Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on a super regional? The idea seems to be getting some traction as a way to make changes to what tournament season looks like.

This will be an abbreviated run down as I am out on the road traveling this week. We’ll get back to more detailed run downs for the final week of the season next week. All of the top teams faced adversity this week. Daviess County saw Jonathan Moss pick up 2 technicals against Apollo and cost him the opportunity to play in a loss against Princeton Indiana on Saturday. Grayson County suffered their first loss since the King of the Bluegrass against Lyon County Saturday. The Cougars picked up a game against Male on Tuesday. Ohio and Apollo continue to show flashes of inconsistency as they both could be dark horse regional upset teams. 1. Daviess County Panthers (20-4) – SAME - Wins (Apollo 60-50) & Losses (Princeton, IN 57-52) The Panthers were not sharp in a road win at Apollo. Jonathan Moss picked up 2 technical fouls which forced him to sit in Saturday’s loss to Princeton. Acton has been banged up as well. It is reaching that point of the season where everyone is ready for the postseason. Daviess has games against McLean, Owensboro Catholic and Logan County this week. 2. Grayson County Cougars (16-5) – SAME - Wins (76-50 Whitesville Trinity) & Losses (65-55 Lyon Co) The Cougars had their 13 game win streak snapped at the hands of Lyon County on Saturday. They have tough road games. Grayson picked up Male at Male on Tuesday. They have road games at Butler and South Warren to close the week. 3. Ohio County Eagles (17-4) - SAME – Wins (59-53 Hopkinsville & 66-62 Muhlenberg) & Losses (70-47 Barren Co) The Eagles had an up and down week as a bad shooting night cost them against Barren County. They had already secured the 1 seed in the 10th, but finished district play undefeated with the win over Muhlenberg. They have games against South Warren, South Spencer, IN and Owensboro this week. 4. Apollo Eagles (16-6) - SAME – Wins (74-60 Breck Co) & Losses (60-50 Daviess Co) The Eagles held a second half lead over Daviess County Friday but couldn’t hang on. Apollo travels to Owensboro Catholic tonight before games against Hancock and Bowling Green this week. 5. Edmonson County Wildcats (13-5) – UP 1 – Wins (73-56 Whitesville Trinity, 80-66 Butler Co & 65-59 McLean Co) Edmonson stayed hot this week with 2 big district wins and an impressive win at the Sportscenter against McLean County. They have won 7 of 8. The Wildcats have Hart Co and Caverna scheduled this week. 6. Meade County Greenwave (15-7) – UP 3 - Wins (102-15 Cloverport & 61-49 Hancock Co) The Waves scored a couple of district wins last week, setting up the Waves as the 1 seed in the 11th. They have games against Valley and South Warren this week. 7. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (13-9) DOWN 2 – Wins (71-68 Breck Co) & Losses (66-62 Ohio Co) The Mustangs fell in district action to Ohio County last week. They will face McLean County in the 10th District tournament. Muhlenberg has games against Whitesville Trinity, Christian County and Madisonville this week. 8. Owensboro Catholic Aces (12-9) – DOWN 2 - Wins (62-61 Greenwood) & Losses (68-58 Owensboro) The Aces continued their streaky play this week with a nice win over Greenwood before falling to 2 win Owensboro on Friday. Catholic hosts Apollo tonight before traveling to Breck Tuesday and Daviess County on Friday. 9. Mclean County Cougars (14-9) – DOWN 1 – Wins (74-46 Dawson Springs) & Losses (61-45 Bowling Green & 65-59 Edmonson Co) The Cougars had an up and down week but look to get back on track with games against Daviess County, Cloverport, Christian Fellowship and Union County this week. 10. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (14-12) – SAME – Loses (73-56 Edmonson & 76-50 Grayson Co) The Raiders dropped a pair of district games this week. This all but sets up a first round game against Edmonson in the 12th district tournament. Whitesville has games against Muhlenberg and Foundation Christian this week. 11. Owensboro Red Devils (3-25) - SAME – Wins (68-58 Owensboro Catholic) & Losses (61-59 Bowling Green) The Devils got a big district rivalry win over Catholic on Friday. They built on the momentum of a great showing against Bowling Green Tuesday. Coach Drake has the Devils playing better. Owensboro has games against Central Hardin, Ohio County and Evansville Harrison, IN. 12. Breckinridge County Tigers (8-15) – SAME –Losses (74-60 Apollo & 71-68 Muhlenberg) The Fighting Tigers have dropped 3 straight. They have 4 games this week against Butler County, Owensboro Catholic, Hancock County and Castle, IN. 13. Hancock County Hornets (9-13) – SAME – Wins (66-51 Butler Co) & Losses (69-64 Russellville & 61-49 Meade Co) The Hornets temporarily hauled their skid with a win over Butler County before falling to Meade County. They play Cloverport and Apollo before hosting Breck in an 11th district preview game. 14. Butler County Bears (1-20) – SAME – Losses (66-51 Hancock Co & 80-66 Edmonson Co) The Bears struggle continued this week. They will look for their second win with home games against Breck and Grayson. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-12) - SAME – Losses (102-15 Meade Co, 71-27 Herritage & 54-9 Francis Parker)

