They should be ashamed. No way there wasn’t a foul on that last shot by Jolly. The other calls in this game were bad for both teams but that last play was ridiculous.

Is this a Ryle/Cooper thread? I didn’t know a third team was involved in this match up. Pretty sure a Camel wasn’t involved. If so many of you have a problem with Coach Menfee and what you see as poor sportsmanship, why not start another thread about it. I for one would recommend reaching out to him directly to discuss your issues with his coaching style. I am sure he would welcome your insight.

Congrats to St.X on the State Title. Now for the team that won our hearts as a community and a soccer fan, the Highlands Bluebirds. So proud of you boys. You guys made all of us so proud. From your enthusiasm on the field to you team unity, it was awesome to watch. To the seniors, I will miss you guys on the field next year and wish you the best of luck on your future endeavors. To the underclassmen, regroup and get back to the State Final next year.

Bethlehem has a great team, Highlands showed some good defense to shut them out. First time they have been shutout all season. Very good players with high skill level and I can see why they have one of the most potent offenses in the State. So proud of my Birds. On to the State Final to meet Sacred Heart for the third time this season. Go Birds!

Well stated MyOpin. I think it was just a misunderstanding and the craziness of the game and post game that lead to both teams not being in the prayer circle.

They are not on the same side. SK is upper half and Highlands in the lower. SK has a tough draw with the 7th Region but they still have a great chance of making it out. It soccer and you just never know.

Congrats to Highlands on winning the 9th Region Championship tonight over NDA. This is Highlands first Regional Championship since 2010. Both teams played a great game but Highlands was able to make the 1st half goal stand. Tough defense played by the Birds and NDA fought to the end. What an empressive accomplishment by NDA winning, what I think was 7 straight Regional Championships. Probably something that will never be done again. Highlands, go make the 9th Region proud. As a Highlands fan, I am so happy for you girls.

Should be a great game. Pulling for my Birds to get the NDA monkey off their back but it’s going to take a great game from them to stop NDA’s 9th Region Championship run.

My mistake, Highlands played Boone last year during the regular season and won 3-0. Tonight’s game should go Highlands way if they can keep Hamilton in check.

The NDA vs Dixie matchup is an interesting first round matchup. Dixie won the regular season matchup so that one should be a good one. Also like the Ryle vs NCC game. Highlands vs Boone will be the first time they have played each other in 2 years due to regular season scheduling conflicts.

I am really excited for this Highlands team. I am not a huge football guy but try to catch the Home games. Very proud of these players and the way they have stepped up this season. I see a lot of heart in this team. They work hard. I am also really happy for Coach Weinrich and his staff. The last few years have been a struggle but it looks like they are righting the ship. Full steam ahead to SK.

Highlands went back down to Lexington for the Challenge Cup and came away with a 3-0 win. Well played game by Highlands. Looked better tonight than Monday. Improved possession play and finding feet out of the back. Congrats to Chloe Bramble on her first Varsity goal.

Something really special about this team. Love the way they play. Simple passing and possession soccer. Fast building attack and then total unselfishness. Go Birds!!

Highlands travelled to Lexington Catholic to take on Assumption but come back home on the losing end of this one by a score of 1-0. Most of this game played in the middle of the field. Most offensive chances were counted attacks. Assumption finds the back of the net with 41 seconds left in the game. Looked like Highlands may have been still feeling the effects of a hard fought victory over West Jessamine on Saturday. Will face a very tough Manual team on Wednesday. Hopefully they come out and get the W.

Highlands traveled to West Jessamine and pulled out the 2-1 win. Rain managed to stop for the 2hrs this game was being played and West Jessamine’s grass field held up great. This game was back and forth with counter attacks. Highlands scored first with a pass by Tatum Price over the last defender to Lindsey Meyer. This was Lindsey Meyer’s 10th goal of the season. This was also Tatum Price’s 6th assist on the season tying her with Meyer for the team lead. The second came in the 2nd half with a beautiful ball played from the back by Lauren Deckert that found Meyer with another great finish. This was Meyer’s 11th goal of the season putting her 11 goals away from passing Stephanie Graves as the all time goal scorer at Highlands. Graves had 64 career goals while at Highlands. West Jessamine kept fighting hard and found the back of the net on an excellent right footed ground shot that found the left corner. Both teams had a few more chances but Highlands defense stayed strong for the finish. Highlands kicks off this week against Assumption at the Lady Knights Challenge Cup at Lex Cath on Monday night.

Well like I said, not sure why something was said about the pre game talk or the tweets but Coach Dean and his staff has been delivering that team message since the season started. I like the message he is delivering. On to tomorrow and the match up with West Jessamine, if the weather cooperates.

The decision to sit players for a half was due to those players not listening when the coach said don’t leave the building during a lightning delay. Punishment was served and the players apologized and moved forward. Not sure what was said by a player after Coach Kerns pregame talk but since the shed door was closed not sure how anyone else outside of the team heard this. What’s discussed between this team and the coaches as it pertains to soccer should probably be kept in house.

Most impressive I have seen this Highlands team all season. They were running on all cylinders. This team has a whole lot of everything; depth, speed, skill, defense, and aggressiveness. They are fun to watch. Keep this momentum going this weekend against Trinity.

It was a misunderstanding. The parents were directing their comments to the NCC coach being on the field to argue a call. The Highlands parents wanted her off the field, not the player. Why would you want an injured player off the field if she is really hurt? Add to the fact that Highlands was up 2-0 when this occurred. The NCC coach came on the field to what most thought to attend to her player. The trainer went to the injured girl and the coach went to the refs. She was right to be upset about the call because the AR was correct in that there was a foul that should have been called against Highlands. You cannot come on the field as a coach though to confront the refs. Hence why the Highlands fans were saying to get her off the field. They were never speaking of the injured player.

From my vantage point it was an unfortunate misunderstanding between a parent of an NCC player and some Highlands parents. The Highlands administration along with a few neutral parents defused the situation and cooler heads prevailed.

The OZone has been rocking so far this season at Tower Park. The student body has shown up for both boys and girls games. This is a testament to the new principal and AD. Highlands had trouble breaking down NCC in the first half even with gaining a 1-0 advantage. The 2nd half you could tell that Highlands possession play and spreading of the field really wore down NCC. Very physical game. Two yellows to Highlands players in the 1st half. One was definitely warranted. This game had all the excitement of a District Championship game. Best of luck to NCC the rest of the season.
