  1. Burns has not been contacted with that information.
  2. Then Clay turns around and knocks off North tonight. I know North isn’t world beaters, but this was a game I expected North to win.
  3. The Tigers get the win in Manchester.
  4. Did the new applicant "fly" under the radar?
  5. I would say the football coaches want to see the basketball team do well and win. I highly doubt they're going to put those kids through something that is going to hinder them in their games. If you look up Coach Haddix's Facebook or Twitter, you can see he promotes the kid and shows videos of them getting extra shots up in the morning on game days.
  6. Yep after that drubbing last night I think you're right.
  7. So making kids stronger, faster, and more athletic doesn't help with basketball.. noted.
  8. I refuse to pick against Mahomes. I'll take the chiefs in a barn burner.
  9. On days there are big basketball games the kids stretch and then shoot around while the rest of the team works out. The kids have zero problems with it. Last year Boyle lost in the region on an off shooting night, and didn’t have many shooters as is. Year before they lost a PC team that lost region off a buzzer beater. Year before that they lost in the elite 8 at state. Doesn’t seem to be too big a problem.
  10. They are. It’s how they’ve done it the past four years at least that I know.
  11. Everybody on the football team takes part in the offseason football program. It’s Monday-Friday. On big game days, players go to the gym and get shots up and do shoot around.
  12. My prediction is Travis Burns ends up as HC and does a great job with it.
  13. Newport v Lyon Murray v Evangel Lyon over Evangel in the finals.
  14. Derrick Barnes who had the INT to seal it for the Lions played for Holy Cross before going to Purdue for College.
  15. Week 8: Not every team in the Region got to play this week, but there were some games that were played. We will recap those, look at who’s playing this week, and look at leading scorers from each team. 1. North Oldham (16-2) The Mustangs just keep winning. This time over a solid CAL team, they won by 16. They host Doss on Tuesday, before hosting South Oldham on Friday. Then finish the week up with Beechwood at home on Saturday. North Oldham is wasting no time getting their legs back under them from the light week from last week. North Oldham is led on the year by Grant Neal (21.3), Jack Fischer (13.0), and Ryan Howard (11.8). 2. Woodford County (13-3) Woodford didn’t play this week but have a huge game tomorrow as they host Oldham County. They finish the week up with Collins on Friday. WoFo is led on the year by Santonio Waide (18.0), Layton Starks (13.3), and Omari Jointer (10.2). Can’t help but wonder how good this team would’ve been had Jasper Johnson stayed. 3. South Oldham (9-6) The Dragons had one game last week and won it in convincing fashion over Owen County by a score of 90-62. South Oldham is back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Trimble County, and then Friday as they travel to North Oldham in a big time matchup. South Oldham is led by a balanced effort on the year by Julian Miles (16.1), Christian Veirs (15.3), Jake Fithian (13.5), and William Burnside (11.1). 4. Oldham County (14-5) Oldham Co won their only game of the week over Anderson by 20 points. They have a huge game tomorrow as they travel to Woodford and look to knock them off. They finish the week up with Shelby County on Friday at home, then host Central on Saturday. The Colonels are led on the year by Max Green who is scoring 31.9 per game shooting 51% from the field, 43% from 3, and 84% from the line. What a year! 5. Spencer County (10-8) Spencer didn’t let the snow affect them as they went 2-0 on the week with a 37 point win over Bullitt Central and a 12 point win over Grant County. The Bears kick the week off tomorrow with Collins at home, and then host Anderson County on Friday. Spencer is led on the year by Luke Erhardt (21.1), Camden Cox (15.4), Keaton Baird (12.2) and Jack Armstrong (9.9). 