Snow won out for much of the week but there were some district games played over the weekend. Hopefully the thaw continues this week and we can get back to the hardwood, as there should be some interesting games to watch. Daviess County heads to Apollo on Friday. Grayson County has Lyon County on the schedule for Saturday. Owensboro Catholic can solidify their district match-up against Apollo with a win over Owensboro on Friday. 1. Daviess County Panthers (19-3) – SAME - Wins (Owensboro Catholic 56-45) The Panthers didn’t have their best against Owensboro Catholic on Friday but still got the win. Jonathan Moss led the way with 25. They are set to host South Warren on Tuesday before a big district game at Apollo on Friday. The Panthers close the week against Princeton, IN at the Sportscenter. 2. Grayson County Cougars (15-4) – SAME - No games this week The Cougars travel to Meade Tuesday before hosting Whitesville Trinity on Friday. They will close the week against the All-A State Champions, at Lyon County on Saturday. 3. Ohio County Eagles (15-3) – SAME – No games this week The Eagles travel to Muhlenberg County on Tuesday. They have already clinched the 1 seed, so the game does not have district implications. They close the week traveling to Barren County on Friday. 4. Apollo Eagles (15-5) – SAME – Wins (Owensboro 70-50 & Glasgow 74-59) The Eagles bounced back from 2 losses last week with big wins over Owensboro and Glasgow. Landon Henning led the team with 19 points and 13 boards in the win over Owensboro. He duplicated those numbers on Saturday against Glasgow. Tate Powers led the way against the Scotties with 21. Cruz and Green also scored in double figures in the win. Apollo is scheduled to travel to Breck County on Tuesday before a big district game against Daviess County on Friday. 5. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (12-8) – SAME – No games this week The Mustangs host Ohio County Tuesday before traveling to Breck on Friday. 6. Edmonson County Wildcats (10-5) – SAME – No games this week The Cats travel to Whitesville Trinity on Tuesday and host Butler County on Friday. They will close the week against Mclean County at the Sportscenter on Saturday. 7. Owensboro Catholic Aces (11-8) – SAME - Losses (Daviess Co 56-45) The Aces played well before falling to Daviess County on Friday. They have lost 5 straight against very good competition. Jake Murphy scored 14 to lead the team on Friday. Catholic hosts Greenwood on Tuesday and Owensboro on Friday. 8. Mclean County Cougars (13-7)– SAME – No games this week The Cougars host Dawson Springs before playing Edmonson at the Sportscenter on Saturday. 9. Meade County Greenwave (13-7) – SAME - Wins (Breck Co 81-62) The Waves avenged an early season district loss to Breck on Sunday. Ayden Medley led the team with 24. The Waves host Grayson County on Tuesday before hosting 2 district games against Cloverport and Hancock on Thursday and Friday. 10. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (14-10) – SAME – Wins (Cloverport 90-20 & Butler Co 59-46) The Raiders have 2 big district games this week against Edmonson County on Tuesday and then at Grayson County on Friday. 11. Owensboro Red Devils (2-14) – SAME – Losses (Apollo 70-50) The Devils fell to 0-5 in 9th district play and are all but locked in to playing Daviess County in the first round. They are set to host Bowling Green on Tuesday before traveling to Catholic on Friday. 12. Breckinridge County Tigers (8-13) – SAME –Losses (Meade Co 81-62) The Fighting Tigers fell to Meade County on Sunday. They have home games against Apollo and Muhlenberg this week. 13. Hancock County Hornets (8-11) – SAME – No games this week The Hornets host Butler County, Meade County and Cloverport this week. 14. Butler County Bears (1-18) – SAME – No games this week The Bears travel to Hancock and Edmonson County this week. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-9) - SAME – No games this week The Aces travel to Meade on Thursday. They have games against Heritage Hopkinsville and Francis Parker to close the week.

