  1. Thanks for responding. It didn't matter because these were the middle linebackers for about 7 years: Kam Butler - 4 year starter at the FBS level - 240lbs Michael Mayer - NFL player - 240 lbs Aiden Jones - currently at West Point - 240 lbs I really like our guys now but they're more of an athlete than super physical and cleaning up between the tackles and beating up on offensive linemen like these three guys. They gave up 290 yards on the ground to Highlands last year and similar last night to Ryle. It's probably going to be the same against the three above listed teams. I do agree that lack of a threatening passing game is also a big issue against similarly talented teams.
  2. The relative lack of size on the line of scrimmage is going to be a major issue against at least Elder, Highlands and Cathedral. Having said that, I still think Cov Cath has a shot to win 4A if things break right.
  3. A few thoughts from the game: - It felt like playing Elder a week before playing Elder. Big on the lines, good on special teams, didn’t beat themselves, a lot of good players up and down the roster, etc. - Losing the turnover battle by 3, having a bunch of penalties and getting outplayed in the kicking game is a good way to make sure you lose. - The size difference on the line of scrimmage was notable. I felt bad for our RT who is not a lineman but stuck there. - Cov Cath offense is really compressed right now. There’s really no threat vertically or in the drop back game unfortunately. - Cash and Gaiser have a ton of juice and made some great plays tonight. They’ll put up a ton of production this year. - Is Brandon Smith number 19? Yeah that’s going to be a real player. Size and movement skills!
  4. Will be interesting to see tonight if Cash has taken a jump as a passer both vertically and outside the numbers. He's always going to be limited over the middle in the drop back game because of his size, but some improvement here would do wonders for the offense against good competition.
  5. Agreed. I also think Boyle’s staff is really good after playing them a few times.
  6. Very competitive class. It feels like coaching will have an outsized impact relative to other years with how tightly bunched the top group look to start the year.
  7. There is a lot of team speed and athleticism for Cov Cath..as long as they are competitive up front, I think they pull it out in a tight one. I think this is definitely the most talented and deepest roster Coach Eviston has had in a while.
  8. After some talk of Spencer not playing, looks like he is. 6'4 225 and running 4.7 laser will work at TE. That broad is nice too for a high school junior. We need him to be really good to make a run this year.
  9. Unless 15 is headed to the SEC, he’s not getting down a 215lb QB with one arm. Why size matters at the position.
  10. http://www.hudl.com/v/2SNUh His pocket awareness looks pretty good here? Quite literally the first 3 plays he displays good movement/awareness.
  11. Outside of it being the alma mater, Ryle and at Elder is such a physical start to the season that I’m sure Eddie’s main goal is just to make sure the team is healthy and ready to roll. Also kind of interesting there are 4 freshman listed on the roster with linemen numbers. Maybe nothing, maybe something, but you have to be really good on the line of scrimmage to win the 8th grade Cincinnati league, so good chance there’s a nice influx of talent there.
  12. I believe X has 4 Power 4 linebackers on the roster this year as seniors...good luck to the opposing offenses!
  13. If you are getting MAC verbal offers prior to your junior year, I think it would take a lot to not end up at least at an FCS school like Eastern/Indiana St/Youngstown/etc. I think the three schools in three years are easily explainable since only one guys plays at QB. Elder - more developed similarly talented player in the same class, Cov Cath - a year behind one of the best athletes in school history.
  14. http://www.hudl.com/v/2R4b9R Whew...yeah this is an SEC receiver.
  15. Because he’s 6’3, 215 with a strong arm and clean mechanics. Colleges care very little about high school production.
  16. I don't know. I'm not really plugged into the program these days—I just watch the games. I guess I'll find out in about a month lol. My guess is it is going to take a real talent coming in at QB to beat out Dylan Courtney for the varsity starter in 26. I think he will be very good as a junior and senior.