6. Walton-Verona (14-6) The Bearcats faced a 12 point setback to Covington Catholic at home in their only game they played this week. That’s now two straight losses, and they look to get back to their winning ways as they play in the All A State Tournament this week. They kick off action Thursday at 1:00 against Augusta at The Corbin Arena. WV is led on the year by Aaron Gutman (21.0), Julian Dixon (15.5), and Zach Smith (12.6). 7. Gallatin County (12-5) Gallatin went 1-0 on the week with a 42 point win over Eminence. They host Henry County on Tuesday, then travel to Simon Kenton on Friday. The Wildcats are led on the year by Matthew Griffin (18.2), Kellen Dossett (14.9), and Andrew Brinker (10.5). 8. Shelby County (10-7) The Rockets dropped their only game on the week in a game with Spencer where they lost by 12 on the road. Shelby is back in action this week as they take on Tates Creek at home on Tuesday, before traveling to Oldham County on Friday. Shelby is led on the year by Dillon Ritchey (17.9), Michael Jones (16.4), and Dallas Mercer (10.8). 9. Simon Kenton (7-11) The Pioneers made the most out of their week by going 2-0. They beat Williamstown by 30 and Henry County by 27. Both of these games snapped a 3 game losing streak. SK is back in action this week on Tuesday as they travel to Conner and Friday as they host Gallatin County. Simon Kenton is led on the year by Travis Krohman (13.4) and Jay Bilton (11.2). 10. Anderson County (12-7) Anderson had a tough week going 0-2 with a 6 point loss to Bethlehem and a 20 point loss to Oldham County. It was tough to drop them out of the 10 slot however, with Williamstown getting beat by 30 and the Bearcats just beating Collins by 12 nine days ago. Anderson looks to get back in the win column as they travel to Rockcastle tomorrow before traveling to Spencer County on Friday. The Bearcats are led on the year by Carson Sutherland (14.8) and Treyton Hart (9.2). Best of the Rest: 11. Williamstown (11-4) 12. Collins (8-9) 13. Owen County (9-8) 14. Grant County (9-9) 15. Carroll County (4-10) 16. Henry County (10-10) 17. Trimble County (3-14) 18. Eminence (3-12)
  16. Week 8: While snow covered most of the state this week, it also knocked out every game that the 13th region was scheduled to play. With a lot of these teams being in the mountains, that makes for terrible back roads and driving conditions for a bus. So with that being said, I’m not going to have any movement within the rankings. Instead, we will look at who is on the schedule this week, and the leading scorers for each team as most KHSAA games have their stats now posted. Here’s to better weather and more games being played! 1. Harlan County (18-2) The Black Bears have a busy week this week as they play Harlan tomorrow at home, and then Bell Tuesday at home in big back to back district games. They finish up the week with Middlesboro on Friday in another district matchup. Trent Noah and Maddox Huff are pacing HC on the season with 29.4 and 17.6 points per game respectively. Maddox Huff just received an offer from EKU. 2. Corbin (10-4) Corbin also didn’t play any games this week but their district games have been rescheduled. For this week, they play Berea tomorrow in the Hometown Bank Classic, Williamsburg on the road Tuesday, and wrap up the week with Whitley County at home on Friday. A big week for the Redhounds in terms of district seeding. Corbin is led by a balanced scoring attack of Eli Pietrowski (13.5), Zander Curry (12.1), Trey Worley (10.4), Carter Stewart (9.2), Connor Middleton (9.1), and Ryder Adkins (8.2). 3. South Laurel (10-5) The Cardinals needed this time off probably more than anybody in hopes that Jordan Mabe is back ASAP. For this week, we are looking at South hosting Whitley at home in a big time district matchup. A loss here would likely knock South out of being able to fight back for the top seed. The Cardinals will wrap the week up against cross town rival North Laurel on Friday. South Laurel is led in scoring on the year by Jordan Mabe (17.9) and Colton Rawlings (16.2). 4. Bell County (16-2) The Bobcats have a big week ahead of them for district seeding purposes. They host Middlesboro tomorrow, and then go to Harlan County on Tuesday. If they have any hopes of snagging the one seed, they’re going to have to pull the upset on Tuesday. They finish up the week playing Ryle in Knightstown IN the Hoosier Gym. Bell is led on the year by Cameron Hall (19.7), Blake Burnett (18.2), and Ethan Buell (13.9). 