With the weather, you can expect all early week games to be canceled. It’s possible we could dig out by Friday for some good district match-ups. 1. Daviess County Panthers (18-3) – SAME - Wins (Meade Co 86-45 & Ohio Co 95-58) The Panthers continued their dominance over in region competition this past week. Jonathan Moss led the team in both wins with 26 vs Meade and 30 vs Ohio. DeAaron Watkins had double doubles in both wins with 26 and 16 and 28 and 13. DC hopes to get its district game against Owensboro Catholic in on Friday night. 2. Grayson County Cougars (15-4) – SAME - Wins (Apollo 68-57 & Edmonson Co 88-44) The Cougars ran their winning streak to 12 games this week. Jager Mardis continued his rise this week, hitting huge shots to help beat Apollo. He finished with 19. Spencer Langdon also pitched in 19. Jack Logsdon poured in 30 against district rival Edmonson on Friday. Grayson travels to Butler County on Friday and McLean County on Saturday. 3. Ohio County Eagles (15-3) – SAME – Wins (Logan Co 57-45) & Losses (Daviess Co 95-58) The Eagles scored a nice win over Logan County on Tuesday before falling to Daviess on Thursday. Max Holsclaw led the Eagles with 15. The Eagles have Hopkinsville and South Warren on the schedule this week. 4. Apollo Eagles (13-5) – SAME – Loses (Grayson Co 68-57 & North Hardin 65-62) Apollo fell in 2 hard fought losses against tough competition this past week. Landon Henning led the team with 17 and 16 against North Hardin. The Eagles host Owensboro and Glasgow this week. 5. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (12-8) – SAME – Wins (Graves Co 60-52) & Losses (McLean 47-42) The Mustangs opened the week with a nice win over Graves County. Gavin Groves led the team with 22. On Friday, they fell to McLean, costing them a shot to play for the 1 seed and bye in district play. They are set to travel to Hopkinsville on Friday. 6. Edmonson County Wildcats (10-5) – UP 2 – Wins (Breck Co 90-83) & Losses (Grayson Co 83-44) The Wildcats had their 4 game win streak snapped vs Grayson on Friday. Tyler Wilson had 32 to lead the team over Breck County. Brayden Wright had 21. The Cats travel to Whitesville Trinity on Friday. 7. Owensboro Catholic Aces (11-6) – DOWN 1 - Losses (Caverna 66-46) The Aces fell to a very good Caverna team in the All-A state tournament this past week. They are set to host Daviess County on Friday. 8. Mclean County Cougars (13-7)– UP 1 - Wins (Muhlenberg Co 47-42) The Cougars scored a big district win over Muhlenberg on Friday. That sets up a first round rematch in the 10th district tournament next month. Mclean hosts Grayson County on Saturday. 9. Meade County Greenwave (11-7) – DOWN 1 - Wins (LKY Home School 83-58 & Hancock Co 54-46) & Losses (Daviess Co 86-45) The Waves bounced back from a loss to Daviess County to close the week with 2 wins. Against Hancock, Hayden Shouse led the team with 22. Meade will look to avenge an early season district loss to Breck County on Friday before facing Elizabethtown on Saturday. 10. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (12-10) – SAME – Wins (Cloverport 90-20 & Butler Co 59-46) The Raiders scored 2 wins this week. Harrison Barnett led the team with 13 vs Cloverport. The Raiders host Edmonson County on Friday. 11. Owensboro Red Devils (2-13) – UP 2 – Wins (Hancock Co 67-45) & Losses (Bosse, IN 74-63) The Devils scored a win over Hancock on Tuesday. Demarcus Ganaway Jr led the team with 18. Owensboro travels to Apollo on Friday. 12. Breckinridge County Tigers (8-12) – DOWN 1 – Wins (Cloverport 72-18) & Losses (Edmonson Co 90-83) The Fighting Tigers lost a hard fought game to Edmonson on Tuesday. Ryan Nottingham had 35 in the loss. Benjamin Grimes added 24. Breck hosts Meade in district action on Friday. 13. Hancock County Hornets (8-9) – DOWN 1 – Losses (Hancock Co 67-45 & Meade Co 54-46) The Hornets skid continued this week. They host Valley on Friday and Francis Parker on Saturday. 14. Butler County Bears (1-18) – SAME – Losses (Bluegrass Blazers 81-79 3OT & Whitesville Trinity 59-46) Curtis Murphy had 17 against the Blazers but they fell in triple overtime. The Bears host Grayson on Friday. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-9) - SAME – Losses (Whitesville Trinity 90-20 & Breck Co 72-18) The Aces dropped both games this past week. They travel to Cannelton on Thursday.

