplished on both sides of the ball.
  18. There a lot of Junior Madden offensive coordinators on this thread and there have been quite a few posts in the past dogging our OWN offense. I'm sure running four verticals with Dingle is going to put points on the board, along with also running the ball with Bunton while jumping through a flame hoop with Conner.. Offense just needs to grind and control the line of scrimmage. We have a solid offensive line with veteran leadership (Johnson, Littlefield, France, and Cofer) Austin Anderson is a monster on the edge, and he's only a sophomore. If you watched the Covington game, the offense did well at making Catholic stack the box, and then slip Bunton or Burwash out on a bubble or a screen. We just didn't catch the ball.. and that's fine, I'm sure they will be coached up during the week to be ready for an even better defense.
  19. BG vs Owensboro is going to the most interesting. But I'm looking forward to seeing those Franklin County boys play! They've got something very good brewing up there (Elkhorn Middle School won the 2020 state title, so the incoming freshman should be impressive - Keep an eye on Kalen Washington (RB)).
  20. They’ve definitely put up better fights than others around the state vs our two powers South and BG.
  21. Winning two state titles and contending for four isn’t bad.. I guess I could have subbed out the word for dominance for competitiveness? But anyways great job by the players, #5 is a good size quarterback and I hope he gets a shot at the next level regardless of the division.