5. North Laurel (6-10) The Jaguars have two big games this week as they travel to Clay County on Thursday in a rematch of a district game, then they play South Laurel at home on Friday in the crosstown rivalry game. If they can win both of these games, it should jumpstart them to finishing out the year strong. North is led on the year by Reece Davidson (16.0), Brody Brock (14.8), and Jordan Rawlings (11.1). 6. Clay County (9-7) Clay has a difficult week ahead as they host Pulaski County on Tuesday, and then North Laurel on Thursday. They go to Rockcastle on Friday to play in the Rocket Classic as they find their opponent out on a later date. Clay is being led in scoring on the year by Hayden Harris (14.9), Jerrod Roark (11.6), and Elijah Bundy (11.5). Stability is what this Clay team needs. 7. Knox Central (12-5) Knox is the first team so far that doesn’t have district games this week. Knox will play Southwestern at home tomorrow, and then Bourbon County at home on Thursday. They will also go to the Rocket Classic on Friday and they will open up play with the host Rockcastle. The Panthers are led on the year by Gavin Chadwell (20.5 and 16.1), Grayson Burton (14.8), and Austin Bargo (12.3). 8. Williamsburg (10-8) Williamsburg was coming off a flaming hot week so let's hope the snow and the time off didn’t cool them down. The Yellow Jackets will go to Jackson City tomorrow before hosting Corbin on Tuesday. Thursday, Williamsburg will begin the All A State Tournament being hosted at The Arena in Corbin against Murray at 6:30. The Burg is being led by Henry Bowling (16.7) and Andrew Smith (16.6). 9. Whitley County (13-3) Whitley has a big week for district seeding as they travel to South Laurel on Tuesday, and then go to Corbin on Friday. They also finish the week by hosting Cordia on Saturday. The Colonels can shoot back up the rankings if they can go out and win both district games, but they have their work cut out for them. The Colonels are being led on the year by Evan Ellis (16.4) and Danny Ellis (12.2). 10. Harlan (4-10) Harlan only has one game this week but it’s a big one as they go to Harlan County. They managed to play them close last year, but have lost a lot of talent from last year's squad. The Green Dragons are led by Kyler McLendon who is scoring 29 per game, and Trenton Cole who is right at 11.5 per game. Best of the Rest: 11. Pineville (10-5) 12. Jackson County (6-8) 13. OBI (8-7) 14. Middlesboro (6-8) 15. Barbourville (5-12) 16. Lynn Camp (3-11) 17. Red Bird (1-8)
  17. Burns, Roberts, and Tim Rose were interviewed. Burns turned it down. The other two haven’t been contacted.
  18. Here is your 8th Region rankings and review week 7. 1. North Oldham (15-2) North Oldham continues to dominate this season. Now winners of seven straight, the Mustangs haven’t lost since December 22nd. Grant Neal dominated this week in wins over Shawnee, Evangel Christian, and North Hardin with 25, 33, and 41 points respectfully. They look to keep things rolling with this week a game at CAL Tuesday, and then a big district game on the road Friday against Oldham County. 2. Woodford County (13-3) Woodford went 1-1 on the week with a 5 point win over Washington Co before facing a 7 point setback against 13th region favorite Harlan Co. Layton Starks led the way against Washington with 22 on the night. The Yellow Jackets take on Shelby Co at home on Friday before facing the states top team in Lyon County at Scott Co in the Dan Cummins Classic on Saturday. 3. South Oldham (9-6) The Green Dragons are now winners of 7 straight as they had a big week with a big district win over Oldham County in OT. They were led by Christian Veirs and Julian Miles who went for 27 and 26 together. South Oldham hasn’t dropped a game since December 21st. They look to continue their winning ways against Owen County Saturday in the Henry County Classic. 