Roster for Louisville-Area Best of the Bluegrass Squad
varsityblues replied to Purple88's topic in KY Football (High School)
Desmond Ridder was not nominated by the coaching staff at St. X. Which could be for a variety of reasons, including his committed school asking him not to. I had a long snapper that was going to UofL who was told he couldn't participate. -
I led my statement with "no offense". That should excuse any of the negative comment correct? :idunno: My apologies for being defensive of my players, didn't mean to offend you.

He has played against the best and locked them down as a freshman, without any weight training. He has gone against all the top WRs in camps around the country. He still comes out on top. So not sure what else you would like the kid to prove for you. So let me rephrase. According to top college head coaches in this country, he is one of the top DBs to ever come out of Kentucky.

No offense to you, however you clearly are not in the business of evaluating talent. This young man is one of the best if not the best defensive backs to ever play in Kentucky.
-
He did not play the majority of the season due to a high ankle sprain that he suffered on the opening kickoff of the season. He played as much as he could, but was never over 70% and still did not allow a completion all year.

Jairus just picked up an offer from Mississippi State today. It looks like UCLA and Notre Dame will be offering shortly. Jairus is a great young man that has grown up so much off of the field and is going to be playing football for a long time. One of the best the State has ever seen! -of course I am biased!

article Lessons from Labor Day football practice
varsityblues replied to ChiefSmoke's topic in KY Football (High School)
Proud to say I was on that team with Coach Buchanan, part of his first 4 years at Mason Co. I have stolen TONS of what I do from Coach Buchanan, especially the WIN drill, we did it today, because we aren't allowed to practice on Labor Day. -
Lindsey Wilson 7 on 7 Tournament Saturday
varsityblues replied to ACfan4's topic in KY Football (High School)
The final four was Waggener vs Somerset and Rockcastle County vs Allen County Scottsville. Waggener and Rockcastle in the finals. Waggener won! Green County had a very good team as well. We played them in the 2nd round and we were both 4 and 0. We only beat them by 5, which was our closest game. It was a great experience for our young team, learing how to compete the right way, as a team. Thank you Lindsey Wilson for a great event! -
Junior to be Jairus Brents ran a 4.33 at Ohio State University today. He also had a 39 inch vertical. They lined them up at the end and he won fastest of his class, and then won fastest of the camp. I am so proud of how far this young man has came and continues to push for! Tahj Rice was also present and performed very well. He was placed in the Final 4, for being top defensive lineman at the camp. The coaching staff was highly impressed with both young men. It is great to watch two men give it their all in the off season and go out and perform so well at the highest level!

I was on the 97 team that beat Russell, however I took a few beat downs from them as well! There is no better coach then Coach Buchanan, he was always nostalgic and aggressive at the same time. Thankful to have learned so many great things from him as a young out of control teenager! -Coach Johnson

Collin Portman commits to Georgetown
varsityblues replied to gh0pper's topic in KY Football (High School)
I was honored to coach Colin in the East West All Star game this year. He is a great kid with a high football IQ. He will be a great addition to the program at Georgetown! Best of luck Colin! -Coach Johnson Waggener HS -
Mason County has long produced many quality athletes of all sports and of all types. The individuals complaining on this message board are from a county that cannot compete with Mason County in most areas, so trashing the athletes, coaches, and parents seems to make it better for them. Best of luck in the tournament to the remaining members of the team!

Coach Lucas would be an absolute homerun at Dunbar. He is a dynamic players coach that goes all out for his players. I will never be able to repay Coach for all that he has taught me. As you can tell I am quite partial, however know a great coach when I see one.

Tough day for the Crimson family, I was lucky to coach Jalen for 3 years. Jalen truly was a great kid and absolutely never saw this coming. Prayers to his mom and dad, Jalen was their pride and joy. Hold your young ones extra tight tonight.

Boyle County 42 Waggener 14
varsityblues replied to PurplePride92's topic in KY Football (High School)
Well I will throw in my analysis as the losing head coach. First, I am super proud of our young men for their turnaround this year and buying into a program. Second, it was an emotional game for our us, our senior captain and starting tailback spent the night in the hospital with 2nd degree burns on his right hand and forearm. Third, Boyle was just a better team then us on this night. Coach Hester and the defensive staff did an excellent job neutralizing our team speed by playing off in their quarters coverage. They forced us to put together long drives and our mistakes offensively stalled us out several times. Hats off to Boyle County! Great team and great place to play. Wish we could have made the 4th quarter more exciting for everyone!