It was a pretty quiet week around the region this past week. Grayson County hammered a good Owensboro Catholic team, showing just how big the gap is between the big 2 at the top. Apollo had a big week with 3 big regional wins. They will take their shot at the Cougars on Tuesday. I have added scoring and rebounding leaders to this weeks run down. You can find those below the rankings... 1. Daviess County Panthers (16-3) – SAME - Wins (Butler Co 82-32 & Owensboro 75-47) The Panthers rolled in region competition this past week. Michael Acton led the team in scoring with 21 against Butler Co while Moss posted 21 against Owensboro. DeAaron Watkins posted a double-double against the Devils with 20 points and 10 boards. Daviess County hosts Meade County on Tuesday before traveling to Ohio County on Thursday. They close the week at home against Hancock on Satruday. 2. Grayson County Cougars (13-4) – SAME - Wins (Owensboro Catholic 93-58, Whitesville Trinity 82-34 & Ensworth, TN 78-69) The Cougars ran their winning streak to 10 games this week and in impressive fashion. On Monday they hammered a good Owensboro Catholic team by 35. Jagger Mardis led the way with 22. Mardis had 17 to lead the way in a district win over Trinity on Friday. He had 19 against Ensworth, TN to close a big week. Grayson hosts Apollo on Tuesday and Edmonson County on Friday. 3. Ohio County Eagles (14-2) – UP 1 – Wins (Madisonville 88-44 & Mclean Co 43-37) The Eagles got back to their winning ways this week, and closed with a big district win over Mclean County. This puts Ohio in a position to at least play Muhlenberg for a first round by in early February. Ryan Durahm led the team with 18 against Madisonville. Ohio travels to Logan County on Tuesday, hosts Daviess on Thursday and plays Central Hardin at Daviess on Saturday. 4. Apollo Eagles (13-3) – UP 1 – Wins (Owensboro 67-43, Muhlenberg Co 75-73 - 2 OT & Owensboro Catholic 57-54) It was a big week for the Eagles as they scored 2 district wins and got a hard fought double overtime win over Muhlenberg. Landon Henning led the team in the district wins with 17 and 12 against Owensboro Catholic and 19 and 16 against Owensboro. Tate Powers had 23 to lead the team in the double overtime win over Muhlenberg. Carlos Cruz is also starting to emerge for Coach Tinsley. Apollo has a tough road trip to Grayson County Tuesday before hosting University Heights on Saturday. 5. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (11-7) – UP 2 – Wins (Hancock Co 90-59 & Caldwell Co 75-71) & Losses (Apollo 75-73 - 2OT) The Mustangs came off their skid this week and have now won 3 of their last 4 games. Gavin Groves continued his great start with 29 against Hancock and 18 against Apollo and Caldwell. Kason Morris led the team with 19 in the win Saturday. Muhlenberg travels to Graves County tonight before traveling to Mclean on Friday. They will need a win Friday to keep pace with Ohio County in the district standings. 6. Owensboro Catholic Aces (11-6) – DOWN 3 - Losses (Grayson Co 93-58, Apollo 57-54 & Kirkwood, TN 60-49) It was a tough week for the Aces. Jake Murphy led the team with 18 in a tough loss against Apollo. It won’t get any easier, as the Aces drew Caverna for the first round of the All-A Tournament that starts on Thursday. 7.Meade County Greenwave (9-6) – SAME - Wins (Shelby Co 96-78 & Cloverport 96-32) & Losses (Corydon Central, IN 75-64) The Waves had won three straight before falling to Corydon Central on Saturday. Hayden Shouse put up a monster double double with 31 points and 18 boards against Shelby County. He added 24 and 10 against Cloverport and 17 and 10 against Corydon. Ayden Medley also had 17 in the loss. Meade travels to Daviess County on Tuesday before returning home for games against Henry County and Hancock County. 8. Edmonson County Wildcats (9-4) – SAME – Wins (Butler Co 84-58) The Wildcats have won back to back district games after the win over Butler on Friday. Tyler Wilson leads the team in scoring with 15.4 points per game. Edmonson travels to Breck County on Tuesday before Grayson on Friday. 9. Mclean County Cougars (12-7) – SAME - Wins (Crittenden Co 66-25) & Losses (Ohio Co 37-43) Mclean split games this past week, falling to 0-3 in district play and assuring themselves a play in game in the 10th district tournament. They bounced back with a win over Crittenden on Saturday. The Cougars host Muhlenberg on Friday. 10. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (12-10) – SAME – Wins (Warren East 83-69 & Foundation Christian 77-64), Losses (Grayson Co 82-34) The Raiders opened the week with a pair of wins. Ian Roby led the team with 23 and Harrison Barnett had 21 in the win over Warren East. Thomas Payne led the Raiders with 22 against Foundation Christian. Trinity travels to Cloverport on Tuesday, Evansville Day on Wednesday, Butler County Friday and Crittenden County on Saturday. 