No, 3a has consistently been the weakest class over the past 5 years or so. I really think too many people are judging Mayfield by their last game. That game can be summed up in 2 parts. First, the jackets played outside their bodies good due to wanting to make a statement for a whole year. Second, our boys still thought they were going to have another cakewalk coming in. Now let's look back at the statement the Cards made this year. For starters, they gave up fewer points this year than last. Next, the lost by 1 point in double OT to McCracken Co on the stangs home field. This was the #6 team in 6a. Next, they beat a 2a semi finalist by 11points on their home field. This was on a very sad night for the Cards. This is also the team that without the refs help would have tied the Colts on the Colts home field. Next, we beat the #8 team in 3a by four touchdowns. Next, we shutout the 5a state runners up on their own field. This is the team that was only 8 points from winning 5a on a sloppy night. Next, we throttled the ten 2a #1 team. This was while they were still healthy at that time. Next, we beat a top 5 team in 1a twice. Next, we beat what everyone was hailing as the best Beechwood team since 2011. We did that on their home field after a 5 1/2 hour bus ride. This is the same team that beat NCC by 17 points. By the way, the Cards beat Beechwood by 11 points. That is a 28 point advantage over NCC. Now, I'm not saying its a given that the Cards would win 2a but, to say we couldn't have won it is absurd considering the facts.

I didn't want to reveal that TP. I can handle sportsfan doubting me. He has the past 2 years and my knowledge has proven correct both years. He just hasn't figured out how I get all this info yet. Devon Jeffries I think will also make it into the mix next year and maybe Giron. They both are close to 200 plus now. Give them another year of extra table scraps and pushing the weights and we will see. Jackson played a lot this year and was lean, I suspect he will only get bigger. And surely anyone else we get will be bigger that the Dunn boys. So there you go. Besides that, I'm sure with what talent our crosstown boys don't have this year, there will be some defectors. Now to your point about Kel, that is definitely tough to replace. As far as Kendall yes he was great but mostly as a defensive lineman. I do think we can replace the offensive side. I had figured 23 as being the most likely to be like him or your son on the defensive side but, he wants to be a buzzard. However that being said, I'm not as worried on the defensive side because of returning about 8 of the 11 starters plus some key extras.

You don't think I know what we lost. Trust me when I say what we lost will be replaced and some. Our line next year is going to average 275-300 lbs per. I cannot lay it out for you right here but, out of the line next year, the returner ( Jackson) will by far be the smallest. I expect they will add 30 lbs to him as well.

With what we have coming back at skill positions and only needing 2 offensive linemen, we will be there.

Colt pride, when did you beat us this year and last? I thought I went to all of our games. I don't recall losing to them. We lost to Caldwell in a questionable game at Caldwell and to McCracken by 1 point in double OT on their field.

This is one of those arguments that I think is unwinable and a crazy idea but, I will try to share my thoughts on the matter any way. First, you cannot base Mayfield off the state championship game other than to see that our bunch plays with the heart to win at all costs and no matter what the stats show. In that game we played a very good team that was underrated. I have a boy on the red and black and can tell you for sure they were a little to confident going in and did not adjust until down by 10. Williamsburg on the other hand played an out of body experience that only could be caused by a full year of humiliation. Now here is a break down that you can use to gauge what we did. 1) played #6 team in 6a to a 1 point game in double ot on their field 2) beat #8 team in 3a by four touchdowns 3) beat semi finalist in 2a, Murray, on their field by 11 points. Not 7 like DeSales. Just hours after learning of the loss on a senior in a tragic event. 4) beat state runner up in 5a on their field in a shut out 21-0. 5) beat one hard nosed power type northern ky team on their field by 2 scores. Now, we will never know how this would go but, when looking at all of this, I feel real good about this. Now with the improvements expected on the offensive line next year, I really like what I see.

Yes the first touchdown was from the red zone. Now a prominent attorney and radio personality told me some stats that were overlooked here. One of which was how we stopped them in the red zone and they didn't us. The other was how we took the turnovers from them. Another was the 3rd and 4th down conversions that we beat them at. Another was the kick return yardage. I guess the problem people have with us winning is the yardage. I have continuously noticed over the years at state and in this season this year how we often have less yardage than the teams we beat. Check the Hazard and Fairview games for instance. The reason for this is because of our special teams and how we get turnovers. We all said all year long that our defense would have to win games for us and they did yet again. Just bending until they get into the red zone and then stoning them.

This is one of those questions that there is no way to really justify the answer to. I will agree that both did have different aspects of their game that affected us better than the other. I know for a fact though that our boys didn't take the Williamsburg game as seriously as they should until we got punched right square in the mouth. I know this because I spent a week trying to convince one that he better play his best game. I don't think he ever believed me until the scoreboard showed us down by 10. I will say this though. If we got down to Beechwood by 2 scores, we would not have rebounded.

Well here we are just 4.5 hours from kickoff. I'm getting geared up for this team that is better than 6a McCracken Co since they are gonna hang 49 points on us. Well let's see that means they are far superior to: 6a #6 McCracken 5a state runners up Graves County 3a semi finalist Paducah Tilghman #8 2a semi finalist Murray 2a #4 Caldwell County 1a #4 Beechwood 1a #6 Russellville That is since none of them even scored 40 against the boys in the plain red helmets.

I have been saying since about the middle of October that the east didn't have anyone that could hang with the west rep in 2a. I really thought DeSales would have scored more though.

No, that game was last Friday in Ft Mitchell. We will be facing the 4th best team in 1a.

RH, I don't think it was you that I saw making such comments. I saw the VOR thread and many people referring to the better team losing. I also saw it by coach ( I gotta) Rash in the Cincy papers. Which alarms me even more that he would say that. As a coach, if he felt he had the better team and lost, what does that say about the coaching decisions. Sounds like even he is questioning it.

We don't have zero respect for them. Most of us would figure the are better than the Fulton's but not quite at the level of Russellville.
