I'm not sure what QB's will be left by the time their pick comes around, but they need to go ahead and just name Kirk the starter in the last year of his contract (did sign a 3 year deal, right)? Raheem Morris will get another job this cycle if he wants it. Four bad losses (October- Carolina & Miami, November- Jets & Seahawks..not that losing to Seattle was bad, but the 4TD loss in which it happened) Three good wins (Buffalo, Rams & the Bucs Pt 2), all of which occurred while Cousins was back as QB1.

At a place where he won't be getting the crap kicked out of him? No doubt he will. Current head coaches don't touch the UK job when it comes open (per the history or their hires, outside of Mumme, who was, but at D2 Valdosta State), so why should we expect players, at the most pivotal position in the game to do the same?

Bingo. But, even behind Independents and some single "county" school's. However, all multiple high school district's operate in some of the ways mentioned above. Scott County/Great Crossing, Pulaski County/Southwestern, Pike County (Belfry most notably), Warren County, Nelson County, etc. At the end of the day? If it's not important to the decision makers at the top? Banging your head against a wall, and a wall, that ironically...has a 3-5 year shelf life at max for all of the coaches who have attempted to knock it down. Revolving doors. See Scott? See MANY others. Football/Athletic Programs vs Football/Athletic Teams. Big difference and the pendulum swinnnnnngs heavily in the direction of "Teams" in our state.

For another topic, obviously, but I had a conversation with somebody that has become a friend of mine over the years who...well, let's just say was a highly prominent figure of the TM Athletic program for years & I asked him "Why can't TM ever get anything going in football?" (obvious reason's, namely their location/recruiting base, talent within it, etc.) His response? "Money/Not important enough to them."

You're right, they were and are. Except CAL, when he got hired '09, '10 right in there. Logan County was the furthest from established, riding almost a 50 game losing streak. After year one, the script got 180 flipped. I'm not disputing any of that, I was just answering the original questions with examples that I knew of for sure that kind of fit the bill, while also acknowledging neither of them were exactly new to it. Bottom line is this, though....if having a head coach in the building was the most important, or even close to being the most important thing? There wouldn't be as many bad programs in the state that we have. Recently retired Louisville Male HC, Chris Wolfe, stated on @ChiefSmoke 's podcast that (paraphrasing) "...there are a lot more good football coaches in this state than there are programs." It's been like that for a while, but a guy with his clout? When he says it publicly, it then carries some weight. I'm glad he said it, too. For Scott (and, MANY others like them)? Having one in the building just to be in the building because it sounds good is at the very bottom of the list "What's it going to take to get good?" New coach in the building? Cool. Give him in school weights all day, open to all student athletes with one class specifically being just football players in the fall. On top of that? Be it 1st period/block or end of the day? Let said coach do whatever needs to be done.....if that means finishing up practice during 1st block in the AM after having started at 6:00 AM? So be it. If it's starting practice at 2:30 during 6th? So be it. Better yet? Hire somebody who just does In school S&C + hire the new HFC to do Homebound. Talk about being VISABLE and building those relationships early (teachers & students) and everywhere, plus coach having the flexbility to still be involved with that 1st or last block football? That's a win across the board. Open enrollment within Kenton County doesn't help. Up until this point? Scott is a distant 3rd fiddle to Dixie and Simon Kenton, throw in the fact you've got Independent districts of Lloyd, Beechwood, even Ludlow? You get where I'm going with this. As the saying goes, "Drastic Change requires Drastic Measures". Don't get me started on how all of the school's playing for GHSAA State Titles (and, countless others that didn't make it) operate their football/athletics programs & what they all do for student athletes and coaches, alike. The righteous, academia high horses on here couldn't handle it. They really couldn't handle it knowing how high performing their schools are as well, on not just a state, but national level. ...and, the same can be said for school's/programs in our own state like Boyle County, Corbin, Bowling Green, etc.

I mean, working HVAC would be an extreme example, unless that's a tie in with who they are hiring? However, OWNING your company would/could be different. Doug Charles when he was at LCA wasn't in the building, nor is Oakley Watkins and to the best of my knowledge? None were in the building when Coach Charles was the HFC. Ryan Johns at Union County, wasn't in the building his first few years (and, still may not be). He owned his own landscaping business if not mistaken, and still very well might (while now teaching?) Stefan Lefors when he was at CAL was never in the building- owned his own business. Todd Adler at Logan County (see Johns at Union). Pretty sure he's in the building/district now, but he wasn't early on. Stephen Lickert at NewCath- if read(ing) correctly since leaving Campbell Co as HFC, didn't he remain teaching at Campbell and now has become a HS principal in Ohio this past year. It is, however, important to note that the guys just mentioned? They weren't newbies to the program/community..except maybe Lefors? But he also had a lot of "name power". When he got named there, I doubt the kids/parents saw that and were thinking a certain scene in the beginning from Major League (the construction workers eating breakfast at the diner, reading the newly assembled roster). IYKYK ? I'm not anti coach in the building/district, furthest thing from it, but what I am is that "recruit the halls" (in this day and age) is way overplayed. Does it mean you don't do it? No. Instead? "recruit the kids playing other sports who aren't in football". In terms of straws that are going to help stir the drink? That's who you're after. As for the one's you get from the "halls" who don't play anything? Every once in a while you find that needle in the haystack, but as to why you don't just quit doing that? ......Because some kids need football MORE than football needs them. Now, THAT is THE victory(s).

