  1. if you saw that Faulkner throw down on NFHS without the sound .... think loud, collective "ooooooohhhhhhh"
  2. Mercer lost vs the zone. LCA does a nice job in that 3-2
  3. Mercer needs to frenetic-ize the pace to have a chance here. Low energy.
  4. LCA flipping between 3-2 and man on almost every possession. Definitely a LCA pace
  5. I know Cooper can defend - but they're making PC look bad on the other end. Layup after layup or wide open 3.
  6. 1 is Fitzgerald 11 Runyon is guarding him most of the 2nd half. Was Kunkel early.
  7. spectacular is right. That performance was the definition of taking a game over - the 3's were contested and he just elevated over top, knocking down 4 three's in 5 possessions at the start of the 4th. Agree, both teams are very good. These teams will play at least twice more this season, I suspect possibly 3 more times.
  8. agreed, really good game. Was headed to tight finish before Rode got hurt. 30 point 4th Q for Scott, but they looked out of synch at times for first 3 quarters. LCA zone was effective, may have been part of that.
  9. Cozart is definitely a difference-maker, but I'm going with a 61-60 GRC win at the buzzer. Early season physical games commonly mean foul trouble, and GRC has more depth. Cozart will get his blocks, but he does try to block everything so offensive rebound opportunities are going to be there for GRC. Should be a great one
  10. Final from the Taylorsville Classic at Spencer Co.
  11. I thought they defended Kunkel fairly well, most buckets he got he would have got on anyone. Typical early season game, sloppy but both defended well, Cooper had fewer breakdowns. Lots of misses from close in on both sides. Cooper is just the kind of team players and coaches must hate playing against - they just don't let you breathe, they are really good at being distractingly physical without fouling too much.
  12. impressive by GRC Scott Co. did not have Robb and Covington for this scrimmage, will be interesting to see how they do at Ballard Friday night.
  13. I am not really all that knowledgeable about the 8th Region - well, I wasn't until reading this! very nicely done
  14. hard to keep Walters out of top 15 maybe Kyle Rode also, just not sure who to drop. it's a good list maybe make it a top 20, but then there'd be a whole new set of 'next in' names
  15. I can't speak for the other small schools, but my mother was a 1955 graduate of Carr Creek and my grandmother taught there for 30+ years - so I've heard plenty of stories about the '54, '55 and '56 teams. All three were quite good, I recall my grandfather expressing surprise that they didn't win the state more than once in that run. Eleven students graduated in 1955, a similar number in 1956, so even though they were known to be a strong basketball team across the state in those years I would be surprised if any schools were much smaller in attendance.
  16. I think so, imo there is an offensive version of the flop that was discussed in a thread previously, players driving with the purpose of putting on a performance when they get a little contact vs. actually attempting to finish. Perhaps that is a better description than out of control.
  17. This applies to non-All Star regular HS too. Seems to be a growing trend to allow players to 'express themselves offensively' leading to limited understanding of what a good shot is or how to create one. And as long as officials continue to bail out an out-of-control drive with a foul call and coaches encourage 'attack the basket and draw the foul' without ample people or ball movement, while players are allowed to take bad shots without repercussion, the trend will continue.
  18. Some great comments here, this one resonates most with me. Balance is key - between strength conditioning, individual skill work, team practices, then test in a few games with ample playing time for all players participating. I see way too many instances of competitive coaches who can't help themselves in these games - berating officials, over-playing proven players for the sake of winning a meaningless game, not giving players who need the experience the opportunities to get in the flow of a game due to the desire to win. Many players just take it upon themselves to achieve this balance, doing individual skill sessions and strength work on their own, and of course this adds to the risk of injury when they are also asked to play so many games. So in my view, anything more than 2-3 games per week becomes counterproductive and is risky to the athlete striving for the balance (or forces the athlete to adjust their approach).
