I'm not 100% sure on what exactly the injury might be, but I think it's a non-throwing shoulder injury. I do think there are two other backups. Elliot Fieler a sophomore and a Junior whose name escapes me at the moment.

The four defensive backs were Braylon Miller and Oliver Link at the corners and Noah Johnson and Logan Sanning at the Safeties. With Ben McEvoy and Kai Knasel rotating in. If/when Cash is cleared, he will step in to one of those positions and when Gaiser is cleared to play he will add depth to that group.

Sorry for the late arrival. I have to abstain from BGP on the weekends or my wife might make me get professional help. I was at the the scrimmage and have to say the Colonels looked good but still have to clean up some mental mistakes. I think at the end of three quarters it was actually up to 35-0 but the last TD had a little bit of the JV squad sprinkled in so 28-0 might be the most accurate. I liked what I saw in the play calling. Most notably there were maybe one or two at the most designed QB runs the whole game. Pitzer did run once or twice on broken plays but the offense was definitely different. Rodriguez, Miller and Link caught my eye the most as the big weapons as they spread the defense wide and deep. The offensive line seemed solid as Pitzer wasn't running for his life the whole night. The defense looked solid posting a shut out. As expected the linebackers looked really good. My question marks preseason were more about the secondary, but they seemed to have answered those questions Friday with some personnel changes. I did stick around to watch the JV and Freshman games. Wow!! is all I have to say. The JV team looked really good and the Freshman team is unbelievable. That Freshman team is huge and will surprise a lot of people this year. I will be following them for sure.

Wow talk about a nasty district. The district games are going to be an absolute battle.

Adding to that list of senior O-linemen Paul Schild Austin Wolf and running back turned o-lineman Mason Edwards (Glad to see Mason back in uniform). Look for juniors Drew Huber, Andrew Finley and Issac Mason to see some time on O-line this year. Josh Flood may see time at TE as well. For his size he has great hands and surprising speed.

What more would he be looking for at CCH vs Beechwood? He would be an automatic starter at Beechwood in any sport and have 2A state championships in football most years. At CCH he will have to fight for every position in every sport he plays. Like @Colonels_Wear_Bluesaid he is currently QB3 on the unofficial depth chart. He will have to fight his way to the top. What more could he be looking for because it certainly won't be easier there? Maybe friends? Religion? Should he have to give up sports to peruse these? My humble opinion says no.

If he's not a kid wanting to play ball, then what is he?

I think Pitzer is currently QB1. Haven't heard a for sure QB2 or QB3 order. Would be surprised if Harney is QB3 and if he were I would suspect it would be purely on the questionability of his eligibility. I also wouldn't be surprised if Cash becomes the starting safety. Donovan Bradshaw, I believe is still playing. I haven't heard otherwise.

I wish I could answer that question. I had heard that he needed labrum surgery too. Not sure if he had the surgery or not. If he did and I'm not sure what the recovery time is for a surgery like that is, it would have likely been right after the football season ended. I do know he played baseball this past spring but not sure if he missed any of that. I also know that he played if not all then most of the football season with the injury last year. Right now, he is listed as RB1 and getting defensive reps, so I assume he is good to go.

Crossing my fingers that this is true. I suspect Coach EE has possibly found another running back. Apparently, O. Leen has been getting some reps on defense this year which apparently never happened last year. This leads me to believe that he may not have to be so heavily relied on, on the offensive side of the ball.

That is a hilariously spot on description of the offense for the last 3 years. Granted we are only three days into practice, but it sounds like there may be some changes in the offensive play calling this year. There are some new formations being installed and a couple of impact players being tried in new positions. I am cautiously optimistic that this offense will be different and pretty good.

I have to agree with you and add this to it. As a sophomore he didn't see a lot of varsity time. Then, he only played in 5 1/2 games as a junior before breaking his elbow early in the Cooper game. He missed the higher profile matchups like the Highlands and Ryle games along with all of the playoffs. In a nutshell he received all of these offers off of 5.5 games, his physical stature and limited stats. For some of the big D1 schools he might still be considered a gamble. I do think more offers will come halfway through this coming season once he has a few more games under his belt. Selfishly in my heart I hope he stays at UK, but my head says otherwise.

I have heard the same thing from a Beechwood parent with a player on the team. That seems like a good thing. Sounds like the new coach wants it to be his team. I understand that and applaud the effort. It's always tough to follow a coach like Rash. It might be better to be the second coach after Rash.

Wondering why Colemire was at QB. He hasn't played QB since his freshman year. Seems like he did pretty good.

Braylon Miller played his sophomore year and got some time on the varsity floor. He took his junior year off for football and had a very successful year on the gridiron. I am hearing from another parent on the team he is coming back. If he comes back, he would be the best athlete on the team. I specifically say athlete and not player. He is not tall at 6 ft but would be the fastest on the team as he is indeed the fastest and quickest on the football team. He has significant elevation above the rim. What he lacks in height he makes up in hops and physicality. He "had" a pretty good shot but his absence from the game could have changed that. If he plays, I expect him in the starting lineup shortly after the football season ends.

Not sure how to answer your question as I am not his parent, and I don't know him well enough. I only said what I said because he told his friends on the team he would be back. In my world that's a pretty safe assumption. Like someone posted on here before, I only heard about him potentially leaving on here and nowhere else.

I think it will be hard to crack the RB lineup this year as a sophomore. Leen (SR), Rabe (SR), Bessler (JR) and Michels (SR) will be a hard crew to beat out this year.

From what I hear, yes, he is coming back. I haven't heard much about him this year as he was playing baseball during spring practice. Where he will end up is a good question.

This weekend is the quarter finals of the KY State President's Cup Tournament in Bowling Green. Would love to hear updates from participants from around the state. Covington Catholic has 8 players playing between the two teams. I believe its four on each team. I expect this to be a spirited physical game with a lot of chatter. Should be a good one.

No, I think you are probably thinking correct. I try not to be a sour grapes type of guy (at least in public forums). Highlands started off sluggish last year but finished the season pretty strong. They beat CCH in a very close game and finished tops in 5A in NKY. Right or wrong I always put teams that finish first toward the top in a pre-season poll. In my opinion they earned it until proven otherwise. Now the reality is, that they lost some big-name players to graduation. Charlie Noon being the most prominent along with several others. I have watched Highlands Freshman and JV teams over the last couple of years and they have been pretty solid. I haven't seen Charlie Noon part 2 emerge but none the less they have very solid teams at those levels' year in and year out. Will that transfer to the varsity level? Always a good question. I will defer that question to someone with more knowledge than me about their current roster.
