1. Last spring we had 31 division 1 schools watch one of our practices. In one practice, we had UK, IU, Oklahoma, Pitt, Duke, Vanderbilt and Indiana State standing on our sidelines. I brought the team together in a big circle and just had them enjoy the moment and point out what a great experience the next hour and half would be. It was surreal, to say the least. You have no idea how important these experiences are to a school like Waggener, who is fighting tooth and nail to make it to the top. We added 8 students through in building recruiting last spring, young men who joined the team for the first time. Despite all of this MY AD, is one who consigned this proposal, despite me having the complete support of our track coach and baseball coach. You can't tell me there are ulterior motives of some sort! - Coach Johnson Waggener HS
2. It is very disappointing, and more so for me due to the secrecy of the whole thing. Our ADs have been meeting and planning this for months without telling any of the Head coaches, of any sports. At Waggener we have 3 football players that play baseball, they do not attend spring practice. Our head track coach is an assistant for football, we schedule both sports to work hand in hand, we have 23 football players that participate in track. We have ZERO conflicts, even in the minds of baseball and track coaches. We, the Head coaches in Louisville, found out on Thursday at a coaches meeting. 4 of the 19 knew it was being discussed. My AD yesterday when asked about it, didn't mention that he was the one co-signing the proposal, even acting in aggreance. The 7 on 7 will be just within house due to not having catastrophic insurance.
3. http://www.whas11.com/article/sports/high-school/student-first-approach-leads-to-1-million-in-scholarships-for-waggener-athletes/417-516038632 I attached a link of an article about our program, and wireman was right, it is definitely always interesting at Waggener, although I know he was trying to be negative, ain't nobody got time for that. Also, Jairus did sign with UofL after a whirlwind of a week due to some antics of Coach Narduzzi at Pitt. He was set to accept a Blue Shirt to Louisville, however we were able to put enough pressure on Louisville, thanks to West Virginia and Florida State, to be able to have him a scholarship signed with the class of 2018, which is why there was not an announcement at 3pm, it could have cost him an immediate scholarship offer.
4. I know for a fact Coach Lucas is not a candidate, he is extremely happy at GRC.
5. Josh Moore view from end zone, IMO, is definitely a correct call. Danville WR caught it, still had hands on it after rolling out of bounds and Mayfield defender got up with it. Wouldn't have been a catch in NFL, however I think correct call for HS.
6. Corbin has single covered Baker second half and he is killing them.
7. 46 yard punt Central ball on own 48. 8:28
8. Corbin is lost on KOR, Corbins ball on ow 6
9. 21 to 12 TD Central Ukari Baker 2 pt conversion good Tide has turned. 9:31 remaining.
10. You are fine sir, definitely didn't think you were trying to be malicious, just have had to fight misconceptions for the last year about our young men, just want people to know my guys are classy and brave!
11. That is conpletely incorrect. Waggener did NOT take a knee as a team during the national anthem. One player did so, and the following week the team discussed the issue and chose to stand in attention for the National Anthem the following week. On the first play of the game the team decided to all take a knee while taking a delay of game penalty, and scored on the ensuing play. The team chose to show respect to the flag and to those who serve our country so we STOOD. We also chose to make a stand for racial injustices that our young men experience on a daily basis, but we chose a time that could not be interpreted as being disrespectful to the flag. Sorry for the rant but really gets old listening to people's misconceptions.
12. Thomas Nelson played great, getting better every week. We started 4 freshman, 6 sophomores, out of 16 starters. We lost Jairus Brents and Manny Harper this week. We are an extremely young team with not much depth. This just seems to be one of those years for injuries, unfortunately, but next man up!
13. I will try to answer the best I can, I am Coach Johnson HC at Waggener. It is coaching, I always believe It is coaching, because as soon as we blame the players we relinquish our ability to improve. We have the best young men at Waggener and there is nowhere I would rather be. We have some holes, we lack numbers and experience. We start 2 sophomores and a freshman on our offensive line. We start 6 defenders who have never played in a varsity game. 2 of them seniors who it is there first year playing football in high school. Our young men are remarkable and battle life more on a daily basis then many high schoolers do in a weeks time. Nonetheless, they continue to fight and will continue to fight. I do not make excuses for our shortcomings, it is the hand we have been dealt and we embrace it. We will continue to improve like we have over the last 2.5 years.
14. GRC hit a home run with this hire! I know that I am partial. I Coached with Coach Lucas for 11 years and he was nothing but fantastic. He is brilliant at rebuilding programs and will get GRC on track in no time. I hate it for me, because I was going to get to be his boss this year! Lol but happy that he found a program to lead, it's what he does best!
15. Jairus added an offer from South Carolina today.