This has not only been a bloodbath, but the single best performance I've ever seen on a stage like this. Thomas County Central just went up on Gainesville 62-21 in the 6A game. Deuce Lawrence- RB (heading to Wake Forrest) has rushed 39/385 & 5 TD's

The principal's of TCC and Gainesville are talking about all of their school facility upgrades for athletics, main school building(s) and ALLLLLL of their academic, continuous upgrades (from AP courses, dual credit, CTE pathways), etc.... Unreal....good for them (and, the many others not playing in The Benz this week)...kids, coaches, teachers, communities...all of them.

Sandy Creek & Jefferson had no shortage of dudes. Sandy Creek with the 'Dub'- won the 3A Title in 2022, too. Some might have watched, but if not....go back in between that game + Thomas County Central/Gainesville (6A) coming up and listen to the guest they had on from the Arthur Blanc Foundation (owner of the Falcons) ..which is essentially MILLIONS going towards youth sports program in 13 "surrounding/metro ATL" dedicated to just improving youth sports. **He's wearing a black, Falcons pullover** Some examples he talked about ranged from: supplying a few Middle School's in Gwinnett County (where Buford is as well) with lights for their soccer fields (and, Gwinnett Countyhas NO SHORTAGE of first class facilities) helping the growth of girl's flag football in the schools, all the way down to middle school level. In 2018 there were NO school's in GA playing it, and now? Over 300 in the state competing (75% of all GHSAA affiliated schools)

Got that right.....PLENTY of "MEGA" Camps (I know you know all of this) around with numerous schools across all NCAA levels & then on the state level? UK, UL, WKU, Murray St, EKU when they have theirs? All of our state NAIA schools + D2 (KWC) and D3 (Centre & Thomas More- I can't keep up with TM, seems like they've gone back and forth, back and forth D3 and NAIA).

The two positions that would benefit programs the most are ones that the majority still do not do. 1- Homebound Gets the coach into literally every school K-12, due to meeting with all the teachers. Talk about building relationships? Coach Jones goes to meet with Ms. Smith during window for School A's lunch on Monday, Elementary School B on Tuesday, has meetings on Wednesday and Thursday at the Middle School(s) and High School during these window's & in and out of the high school on Friday's. 2- In School Weights And not just in school weights, but the classes staggered specifically for baseball/basketball boys, then non major sports boys, same for girls + football all in one class. It hits even more when their is a Male + Female teacher for these classes (Taylor County + Nelson County HS's both just started doing this). Many many others across the state do as well...shocker, but...some household names. If you're a "never has been" and your school(s) in the district aren't doing these & you're trying to make the climb? Especially the latter. Sorry to be a dream killer, but that's a place that's only interested in having a football team and not a football program (bigger picture, Athletic Program vs Having Athletics). Big difference.

Agreed. The days when that was your only way with communicating them? Football, at a lot of these places back in the 60's, 70's, 80's when we saw the 'consolidation boom' between: A) Lone football playing school in the district and B, C, D, E, etc NON Football playing school's I get it. It mattered. For obvious reasons. I think it matters moreso NOW if you're completely new to the district as a new coach. Validity in that I believe. "Recruit kids in the hall" is also overused.....the kids that need to be recruited are the basketball, baseball, wrestling, track, even soccer kids (to do both-had a few do this, and they weren't just kickers). The 16 year old who works, doesn't play a sport, nicer truck than most of us adults and a girlfriend? There are reason(s) he's not playing anything. Now, if he's the ONE out of every class that fits into this bill, in every class, every school? We've all went to high school, we knew/know those rare ones that don't play anything, but could actually bring something to the table. The boys playing via THEIR relationship with you will go a longer way than the coach talking to him over and over.

Statistical numbers really do not have any impact on recruiting. They just don't. In 20 years of coaching & 10 as a HC? Been fortunate to have kids sign and play (or currently playing) at every single level....NAIA, NCAA D3, D2, FBS, G5 and P4 (all as a HC) & I say that, not as a 'look at me' or even a "low key" one as the kids say now...instead, I say that having met with numerous coaches (some that I've built friendships with outside of recruiting or not). This was at a place that, ABSOLUTELY proved the "If you're good enough, they'll find you." ...and, NOT ONE of them....I mean, NOT ONCE...has any of their statistical numbers came up. Be it those numbers on the high end or on the "low". If they are on the low end? These guys are smart enough to know & do realize that 'What's good for the GOOSE, may not actually be good for the GANDER' (ie: QB position & supporting cast). Conversely? If they are on the HIGH end? Which if they are that? They want to see their FULL games vs the best of the competition....to which even then? Sometimes isn't fully "good enough". So, what's that leave? Camps. Being seen in person as @New Colonel said. These camps are more important than ever, because while Hudl and other digital film routes make creating highlight films + getting them out to the masses is good for the player? These college coaches, individually at that, all get ABSOLUTELY FLOODED with them daily (I'm talking HUNDREDS...per day...at EVERY LEVEL). So, as you can imagine? There is absolutely NO WAY they can view all of them. Thus, enters the CAMP CIRCUIT. It's a "beauty pageant", "Keeneland Spring Horse Sale". I'm not saying it's right...I'm not saying it's wrong. The things they look for on tape, aren't in a stat book....ie: How hard do they play, their body language, for RB's/WR's do they block and go hard without the ball (especially true for TE types. "Ok, so you can catch it and are a physical mismatch for people? Good...get in line. Now, will you get after somebody's tail and embrace that as much as being a target against Elmer Fudd.", etc. But, I am saying (through my own personal experiences) + what I've been told....."That's just the way it is."