11. Breckinridge County Tigers (7-11) – SAME – Wins (S Warren 59-57) & Losses (Owensboro 56-55) The Fighting Tigers bounced back from a tough 1 point loss at Owensboro with their most impressive win of the season over South Warren. Jake Flood led the way with 22. They host Edmonson County on Tuesday before traveling to Cloverport on Friday. They close the week against Warren East at Daviess County on Saturday. 12. Hancock County Hornets (8-9) – SAME – Wins (Tell City, IN 75-62) & Losses (Muhlenberg Co 90-59) The Hornets ended their losing skid with a win over Tell City on Tuesday. Keegan Wilson led the way with 25 while Seth Hunt scored 19. The Hornets host Owensboro on Tuesday before a pair of tough road games against Meade County and Daviess County on Friday and Saturday. 13. Daviess County continued to dominate local competition this week and expect 2 more running clock wins against Butler and Owensboro this week. Grayson County has not lost since the King of the Bluegrass and continue to gel with the addition of Gaither to the roster. They will have a tough challenge against the red hot Owensboro Catholic Aces tonight. Apollo has an interesting week with district games against winless Owensboro and then Owensboro Catholic. The Eagles have not beaten Owensboro since 2018. Ohio County can get within 1 win of a trip to the regional tournament with a district home game against Mclean on Friday. 1. Daviess County Panthers (14-3) – SAME - Wins (Breck Co 74-33 & Apollo 74-51) Daviess County continued to roll through regional competition this week with blowout wins over Breck and Apollo. Jonathan Moss led the team in both wins with 25 against Breck and 31 against Apollo. Michael Acton was great in each win as well with 21 and 17. The Panthers have road games this week at Butler County and Owensboro. 2. Grayson County Cougars (10-4) – SAME - Wins (Madisonville 80-34 & Butler Co 81-50) The Cougars scored 2 blowout wins this week and have now won 7 straight. Jack Logsdon led the team with 20. Logsdon recently went over 2,000 points for his career. Brody Armstrong recently went over 1,000 points and 500 rebounds for his career and led the team with 14 against Butler County. Grayson hosts Owensboro Catholic tonight before traveling to Whitesville for a district matchup on Friday. They close the week against Ensworth TN at Greenwood on Saturday. 3. Owensboro Catholic Aces (11-3) – UP 4 - Wins (Mclean Co 59-32, Meade Co 79-38 & Owensboro 68-35) The Aces have reeled off 8 straight wins. The 3 this week came in impressive fashion. They won the All-A regional title in a running clock win over Mclean County. Jake Murphy led the team with 17. Dylan Hagan followed that up with 22 to help running clock a good Meade County team. On Friday, it was Dremail Carothers leading the way with 14 in a 33 point district win over Owensboro. The Aces have a tough test tonight at Grayson County before traveling to Apollo on Friday. They will wrap up the week Saturday against Kirkwood, TN at Greenwood. 4. Ohio County Eagles (12-2) – SAME – Wins (Muhlenberg Co 67-52) & Losses (Meade County 62-57) The Eagles had their 11 game win streak snapped by Meade County on Friday but scored a big district win over Muhlenberg on Tuesday. Ryan Durahm scored 35 in the win over the Mustangs. Ohio moved to 2-0 in 10th district play and have a leg up in the race for the first round district bye. The Eagles host Madisonville and Mclean County this week. 5. Apollo Eagles (10-3) – SAME - Losses (Daviess Co 74-51) The Eagles fell to Daviess County on Friday. Landon Henning had 17 points and 16 boards in the loss. Apollo has a big week this week, starting tonight at Owensboro. Carter Pike hit 7 3 pointers and led the team with 21 while Ayden Medley chipped in 18. Hayden Shouse scored a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Meade hosts Shelby County on Tuesday before traveling to Cloverport on Wednesday. 7. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (8-6) – DOWN 3 - Losses (Ohio Co 67-52 & Greenwood 77-75) The Mustangs slide continued this week, running their losing streak to 5 games. Gavin Groves continued his nice season in a tough loss against Greenwood with 21 points. Muhlenberg has 4 straight home games this week against Butler County, Apollo, Hancock and Caldwell County. 