I agree the QB has not played at the level of a DI QB so far this season, however he does have the physical size and arm strength to play at the next level IMO. Even if it is a HHS alum recruiter up there it was still a very bold move to offer a player before he has had any valuable/relative varsity snaps. How long has the HHS alum been a recruit for Central Michigan?

We have a set defensive line up but not a set style of plays for defense that have to be run. Offensively the teams can use whatever scheme they please. So pretty much every one is coming in freshman year learning a new system.

I know I'm on a rant but... Highlands linebackers were not making plays in the backfield that were clearly there for the taking. If they still teach the same keys as they did 5 years ago ryle backs should've been stopped on multiple plays for a loss and it just wasn't happening. I'm being hard on the defense I know, I was never much of an offensive guy.

Congrats to Ryle on the victory, with that being said... I would not base them being a final 4 team by beating this highlands team. The defense for the main part is soft, they do not have a nasty/mean mentality to themselves, they are satisfied with giving up yards and no touchdown IMO. They (the defense) does not have a man or two that are tenacious/hungry to get the ball carrier and lay a punishing hit. With this being my first game of the season actually seeing it hurts me to say that I do not see this HHS team as a state competitor. I know that ryle is supposed to be "so great" but in all honesty the teams of HHS that I know and was a part of didn't even blink at the thought of losing to a northern ky team let alone two of them. Something needs to change or this team will be luck to go plus .500.

I am really hoping that these "changes" that are being talked about make a difference tonight. Need the birdies to get on track.

I coach in the 7/8th grade FTJFL and there is some serious talent in the current 8th grade class as well about to come through.

I'll say it again don't put words in my mouth... I think you are reading what you want to see and instead of what is actually out there. Never did I say a team HAD to play HHS. I said what a great way to earn respect by playing/beating HHS. I know you are looking for a reason to argue that Cooper isn't getting the praise they deserve, so you are deciphering these messages looking for hidden meanings. Keep searching.

Now don't put words in my mouth... I never said that teams that haven't played HHS don't have respect. I simply said for someone yearning to get so much respect what better way than to beat HHS. Simply because of the tradition of success. There are plenty of teams that have respect throughout the state that HHS hasn't played. YIKES :isurrender:

I would say that's a great first step. What other way to earn respect than to play/beat a team that has won 7 State Championships in the last 8 years.

What are the coaches missing that you seem to know? Besides the ridiculous claim that the JV team would be better suited for Varsity rather than the current Varsity players.

BW used to have some of the craziest methods for conditioning... I had heard though that he was trying to get some thicker bodies for the team instead of running them into the ground all summer.

It sounds like they are reverting back to some older methods, glad to hear that.

I was starting to think the 6 class system was way to watered down but I guess we were just spoiled at Highlands for the past 8-9 years.

You ever think maybe Highlands JV players are looking so great because they are playing against other JV players?? Playing varsity is a whole different level and more than likely I would say that the JV players have not developed enough to become viable options for varsity. Just give it at least half of a season and things will work themselves out. Coaches at Highlands don't play favorites, they play the best option available at each position.

They beat a Highlands Team, lets wait to call this Highlands team a VERY good team or not.

I believe there is a highlands highlight film that shows the "crazies" going nuts before the start of the game. Then a clip shows the "crazies" somewhere around third and fourth quarter with crickets chirping and about 1/4 of them still even at the game.

I may be wrong I am not extremely familiar with some of the standouts of this years team, I am just going off past experiences.

From my previous experience playing under Coach W I would not put much thought into the results of the scrimmage against X. The coaching staff knows who and what they have at their positions and for the most part scrimmages are used to find out what the questionable kids can bring to the table for the team. With that being said, I think Birds win 28-14.

I somewhat hope Highlands has come back to the pack, it will make the playoffs much more interesting.

I am a little shocked to hear that parents are turning down their kids scholarship offers??? Shouldn't this be the players choice of where he wants to go to school and not their daddy reliving his glory days.

Dixie... I feel like Dixie always has a solid freshman team that can compete with a team like Highlands. But for some reason by the time these teams play again (Highlands vs. Dixie) as seniors it seems like Dixie has fallen off the map.