4. Oldham County (13-5) Oldham Co had been rolling before a setback in OT against South Oldham. This was a big district game so Oldham needs to rebound as they host North Oldham Friday at home in a big game for seeding. The Colonels also had a 28 point win over Williamstown and a 9 point win over Walton Verona this week. Max Green had a big week with 30, 26, and 35 in the three games this week. The Colonels also play Anderson Co at Henry County on Saturday. 5. Walton Verona (14-5) WV went 1-1 on the week with an 11 point win over Simon Kenton and an 11 point loss to Oldham County. The win over SK put’s Walton Verona at 1-0 in the district so far this year. The Bearcats will host Cov Cath Tuesday night, then travel to Williamstown on Friday. 6. Spencer County (8-8) Spencer Co went 1-0 on the week with a 12 point win over Shelby County at home. They were led by a balanced scoring attack which saw six players score 8+ points. Spencer goes to Bullitt Central Tuesday, then hosts Collins on Friday. They wrap the week up against Grant Co at Henry Co in the Henry Co Classic on Saturday. 7. Shelby County (10-7) Shelby Co went 1-1 on the week with a 9 point win over Valley and a 12 point loss to Spencer Co. Dillon Ritchey and Michael Jones led the way over Valley with 21 points a piece. The Rockets host the Kentucky Christian Knights on Tuesday, then go to Woodford County Friday in a big matchup. 8. Gallatin County (11-5) The Wildcats went 1-0 on the week with a 32 point drubbing over Carroll County. The win saw 10 players get in the scoring column and 12 players get PT. Gallatin hosts Eminence tonight, then they travel to Owen County Thursday and Augusta on Friday. 9. Williamstown (11-3) The Demons went 2-1 on the week with a 28 point setback to Oldham County, but then bounced back with a 25 point win over Heritage Academy and a 5 point win over Henry County. Colton Feagan had a monster week with a 39 point game against Oldham Co, then 39 and 35 to wrap up the last two. He currently sits towards the top of the states ranks in all scoring categories as he averages 29.6 a game. The Demons will travel to Simon Kenton Tuesday, then host Walton-Verona on Saturday. 10. Anderson County (12-5) The Bearcats continue to put together a nice season as they go 2-0 on the week with a 13 point win over Bullitt Central and a 12 point win over Collins. Treyton Hart led the way in scoring over Bullitt Central with 20 and Carson Sutherland led the way against Collins with 22. Anderson Co hosts Bethlehem Tuesday, goes to Bluegrass Untied on Thursday, then faces off against Oldham County on Saturday. Best of the Rest: 11. Collins (8-9) 12. Simon Kenton (5-11) 13. Owen County (8-7) 14. Grant County (8-8) 15. Henry County (10-8) 16. Carroll County (3-10) 17. Trimble County (3-13) 18. Eminence (3-11)
  19. An exciting week in 13th region basketball. Harlan County continues to solidify they are one of the top teams in the state. Williamsburg went on a nice run to win the All A for the 13th Region. Bell County finally faced their first loss of the year. Corbin put together a nice week and Red Bird picked up their first win on the season. I feel pretty solid about the top 5.. 6-10 is where things get weird. Here is your 13th Region rankings and reviews from Week 7. 1. Harlan County (18-2). Another week that passes, another perfect week. HC started this week by beating previously undefeated Bell County by 19, then a 39 point win over Middlesboro, and then wrapped the week up with a 7 point win over 8th Region power Woodford County. If I’m not mistaken I believe I read somewhere that Maddox Huff set the HC record for 3’s in a game in the win over Middlesboro. Harlan County is absolutely rolling right now and look to keep it moving with a game against Harlan at home on Friday. 2. Corbin (10-4) Corbin put together a really nice week with a big district win at South Laurel by 11. Connor Middleton led the way in that one with 21 and 7 on 80% shooting from the field. They then wrapped up the week with a 36 point win over Jackson County and a 10 point win over Madison Southern. The Redhounds have won four straight and try to keep it rolling as they go to Whitley County Tuesday and host South Laurel Friday in two games that will likely decide if they finish with the top seed in district. 