Beechwood 42 Covington Catholic 35
I agree. Clay Hayden is sub 6 foot and kindly a below average athlete and still would up at a really good D2 program - AKA he was a total high school stud.

I have been so impressed by Kiyan Miller. For a 200+ pound sophomore back, he has really good feet and good hands to help out in the passing game too.

2026 Elder (OH) Panthers
I think these guys are looking at another 10-0 regular season. Maybe Moeller can get them, but I think that is unlikely.

Beechwood 42 Covington Catholic 35
I'm really looking forward to seeing Emmett and Fryman play and Beechwood should have a good chance in 2A this year. Having said that, I think Cov Cath wins by a few scores. Too big and physical upfront and at the TE/LB/RB spots.

Northern Kentucky Top 10
When none of the big public schools are up, it gets bleak pretty quickly in nky. CCH/Highlands is a coin toss for 1/2. Both of them are probably 2-4 scores better than Beechwood. BW has at least early 3rd qtr running clocks on everyone else.

Hey @Colonels_Wear_Blue do you know what the unofficial single season sack record is for the good guys? It's not listed on the Cov Cath website but I think Jonny Lind is going to make a run at that this year.

Beechwood 41 Simon Kenton 0
Accidentally calling 3x1 stick into the boundary with a field vertical vs off coverage the first play of the game last week was certainly not inspiring.

Covington Catholic 42 Simon Kenton 7
Also - whenever we can get Dylan Courtney to play on time in structure, the offense is going to put up a lot of points vs. everyone. Maybe it happens this year, or maybe it's in 27, but his out of structure play is outstanding. Even against teams like Elder, athletically he stands out.

SK isn't good, but really nice to see Jamir Kirtley coming on. He's going to be a dynamite player his junior and senior year. Brandon Smith had a knee sleeve on last night on the sideline and didn't play. Hopefully something minor and he's back by Highlands in October. Cathedral by Cincy St. X last night, so that will be some big time competition later in the season as well. I think X is down but that's still a big win. We'll need everyone ready to go for that one.

2026 NKY Frosh Football Scores & Rankings
I believe they were winless in the 8th grade league last year. That is very hard to do since Cov Cath draws from a bunch of different schools while playing only one specific grade school or maybe a combined team. Even down years for Cov Cath they're around 500. Years where they are up they're competing to win the league.

Big Things Kentucky Sports - Top 25. 9/3/26
I try not to care about rankings but Ryle above Cov Cath is certainly a bold call! For the non-followers, the Colonels won the game between the two by 44 points two weeks ago.

Is Brandon Smith expected to miss much time? Likely not beating Highlands or Cathedral without him.

Covington Catholic 42 Simon Kenton 7
I think these young guys have been pretty solid! A lot of the special teams issues vs Elder came from long snapping, kick coverage and mental mistakes on kickoff return that had Cov Cath start multiple drives inside their own 10.

It didn't matter in the game, but special teams was horrible vs Elder. Has to be better this week.

Elder (OH) 56 Covington Catholic 20
The size difference on the line of scrimmage was very noticeable. Cov Cath is big for how they've been and there was still a pretty big gap. I give kudos to the defensive staff pregame and the first play of the game? They line up in man coverage on Elder's FBS receiver with no help over top and with one of the worst man coverage techniques I can remember by a corner. Easy bomb TD to get the game started. 🤦♂️ Kaden Estep is as good of a QB as we've played since Eddie got there. Second offensive play after the bomb TD, he ran through our G6 senior lineman and then outran everyone for a TD. I'm really interested to see how he does at Miami. The best thing for Cov Cath was Dylan Courtney making plays out of structure at QB. Over 300 yards passing vs a top Ohio team is big time and he'll keep getting better and better with more reps this year. Separately I think Elder can get got by an Ohio team that has some guys at WR and QB in a shootout...their secondary is suspect.

Elder (OH) 56 Covington Catholic 20
One adjustment with the new defensive staff (I think Brian Weinrich and Mike Woolf are very good high school coaches) from the Ryle game is when they were in 3x1, we manned up the backside in quarters. Cov Cath's corners are probably athletic enough to do that vs. everyone on the schedule except for this week and obviously Beechwood. I think we'll see more Cover 6 (2 to the boundary, Quarters to the field) or a "Cone' call, which is a bracket of the X by the corner and boundary safety with still quarters to the field. Cov Cath probably won't win tonight, but they do have a lot of future college players and a couple bounces of the ball their way and it'll be tight in the 4th.

Extremely unlikely unless the '31 class is also bad. Team will compete this year in 4A and be very good next year.

Elder (OH) 56 Covington Catholic 20
Good news: I think Cov Cath is going to look close to Elder physically. Bad news: I think this inexperienced secondary is going to get cooked and Elder wins by a couple scores. Dropping in an FBS receiver like Lyman with a QB like Estep (who I’m sure is like a coach on the field at this point, but also runs low 4.6) feels like a move that gets Elder over the hump as long as they have their typical physicality and coaching.
-
Covington Catholic 50 Ryle 6
From a height/weight/speed standpoint, I think it’s the best they’ve been in a while. There’s lot of future college guys anywhere from scholarship FBS to good NAIA with some pretty good coaching and good QB play.
-
Covington Catholic 50 Ryle 6
Also - Dylan Courtney has some pretty crazy tools at QB. Looks every bit of 6’3, fast enough to start at receiver and also a really nice arm. As he gets his feet wet the first few games, he’s going to be an issue for defenses.
-
Covington Catholic 50 Ryle 6
Too many big and fast players for Cov Cath across the board. Jonny Lind, in particular, is going to be a huge problem for most high school linemen. For Cov Cath - a noticeable defensive shift on the staff. A lot of quarters coverage and that second level is really good. I’ll keep it nice for Ryle in that there I think their QB is going to end up being pretty good. Otherwise, man…. Bad, bad special teams and a ton of penalties.
-
2026 Moeller (OH) Crusaders
He looks like a guy who should be a 2 year starter at Indian Hill or McNick. 175 pounds as a junior and not an elite athlete is not going to cut it vs defenses like Princeton’s. Unless Ed’s is loaded, this seems like a golden opportunity for Elder to win Ohio D1 this year.
-
Covington Catholic 50 Ryle 6
Cov Cath has two senior G6 commits and they put their junior QB with zero career starts on this for opening night…I think Coach Eviston is letting everyone know the caliber of player he’s got here.
-
Covington Catholic 50 Ryle 6
Scrimmages aren’t always indicative of how the season will go but, this feels like 35-7 Cov Cath with Ryle getting some points off some bad special teams based off those. Things I’m interested to see: How much more Cov Cath throws the ball. New QB Dylan Courtney’s skill set fits what Coach Eviston wants to do like a glove. New defensive coaches - both the schemes and how hard the guys play. Front 6 should be very good. New kicker and long snapper as mentioned above. A great way to lose close games is with poor special teams.

2026 Pre-Season Mr. Football Watchlist
Driver is pretty easily the best player I’ve seen since Mayer. I would be shocked if he is not playing on Sundays with how big and fast he is. Fryman is also a special athlete with a chance to play on Sundays if he chooses football.