8. Edmonson County Wildcats (8-4) – SAME – Wins (Logan Co 82-74 2 OT & Trinity 76-71) The Wildcats have won 6 of 7 and scored a nice double overtime win over Logan County. Tyler Wilson led the team with 19 points and 10 boards. Braden Wright had 18 in the win. Edmonson travels to Butler County on Friday in their lone game this week. 9. Mclean County Cougars (11-6) – SAME - Wins (Breck Co 62-61 & Hancock Co 54-36) & Losses (Owensboro Catholic 59-32) Mclean fell to Owensboro Catholic but bounced back with 2 straight regional wins over Breck and Hancock. Layden Bozarth continues to lead the team with 15.7 ppg on the season. The Cougars have a big district game at Ohio on Friday. A loss would all but assure them of having to play their way into the regional tournament. They close the week at home against Crittenden County on Saturday. 10. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (10-9) – SAME – Wins (Hancock Co 50-48), Losses (Edmonson Co 76-71) The Raiders dropped a tough district game against Edmonson on Friday but scored a win over Hancock to open their week. Harrison Barnett leads the team with 13.8 ppg. The Raiders have all 3 games at home this week against Warren East, Foundation Christian and Grayson County. 11. Breckinridge County Tigers (6-10) – SAME - Losses (Daviess 74-33 & Mclean 62-61) The Fighting Tigers have now lost 4 of their last 5. The team has been fighting injuries to key players over the last few weeks. Breck travels to Owensboro on Tuesday before hosting South Warren on Saturday. 12. Hancock County Hornets (7-8) – SAME - Losses (Trinity 50-47 & Mclean 54-36) The Hornets losing streak reached 7 games this past week with losses to Trinity and Mclean. Keegan Wilson had 17 in the loss to the Raiders. They will host Tell City, IN on Tuesday before traveling to Muhlenberg County on Friday. 13. Owensboro Red Devils (0-10) – SAME – Losses (Hopkinsville 46-45 & Catholic 68-35) The Devils rough start continued this week with 2 more losses. Valor Smith led the team with 11 in a tough loss to Hopkinsville. Owensboro seeks their first win this week with home games against Apollo, Breck and Daviess County. 14. Butler County Bears (1-13) – SAME – Losses (Greenwood 74-39 & Grayson Co 81-50) The Bears dropped 2 more games this week. Curtis Murphy and Carson Davis each had 11 in the loss to Greenwood. Butler has a road game at Muhlenberg on Monday before home games against Daviess County and Edmonson County to close the week. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-5) - SAME – Losses (Brown 68-19) The Aces fell to Brown this week. They host Cannelton, IN on Tuesday and Meade County on Wednesday.

Daviess County has proven to be an early season contender for a state championship. They also have one of the favorites for Mr. Basketball in Jonathan Moss. Moss put on a show for the state wide audience at Lexington Catholic this past week. He has decommitted from Chattanooga, as his recruiting has blown up over the past few months. Grayson County recovered nicely from their stumble in the King of the Bluegrass and got a nice top 25 win over Danville Christian. Everything is lining up for another late season showdown between these 2 powerhouses. 1. Daviess County Panthers (12-3) – SAME - Wins (N Laurel 68-47, Boyd Co 86-78 & McCracken 72-62) & Losses (St Joseph, CA 81-70) The Panthers put the state on notice by winning the Lexington Catholic Holiday Tournament last week. In the championship game against Boyd, Jon Moss scored 33, DeAaron Watkins had 30 and 13 and Michael Acton had 18 and 11. Moss again led the way with 20 over McCraken on Saturday and 23 in the loss to St Joseph CA. St Joseph is ranked top 10 in the country by many services. Daviess host a pair of 3rd region games this week against Breck County and Apollo. 2. Grayson County Cougars (8-4) – SAME - Wins (Danville Christian 79-74, Muhlenberg Co 98-74 & Henry Co 91-43) The Cougars have reeled off 5 straight wins since their King of the Bluegrass appearance, including a nice top 25 win over Danville Christian. Brody Armstrong had 30 and scored his 1000th career point. He also pulled his 500th career rebound. Armstrong has upped his season average to 16.2 ppg. Jack Logsdon leads the team with 23.6 ppg and had 20 in the win over Henry County. Grayson has Madisonville and Butler County scheduled this week. 3. Ohio County Eagles (11-1) – SAME – Wins (Hancock Co 61-40, Hart Co 55-40, Whitesville Trinity 73-55 & Union Co 83-49) The Eagles have reeled off 10 straight wins since falling to Grayson County in the second game of the season. They swept games in their Holiday Tournament last week and closed with a win over Union County. Ryan Durham is right at 20 ppg on the year to lead the team in scoring, while Max Hosclaw is scoring 10 a game. Ohio hosts a huge 10th district game against Muhlenberg County on Tuesday before hosting Meade on Friday. 4. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (8-4) – SAME - Losses (Grayson Co 98-74) The Mustangs have now lost 3 straight games following their loss to Grayson County this past week. Gavin Groves leads the team in scoring at 16.8 ppg. Kason Morris is also in double figures at 14 per game. Muhlenberg has a big district game at Ohio on Tuesday before traveling to Greenwood on Saturday. 5. Apollo Eagles (10-2) – SAME - Wins (Daniel Boone, TN 69-44 & Livingston Central 69-44) & Losses (Erie, PA 49-32) The Eagles went 6-1 during the holiday tournament season with their only loss coming to a highly rated PA squad. Landon Henning leads the team with 13.5 points and 14 boards per game. Kayden Green, Carlos Cruz and Tate Powers are all averaging double figures scoring. Apollo travels to Daviess County for a big 9th district showdown on Friday. 6.Meade County Greenwave (6-4) – SAME - Wins (Mclean Co 67-50) & Losses (Lou Eastern 76-67) The Waves split a pair of games last week. They got a nice region win over Mclean and challenged a solid Louisville Eastern squad. Hayden Shouse had 24 and 11 in the win over Mclean before pouring in 31 against Eastern. Shouse is up to 25.4 points per game to lead the region through the first half of the season. Meade has a couple tough 3rd Region road games this week against Owensboro Catholic and Ohio County. 7. Owensboro Catholic Aces (8-3) – SAME - Wins (Whiteville Trinity 74-43 & Hancock Co 63-42) The Aces scored a couple All-A regional tournament wins this week. Braylon Coots lead the team with 17 in the win over Trinity while Jake Murphy led the team with 23 against Hancock. Owensboro Catholic will face Mclean for the All-A Regional Title tonight before hosting Meade on Wednesday. They will open district play against Owensboro on Friday. 8. Edmonson County Wildcats (6-4) – UP 2 – Wins (Kipp Collegiate TN 88-59 & Breck Co 83-73) & Losses (Clinton Co 61-58) The Wildcats went 2-1 in their own holiday tournament last week. In the win over Kipp TN, Tyler Wilson led a balanced attack. Against Breck, Braden Wright poured in 23, while Blayne Deweese had 15 points and 12 boards. Edmonson hosts Logan County on Tuesday and Whitesville Trinity on Friday. 9. Mclean County Cougars (9-5) – DOWN 1 - Wins (Cloverport 66-21) & Losses (Murray 77-57 & Meade Co 67-50) Mclean had a tough week against good competition with losses to Murray and Meade. Camden Baird led the way against Murray with 19 while Layden Bozarth had 21 against Meade. The Cougars will play Owensboro Catholic for the All-A regional title tonight before traveling to Breck on Friday and Hancock on Saturday. 10. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (9-8) – SAME – Wins (Mayfield 53-49, Ballard Memorial 38-34 & New Washington, IN 69-52), Losses (Mclean Co 67-51 & Tecumseh, IN 65-60) The Raiders scored a couple of wins in the Ohio County Holiday Tournament but fell in the All-A Regional Tournament to Owensboro Catholic. Ian Roby and Harrison Barnett each lead the team with 13.8 ppg. Mason Smith is also in double figures with 10.1 per game. Trinity hits the road this week with games against Hancock and Edmonson County. 11. Breckinridge County Tigers (6-8) – DOWN 2 - Wins (Kipp Collegiate 69-45), Losses (Clinton Co 58-42 & Edmonson Co 83-73) The Fighting Tigers dropped 2 of 3 in the Edmonson County Holiday Tournament. Keegan Wilson is the lone Hornet in double figures for the season, with 16.1 ppg. Hancock has a pair of road games this week against Trinity and Mclean County. 13. Owensboro Red Devils (0-8) – SAME – No games this week The Devils seek their first win of the season this week with home games against Hopkinsville and Owensboro Catholic. 14. All eyes are on the Daviess County Panthers this week as they enter the semifinals of the Lexington Catholic Holiday Tournament. The state is getting eyes on Jonathan Moss as he makes his bid for Mr. Basketball. He will be playing opposite of another great candidate in Reece Davidson from North Laurel today. 1. Daviess County Panthers (9-2) – SAME - Wins (Woodford Co 53-50 & Caverna 54-47) Daviess County is playing in the Lexington Catholic Holiday Tournament this week and has scored weekend wins over Woodford and Caverna. Mr. Basketball candidate Jonathan Moss is showcasing his talent for the state to see, scoring 24 in both wins. They will face North Laurel I the semifinals today. 2. Grayson County Cougars (5-4) – SAME - Wins (Shelby Co 80-44 & Waggner 82-75) The Cougars have bounced back from their 3 losses in the King of the Bluegrass with 2 wins in the Henry County Holiday Tournament. They will face Danville Christian for the championship today. WKU commit Jack Logdson had 30 against Waggner and is averaging 23.3 per game on the season. Spencer Langdon led the team in scoring in the win over Shelby County. 