  17. He has a lot of juice in his arm and is pretty athletic. He was definitely the most talented freshman QB we've had since at least 2020, probably back to AJ Mayer. I think once he works with Evision for a full year and offseason about playing on time in an offense and knowing where to go with the ball with real coaching, he's going to be really, really good. I'd be a little surprised to see him better than Queen at Beechwood now next season though. I think Emmett is just going to be an absolute machine throwing the ball in 25 and 26.
  18. There's a saying in college coaching, "If you run your QB, you better have two." While obviously not college, there are a lot of big physical teams on the schedule that I would not be surprised if at Cash's stature, we're needing to play or finish a game or two with him not out there. Will be interesting to be see if that's Dylan Gaiser (was the Freshman QB in his class) bumping over from RB and Eviston just running him or Dylan Courtney (Really talented freshman QB last year) getting those reps.
  19. My best guess without any spring ball details QB: Cash Harney RB: Dylan Gaiser WR: Zac Brooks and Mac Cogswell/Donovan Bradshaw (assuming he plays) on the outside, Logan Sanning in the slot. TE: Owen Pitzer, Brady Guard, Cash Myers OT: Jonny Lind, Landon Robinson (Landon is future FCS or higher IOL in my opinion) IOL: two of Tucker Evans, Charlie Reeves, Mitchell Woolf, Ryan Haas, Colin Vinson IDL: Lind plus a rotation of the IOL guys. Edge: Brady Guard ILB: Owen Pitzer, Cash Myers/Evan Link Slot Defender: Jackson Payne CB: Gaiser and Brooks S: Harney and Sanning + Gabe Weis as safety 3 spelling Cash.
  20. I assume this is him? https://www.hudl.com/video/3/19991237/67b0ce78ed7e1fd1e79542bf I could see him headed straight to the TE pipeline at his current size. It's always tough to tell at this age since some kids peak early, but the size and athleticism here is nice.
  21. And even then there was a big difference between a real blue chip 5 star recruit (without elite athleticism) and guys who fill out classes at Bama and OSU since he was so much better than everyone else on the field. Talent is not always the FBS recruits, but if you have a 5’11 lineman or 5’8 safety playing D2 or NAIA, those kids are going to be great high school players as well. There’s only so much you can do in high school with getting talent in the door, but really good staffs can set a floor and also help push you over the top if player talent is close (for example, the top 3 4A schools this year will likely have similar talent, but 1 staff lags behind the other 2 imo….will be interesting to watch). Great coaches are never coach up average talent to win big.
  22. Cov Cath could have had the best culture in the world, but there is a 0% chance they would have beaten Ohio D2 champ LaSalle and Freddy D in 2019 without Mayer. Creating an attractive culture is important, but it’s 80% Jimmies and Joes. Coaching makes a big difference if the talent level is close and game can go either way.
  23. Agreed. Since Eddie Eviston got there he is 0-7 on winning a state title without Michael Mayer on the roster. The 17 team was so loaded, that even without Mike on there, they had 3 FBS players plus multiple FCS guys. I still think he's an A-level high school coach, but having talent in the building is the most important thing.
  24. I assume Ryle folks think they’ll be better this year? Looks like it to me after reading through this, which is hard to do after losing a P4 DL and 6’4 stud HS receiver…week 1 vs Cov Cath will be a battle!
  25. He is really athletic and twitched up, but I would be pretty surprised to see him go FBS right out of high school. With schools seemingly only taking 15-20 high school commits now and going heavy portal, I think it would take a pretty insane camp showing to offer a probably 5'9 kid with no receiver tape to fit in one of those spots. I also think less college teams are running 10 personnel (4 WRs/1 RB) air raid style systems than they were around a decade ago and where Cash's quickness would shine like Edelman/Welker/you know the stereotype. I could see some lower FCS teams looking at him however. As you guys know with college recruiting, almost all of the eval is on physical athletic traits compared to high school production or even position technique. Right or wrong, the college coaches just want a big athletic guy in there and they can coach them up.
