  1. That's where AAU lures exposure in, then the player must excell during the high school season.. they should complement one another, not conflict. For Ky, a lot good talent will not make it to the sweet 16 - Allen is a prime example. D1 talent playing with non-college basketball talent. Not enough pieces to get Allen to the sweet 16, he cant do by himself - even at 36 ppg
  2. In KY, if you your team makes it to sweet 16 your're going to get exposure. AAU is the G-league for D1 basketball. Some slaps on the wrist and some "examples" made, but it isnt going away. They have th elite circuits structured whereas they know about D1 talent as young as sixth grade. From there, they are wooed, groomed for the next level I went to the Boo Williams EYBL Nike tournment in Virgina this past spring. I saw all the major coaches you see on TV/ESPN under one roof, for one weekend. HS basketball can't duplicate that! I was three feet away from former UK assistant/ Florida State Head coach - Leonard Hamilton. At this level, they have filtered down to the cream of the crop , either athletically or skillset.
  3. Another thread would be more tasteful. If you play Elite AAU, a kid can get offers in one tournment versus a high school season. If that player isnt in EYBL, Adidias, or UU circuit, they have to get it done in high school. If PC ever made it to the sweet 16, Allen would have better offers. Allen should have gone to a prep school for his final two years. I think Allen will get better offers this season though. Finally, recruiting is a joke. Most of these college scouts dont have a good feel for talent. And too many high school coaches are trying to *manufacturer* players. Let players play; the cream will rise to the top eventually. I'm done..open another thread to continue discussion.
  4. Allen has too much Talent to stay in Kentucky, in particular the 10th region. If he was in the 11th region, he would have better offers. Scott Co's Moreno has better offers than Allen because of the program, and not talent. Allen has more *upsides* than Moreno. Dont get me wrong, Moreno and Rhodes (both 2019 also) are talented and imposing size-wise, but at the next level I doubt they have the athleticism or foot speed to guard a wing player at a mid/major D1 program. My son was at Harrison Co last year and played well against Allen in the regular season meeting. Well, my son is back in NC and is flourishing as we approach his upcoming junior year. Nevertheless, Harrison Co was a good experience for him, "to get his feet wet". Sorry for the rambling, but Allen and Harrison Co's Free should be top candidates for 10th region POY for next year (2019)
  5. Again, anything is possible. The breds have done the improbable the last two games. If they can contain Crawford under 20 pts and Gilkey,Turley and Harris step it up, the breds can win. If the Harris kid gets shots and can *more importantly* make them, he could be a thorn in the bears side tonight. The breds main issue all season has been team defense. The opponent was averaging over 70pts per game, the breds got it down +-66. Ppg by the final reg season game. Neverthless, I think Crawford is the best player in the region. Allen and a few others will be better in a short-time, but Crawford is better because of experience.
  6. Boyers and Harris on Crawford throughout the game can present problems for the bears. These kids are long and athletic; i would try this strategy to slow down Crawford - you're not gonna stop him. When Harris guarded Allen the first time they met, this kid was agressive defensively on Allen. The key thing is to stay out of foul trouble guarding Crawford. Second, make Crawford work on the defensive side.
  7. If the polars bears play zone most of the game - its definitely over for the breds (no Free at 40%+ beyond the arc). In a man to man, there is still hope. Overall, its really comes down how well Crawford plays. If Crawford imposes his will then the bears move one, breds go home. It will be interesting how the breds will guard Crawford and co.
  8. Harrison Co is peaking at the right time. Its great to see Coach Kendall and staff get the team playing up to their potential finally. The Thorobreds can be a dangerous team heading into the 10th region tournament!
  9. The officiating 'review' system needs to be revamped. They need to be held accountable
  10. I guess you're half-way right. Lets keep our fingers cross the breds complete the second half
  11. Review the last game they played. This may help in determining tonight's winner. Remember, Allen had 18pts and only played the first half.
  12. As a sophomore Scott Co's Moreno should be in the top 5 in list. Won of the best players in the state as a unclassman, playing for the best team in the state
  13. No Doubt! Very mature player that plays well inside or outside. Definitely High D-I talent. I'm picking my alma mater Scott Co to win it all. Rode is no ways near the player as Moreno
  14. Congrats to Taveion! Great accomplishment. I played against the former record holder (Allen) from middle school thru high school. Allen was a helleva player; this means Taveion is a helleva player +1!
  15. Bracken country lost to fatigue, illness and a hot shooting Spencer Free. Overall, dont expect too much from Harrison Co. The coaching is often clueless on how to coach the talent they have. They're playing checkers when they should really be playing chess. They're not developing their BIGS and all they want to do is shoot 3s. The kids dont play sound defense either. The offensive needs to change and they need to play more up tempo. Bryant and Free are good shooters. They're not playmakers. Turley and Harris are playmakers and can get to the rim. The Harris kid for his height can really get to the rim but they dont use him like that; he also plays very unselfish. The kid just needs to get stronger. Turley will continue develop and become one of the best PGs in the 10th region. Mitton has some good inside post moves for a BIG but hes not play enough to be effective. Gilkey, the senior guard, needs to demonstrate better leadership by getting everyone involved offensively. Price and Thompson off the bench make good contributions offensively and defensively (taking charges) Overall these kids have to turn up the intensity- it starts in practice. They need to learn how to play as the Scott County program
  16. What things does Allen need to improve to become a mid or high D1 prospect?
  17. Hey.. Harrison Co. won their first game over Grant Co in overtime (76-74). I guess a week off and learning how to play D helped
  18. They dont know how to play D. Once they learn to play D they will win games. They have talent to win. Free,Turley and Harris are talented - but the team D is subpar. They are getting beat on transition scoring (turnovers and not getting back).. it starts in practice - more sliding feet and less fouling when getting beat.
