Newport Central Catholic at Covington Catholic (Scrimmage) (8/14)
I think Spencer is going to have a really good senior year. Being TE2 in your own class with a running QB is not a great recipe for production, but there’s just not a ton of guys that big (6’4, 237) that move that well. I think he’ll make a big impact on both sides of the ball this year.

2026 Covington Catholic Colonels
I think we’re mostly saying the same thing. I never said he couldn’t play P4, but that he needed to develop speed wise (like you also mentioned) because otherwise he would have ran well enough to see some offers roll through after camps this summer. My only pushback is P4 no doubt is a bit premature IMO considering how hard it is to play at that level. Now, if he looks pretty clearly like the best athlete on the field the first 4 or 5 games, I’d be thrilled and would love to change my opinion.

Hey I really hope so! I always am cautious not to set too high of expectations for recruiting stuff for these kids. It won’t be a letdown if he goes to Miami Ohio. For example - here is how a 3 star safety (Marquis Bryant) going to UK looked as a freshman in high school. Compare that to Brandon’s tape on number 2. It’s not apples to apples since Brandon is probably 2 inches taller, but clearly there’s a gap. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/19510335/65624f78b023ac0a786f6b69 https://www.hudl.com/video/3/20463136/69c606e6d407ba8fa00dc0d6

Brandon is going to be a stud the next 3 years, but it’s really, really hard to play P4! He’s got good not great size, but we will see how well he moves this year. It looks like he’s keeping his weight around 185 this year instead of closer to 200+. I personally thought he looked like a future big nickel/Will linebacker type shooting towards around 215 pounds as he got older. If he wants to go the WR/S path, he’s gotta move a little bit better to start getting in that range of recruit and maybe he will. Especially with you see how Tyler Fryman looked athletically down the road as a freshman, future P4 receivers move differently than everyone else on the field in this area, even at a young age. Regardless, he’ll be an awesome high school player.

Do you think Ryle is going to be better at QB than last year?

https://linknky.com/sports/2026/07/28/five-things-to-know-about-covington-catholic-football-for-2026/ I can’t remember Coach Eviston talking about a rising sophomore like he does Kiyan Miller. He must have had a great offseason and ready to be a 200+ lb battering ram at RB. Coach Eviston expects Owen Pitzer to be a similar level player to Michael Mayer and Willie Rodriguez. Mike is a stretch, but I think he’ll be around Willie as a high school player. He’s about 2 inches too short to get recruited like Willie did IMO. Dylan Courtney being a 6’3 pocket passer, but also athletic enough to throw down dunks in the varsity basketball game vs. Moeller is quite a high school QB package.

Some really good football players here to watch the next 3 years. Parker Payne played as an edge as a freshman and he’s right there with Kirtely. He should be a total stud his junior and senior year.

KY HS Football Participation Numbers-2026
Just eyeballing it, the sidelines have felt a lot smaller the last few years. 38 sophomores would be a huge jump over the last decade compared to other rosters. A lot of reasons for it like mentioned in a few other posts, but I think playing a bunch of guys both ways at Cov Cath discourages some guys from playing and developing if they don’t see a real path for PT or a role.

Tyler Fryman (Beechwood '27) Recruiting
Tyler’s freshman year he went: 8 touches, 130 yards, 2 TDs and a pick on defense in the Cov Cath/Beechwood game when the Colonels were a 14-1 4A team. He was easily one of the three best guys on the field that game too at that young of an age. Just an incredible player.

Senior OL/DL Jonny Lind committed to Army today. His conditioning and effort being a two way starter for three years is as good as you will see on the high school level for a lineman. Very fitting he ended up at West Point and he will have a huge senior year!

Beechwood has struggled the last few years against much worse line of scrimmage play than what Cov Cath is going to be rolling out there this year. I would be shocked to see a Beechwood upset. Ryle on the other end, whipped up on the line last year vs Cov Cath, brings 2 huge starters back and their best player, Max Parsons, didn’t even play in the game if I remember correctly. I know Ryle loses a bunch of dudes, but that feels like it is going to be extremely competitive with how good their OL should be.

I don’t think Kaden Estep at QB for Elder going against an inexperienced secondary in week 2 will go well. Highlands is probably a coin flip and Cov Cath hasn’t beaten them in a couple years. Ryle despite losing Jacob Savage and some really good players, still whipped Cov Cath on the line of scrimmage last year and has beat Cov Cath the last two years. Cathedral has a bunch of talent plus a really good coaching staff and is a 2 hour bus ride away. Going 2-2 for a team that’s ‘up’ feels right. For people who weren’t following back then, AJ Mayer is Michael’s older brother. He was a dual threat 3 star recruit that went to Miami OH around a decade ago, had over 50 total TDs his senior year and obviously a total stud high school player. I think Courtney is very similar as well with his size, athleticism and arm strength.

