Covington Catholic vs. Newport Central Catholic Predictions/Updates (Scrimmage)

Featured Replies

The Colonels and the Thoroughbreds will be knocking off the rust as they knock helmets with one another to begin their final week of preparation before their season openers.

Cov Cath will have a lot of pieces returning from 2024, returning their offensive and defensive backfields, as well as most of their receiving and linebacking corps. QB Cash Harney & Dylan Gaiser combined for nearly 3,000 rushing yards last season, and receivers Zac Brooks, Donovan Bradshaw, Mac Cogswell and Logan Sanning will all be back again for the Colonels. Returning starters Tucker Evans and Jonny Lind and will anchor both the offensive and defensive lines. On the linebacking corps, junior Owen Pitzer will likely be mike linebacker with Brady Guard, Cash Myers, and Jackson Payne at the ready behind the d-line alongside Pitzer. The defensive secondary has a bevvy of speed with Cash Harney, Dylan Gaiser, Zach Brooks, and Logan Sanning all returning along with Gabe Weis and Luke Lampe.

Scrimmage kicks off at 7:00pm on Friday in Park Hills.

Same here about sitting by me at a game. I feel bad, for instance the McCracken and Mayfield games when there are huge crowds and we may have family/friends sitting with us who otherwise may not go to

As long no one gets hurt it should benefit the Breds going into the season opener. I’m not sure what the game plan is for Colonels, but the Breds will have a tough go of it in this one. This what scrimmages are for.

Also kind of interesting there are 4 freshman listed on the roster with linemen numbers. Maybe nothing, maybe something, but you have to be really good on the line of scrimmage to win the 8th grade Cincinnati league, so good chance there’s a nice influx of talent there.

Went from being AAA in 1981 to 1A by 1992. Dropped quick.

Just got a correction on the kickoff time...the scrimmage kicks off at 7:00pm on Friday, not 6:00pm as originally stated.

None of the meteorologists are calling for very much cloud cover in the evening, although there's some chance for pop-up thunderstorms between 11am and 3pm. Fingers crossed that we can squeak in the scrimmage tonight and that everyone started working on hydrating properly yesterday. Little doubt that we'll still see some kids on the sidelines with cramps tonight, though.

Any video of this?

I don't think they've typically had video broadcasts for scrimmages in years past, and the homepage for the video broadcasts currently shows the home opener against Ryle as the first video broadcast event for the football

I suspect that they may have an audio broadcast, though, because the Mixlr app has sent me notifications that the Colonel Athletic Network has gone live with broadcasts a couple of times in the last week or so...I would assume that was them testing things ahead of time.

Here are the links for where you'll find broadcasts if there are any:

Audio Broadcast: Colonel Athletic Network on Mixlr

Video Broadcast: Colonel Athletic Network powered by BoxCast

Just over 2 hours until kickoff. We haven't had any pop-up showers or thunderstorms here in Fort Wright, a mile from the stadium. It's been slightly overcast for the past couple of hours, but that's started to break up here, so that means the sun is gonna get to beating down on the field.

My phone and the thermometer on my front porch (in the shade) are both saying it's 91° currently.

Getting ready for the National Anthem.

The Thoroughbreds are in white jerseys and pants, and the Colonels are in blue jerseys and pants. New Cath already has their helmet decals and are ready to go.