3. South Laurel (10-5) South is currently on a 3 game losing streak and are struggling without Jordan Mabe. The only reason they don’t drop more is because the teams under them also had tough weeks. SL had a 11 point loss against Corbin then wrapped up the week with a 7 point loss to Evangel Christian. All eyes are currently on their big road game against Corbin this Friday. I’m not sure how long Jordan Mabe is out but they will really need him if they look to knock off a solid Corbin bunch at their place. 4. Bell County (16-2). It was bound to happen eventually but the Bobcats finally faced their first loss of the season. In this case it was a 19 point loss to Harlan County at home, then they were beat by Boyd County by 2 in OT in the 2A in a game where they led most of the way. In the Boyd County game no one else played but the five starters. You can’t help but feel Bell needs to build some sort of depth if they’re going to be a dark horse in the 13th region. Bell has two big district games this week, the first against Harlan at home on Tuesday, and then they host Middlesboro on Friday. 5. North Laurel (6-10) North Laurel picked up the win in their only game on the week by beating Madison Central by 16. Reece Davidson finished with 19, Brody Brock with 15, and Kole Jervis with 13. The Jaguars have slowly kept improving and I think can be a real dark horse team come region time. NL has a chance to essentially wrap up the district this week as they host Jackson Co Tuesday, and then go to Clay County on Friday. If they win those 3 then they will likely be the top seed in the 49th. 6. Clay County (9-7) To add to the Clay County drama of this season I’ve now heard that Landon Dezarn has enrolled in Jackson County. Only time will tell if this happened. Clay knocked off Sevier County TN this week by 4 in a game where Hayden Harris led all scorers with 24. Clay desperately needs a big week this week if they’re going to contend for the top seed in the 49th. They are supposed to host OBI tonight but with the snow I could see this one being rescheduled. They then host North Laurel Friday. 7. Knox Central (12-5) Knox went 0-1 on the week with a 3 point loss at Perry County Central. Grayson Burton had a huge game with 25, and Gavin Chadwell manned the middle with 16 and 15. You would’ve liked to have seen the panthers be able to get the win on the road but they’re having a solid year this year. The Panthers are supposed to host Harlan tonight and then Bourbon County on Friday for the week. 8. Williamsburg (10-8). If there was a team of the week this week it would be Williamsburg Yellow Jackets. After going through a lull mid December, the ‘Burg has gotten hot. It started with a 20 point win over OBI in the 13th region All A semi’s, then carried over into a 3 point win over Harlan to win the 13th Region All A. They carried that momentum and did something probably no one saw them doing and knocked off Whitley County at home by 1 to cap off a great week. Andrew Smith led the way in the All A finals with 21 and 9. The Yellow Jackets look to keep their winning ways going with a game against Knoxville Ambassadors Tuesday, Jackson City Thursday, then I.A.M. TN at home on Saturday. 9. Whitley County (13-3). Whitley probably didn’t have to fall so far, but it was tough to rank them ahead of a team they just lost to. They will have their chances to move back up the rankings in the coming weeks. This is still a team that only has 3 losses on the year and has been playing good basketball. Whitley has lost two straight against Bell and Williamsburg, but look to get back in the win column as they host Corbin Tuesday, and then Lynn Camp Friday. 10. Harlan (4-10) Harlan gets the nod here over Pineville from their win over them in the All A in OT. Kyler McLendon had a monster game with 47 points in the win. They did drop their next game by 3 in the finals against Williamsburg. The Green Dragons have a big week this week with a game at Knox today, at Bell Co tomorrow, and at Harlan Co Friday. If they can win 2 of these 3 it would do a lot for this young team moving forward. Best of the Rest: 11. Pineville (10-5) 12. Jackson County (6-8) 13. OBI (8-7) 14. Middlesboro (6-8) 15. Barbourville (5-12) 16. Lynn Camp (3-11) 17. Red Bird (1-8)
