So this is the one of the best St X freshman teams in recent memory? Time to acknowledge you are wrong. As for the JV game, I think we will see a much different result when some players are playing in the varsity game that weekend, not sand-bagging down with the JV during a bye week.

Trinity freshman beat Carmel from Indianapolis 40-14 . I believe they only played 3 quarters

Now will be the big question, will he make it to Louisville? He will sit out of soccer for a couple of months with the knee surgery. Since he is not enrolled at UofL , I suppose they will not be handling his re-hab. If he doesn't make it to the field for spring practice with UofL, I will venture to guess that he doesn't play at Louisville. It is interesting how fluid the college rosters are for soccer. I am not sure what exactly he had done from a surgery perspective, and how it will impact his game, but I hope he can make it back. It would have seemed perhaps best if he had enrolled and then had the surgery, under the guidance of UofL sports medicine and also been able to pick up some credits. maybe I am missing something

Actually the rule is: Sec. 1) AGE RESTRICTION a) Pursuant to KRS 156.070 (2) (e), a student who becomes nineteen (19) years old before August 1 shall be ineligible for interscholastic athletic competition. Yes and he turned 19 during his junior year, and thus ineligible this year. Had knee surgery and is trying to pick up with Louisville in the Spring Semester.

I would suspect he will be on to a DA somewhere else prior to his senior year.

I believe #19 is a freshman. He is very good. KCD is a young team and is two years away from making their run. They had 5 freshman get time and will make an excellent core for their team in the future.

Don't know much about East Central. KCD will have a tough year. They lost their All-State keeper and didn't have much else. They have a number of younger players who are solid, but it won't help them this year.

for the Louisville area teams. Ballard will be improved over last year, KCD will be awful, Trinity needs to replace much of the defense.

I would tend to agree that for a regional contending team, not many freshman make a big impact. In order for that Freshman to do so, I would think that he may have to be an older freshman and/or to have physically developed a bit. I have seen highly talented kids "playing up" just get pushed off the ball and have trouble in the middle of the field, based on size. 15 years ago there was a better chance when the talent pool wasn't as large. Smaller schools with limited rosters can get some freshman to have an impact. Collegiate for instance.

McKinney went to Michigan and transferred to UofL , but never played. If I recall there may have been some mental illness issues

additionally, 7-8 graders can't play in JV games if the other teams have juniors.. Students in grades 7 and 8 may not participate in any activity designated by either team as “varsity (first team)” in football or soccer. 7th and 8th grade students may not wear the game uniform (in whole or part), or be involved in pre-game activities or any other contest related activity prior to, during or after, a varsity practice, scrimmage or contest in the sports of football or soccer. 7th and 8th grade students may not participate (practice, scrimmage or contest) on nonvarsity (freshmen, junior varsity, etc.) level teams in football or soccer if any member of the team they are representing or the team they are competing against during any part of that practice, scrimmage or contest is enrolled in any grade above grade ten (10). It is the obligation of the school desiring to allow the seventh or eighth grade student to participate with the nonvarsity team to ensure compliance with this provision. Students below grade seven (7) may not participate (practice, scrimmage or contest) on any high school level team (freshmen, junior varsity, varsity) in football or soccer.

But it just governs VARSITY teams: Sec. 2) ELIGIBILITY FOR PARTICIPATION WHILE LEGALLY ENROLLED BELOW GRADE 9 a) A pupil in grades 7-8 in the feeder pattern of a KHSAA member school under the same local Board of Education as the member school may play on the high school team (at any level of play) if that participation is not in conflict with Sec. 3 below, and the time so played shall not be counted on the four (4) year (eight (8) semester) limit. b) Students enrolled below grade seven (7) may not play on a high school team at any level. c) A student below grade nine (9) may not participate on the varsity team in contests in the sports of football or soccer.

If a team needs a few middle school players to fill out a freshman team, I am for that. But having an 7-8th grader play JV against kids much older and on the other side of puberty, you are looking to get someone hurt. I personally think the club option for a child that age would help building technical ability and tactical awareness. Now that depends on the club and the coach. How many teams in NKY have Freshman teams? Highlands, Cov Cath, Ryle, NCC, St henry, any more? Louisville has Male, Manuel, St X, Trinity, Butler not sure if any lexington area teams have enough to field a freshman team.

That brings up a good question. What is the best mix of players on the varsity roster for the long term success of a program? Experience and senior leadership is great to have, but i believe you also need to have a good number of juniors who actually play as well as few sophomores who can get time, in order to build year after year. How many programs carry juniors on JV?

I think that roster on RIHERDS KHSAA site just moves everyone up a year in some cases until one is submitted. St X hasn't even had tryouts yet. They carry a big number of players. IF you look at this year's seniors, I would guess many of them didn't get much time last year. St X has been known to carry a number of "practice players". Players that train but come in not having much of any opportunity to play. That being said, they have been loaded with players for years and always get a deep , incoming class every year. They stack the players up deep, problem is that you can only have 11 on the field. They had 35 players on the roster last year with only 2 sophs.. You definitely have to pay your dues there. I would give them a good chance to win their region. Collegiate lost a bunch from last year and Trinity will be young.

Collegiate lost a bunch of offense from last year. I like Haji,but the college game has turned to bigger players, playing the ball over the top and muscling for position. That doesn't lend well to his game. He plays better with the ball in space, moving quickly. Louisville finally getting back to having some Louisville area kids on the team, which is good for local soccer.

my guess is a few teams send in their schedules and it populates the teams they play schedules. My second guess is the reason some coaches hold off, is because they submit their roster and schedule at the same time. rosters will not be set until about August 1st.