8-2 and making it very interesting with Boyle in the playoffs imo. They’ll drop Elder and take 2/3 from at Ryle, home Highlands, at Cathedral. I am a big believer in Dylan Courtney at QB and the bigs and TE/LB group. This is a really talented team for KY 4A and the expectations should be high.

Full scholarship in MAC as a relatively shorter TE is no joke. Owen is a really fluid athlete for being 230+ pounds and should get a bunch of targets playing with a passing QB for the first time. He should have a great senior year.
-
2026 Elder (OH) Panthers
IMO will have Big 10 starter tools once he gets closer to 200 lbs (similar to Colandrea at Nebraska). Durability is obviously a concern at that weight, but his arm strength is outstanding for being 160 lbs and he will have 3 years of starting experience often playing against more talented opponents in Ohio D1. Will be a huge challenge for Cov Cath and Highlands.

2026 Elder (OH) Panthers
He’s outstanding. I think he’ll get on the field very early in Oxford.

2026 Covington Catholic Colonels
I don’t know enough outside of the top 3 guys on Beechwood’s roster to comment on whether this is true or not. But imo, this is the most talent I think Cov Cath has had since at least 2020. There are four guys who have reported FCS or FBS offers. Yes, I know most of those probably aren’t committable yet, but the size and athleticism is there. Brandon Smith will very likely make that five at some point. Players like Dylan Courtney, Cash Myers and Kiyan Miller could easily join them or end up at a high D2 or NAIA program. That’s a lot of talent for KY 4A.

2026 Beechwood Tigers
This is very cool for Emmett. I believe the first P4 NKY QB commit since Tanner Morgan went to Minnesota out of Ryle a decade ago. Building an offense around Queen/Tyler Fryman/Nathan Pabst would be killer at any level, let alone 2A.

I think Jace is a good player! My guess is you’ll see him and Brandon Smith in the secondary with a combo of a couple seniors who were blocked last year (Jason Fedor and Grant Reardon) and a couple sophomores with some ability (Jamir Kirtley and Donovan Eviston). I think Kirtley is going to be an outstanding DB as he gets older.

A couple thoughts on the team for this year. This is a really talented roster. - I have high expectations for Dylan Courtney (jr.) at QB. A plus athlete with a live arm to push the ball vertically and outside the numbers is tailor made for Coach Eviston’s offense. Once he starts to fill out physically, watch out. - This is likely the best Cov Cath will be on the line of scrimmage in a number of years. IMO Johnny Lind (sr.) is the best lineman in a while at the school and Landon Robinson (jr.) isn’t far behind him. Sam Miller (jr.) coming up from JV will be a good starter too. I still think they are two big linemen away from being able to beat schools like Elder though. - The TE/LB/Edge group is loaded. Owen Pitzer (sr.), Cash Myers (jr.) and Spencer Clukey (sr.) are all big, athletic players that should be difference makers this season. Carson Grainger (so.) and Parker Payne (so.) are studs too, but will probably have to wait their turn on JV this year. - Adding in Mac Cogswell (sr.) and Brandon Smith (so.) to the above players and this group of pass catchers should be very tough to cover. While I think Smith will get recruited as a linebacker, he should have a big time high school receiver career as a big bodied boundary ‘X’ type and Cogswell will have a huge senior year on vertical routes with his speed. - Kiyan Miller (so.) should get the bulk of the carriers at RB as the first big, downhill back that they have had in a while. He really stood out the Moeller JV game last year as a freshman. - The secondary will be a work in progress with 3.5 new starters (Smith played a bunch at safety) and it won’t look good vs Elder, but there are enough talented players here to make it ok as the season goes along. - Overall, despite losing Cash Harney, Dylan Gaiser and the DC, I think the team returns a bunch of future college players and should push for 8 or 9 regular season wins and be able to make a run in the playoffs.

Cash Harney - Mr. Football Conversation
100%. I think if Cash went the combine tomorrow, he'd probably measure in at 5'9 or maybe 5'10. Really good athlete, just not elite and at that size is how you go PWO. IMO if he was 6'1, he's definitely playing G5 or maybe lower end P4. If he was 6'4, he's a 4 star playing big time Big Ten or SEC.

Trinity 2026 Schedule Question
If Trinity is 'up' next year, I think they'd put a running clock on these guys. Cov Cath beat a pretty senior heavy team Cathedral this year and was up 17-0 in the 4th. Brownsburg, Mount Carmel, Baylor or McCallie from Chattanooga would all be good games.

Cash Harney - Mr. Football Conversation
I am pretty sure this is for receiver. Cash is a worker, but there is a lot that is going to have to go in his favor for him to get PT. There is something to be said about being on the team for your dream school (if that’s the case for him) though.

Congrats to Cash! One of the better athletes to come through Park Hills.

South Warren 36 Ryle 20
I would love to see Ryle win..without Savage at 100%, I don't see it happening unfortunately.