3. Ohio County Eagles (7-1) – UP 1 – No Games last week Ohio County hosts the DQ Classic this week with games against Hancock County, Hart County and Whitesville Trinity before traveling to Union County on Saturday. 4. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (8-3) – DOWN 1 - Losses (Adair Co 78-56 & Somerset Christian 80-66) The Mustangs dropped a pair of games to Adair and Somerset Christian in the Bethlehem Holiday Classic this weekend. Gavin Groves leads the team in scoring at 17.1 ppg on the season. Muhlenberg will travel to Grayson County on Friday. 5. Apollo Eagles (8-1) – SAME - Wins (Hialeah FL 72-43) Apollo traveled to Florida for the Hileah Holiday Tournament. Big man Landon Henning had a monster showing, scoring 32 points and pulling 23 boards. The Eagles will have a big test today in Erie PA, who is highly ranked in 6A Pennsylvania basketball. 6.Meade County Greenwave (5-3) – SAME - Wins (Fayette Academy, TN 87-39) & Losses (Beech Senior TN 88-70 & Muhlenberg Co 66-60) The Waves went 1-2 in the South Warren Holiday Classic. Hayden Shouse and Ayden Medley are both off to big starts for Meade. Medley poured in 37 against Fayette and had 34 last week against LKY. Shouse is scoring 25 per game though the first 8 while Medley is at 23.5 per game. The Wave hosts Eastern on Saturday. 7. Owensboro Catholic Aces (6-3) – SAME - Wins (Mayfield 51-49 & Graves Co 57-39) The Aces have won 2 games in the Henderson Holiday Tournament without explosive guard Solly Smith. Dremail Carothers led the way with 16 against Mayfield while Jake Murphy scored 16 against Graves. The Aces have one more game in Henderson before opening All-A play on Friday against Whitesville Trinity. 8. Mclean County Cougars (8-3) – UP 2 - Wins (Valley 57-49, Whitesville Trinity 67-51 & Webster Co 58-52) The Cougars have reeled off 5 straight wins, including an impressive one over previously unbeaten Webster County. Camden Baird led the team with 21 in the win. Layden Bozarth has been impressive through the month of December, averaging 17.4 per game. Mclean looks to keep it going at home Tuesday against 7-2 Murray. 9. Breckinridge County Tigers (5-6) – DOWN 1 - Wins (Ballard Memorial 58-49 & Valley 46-34), Losses (Webster Co 61-50) The Tigers closed the week with a pair of wins over Valley and Ballard Memorial. Jake Flood led the way with 15 against Ballard while sophomore Hawk Amstutz had 17 against Valley. The Tigers travel to Edmonson for their Holiday tournament today against Clinton County. 10. Edmonson County Wildcats (4-3) – DOWN 1 – No games this week The Wildcats host their own Holiday Classic this week with games against Kipp Collegiate, TN, Breck County and Clinton County. 11. Hancock County Hornets (7-2) – SAME - Wins (Tecumseh IN 72-49) & Losses (Tecumseh, IN 78-41) The Hornets split a pair of games against Tecumseh, IN last week. Seth Hunt scored 14 in the win. Hancock travels to Ohio County this week for the DQ Classic with games against Ohio, Whitesville Trinity and Hart County. 12. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (7-6) – SAME – Wins (Mayfield 53-49, Ballard Memorial 38-34 & New Washington, IN 69-52), Losses (Mclean Co 67-51 & Tecumseh, IN 65-60) The Raiders had an active Christmas week, going 3-2. Junior Harrison Barnett led the team in wins over Mayfield and Ballard Memorial with 21 and 13. Trinity travels to Ohio County for games against Hart, Hancock and Ohio County. 13. Owensboro Red Devils (0-8) – SAME - Losses (Carlisle Co 60-58, Springfield, TN 65-57 and Northeast, TN 78-68) The Devils are still seeking their first win of the season. Kade Arnold leads the team with 13.4 ppg while Demarcus Ganaway Jr has entered the lineup, scoring 12 per game in only 4 outings. Owensboro does not have another game scheduled until next Tuesday against Hopkinsville. 14. Grayson County was featured in the King of the Bluegrass this past week, but it was an unsuccessful trip to Fairdale for the Cougars. While they were without the services of Jager Mardis, Grayson still hoped for a better showing. Daviess County has put some distance between the two in the early season standings. Muhlenberg County stayed undefeated and Ohio County had a nice week with regional wins over Mclean, Apollo and Breck County. 1. Moss led the way with 24 against Heritage Hills. 24 per game is right on Moss's season average. Against Somerset Christian, Moss again led the way with 27 while Michael Acton had a double-double with 21 and 10. DeAaron Watkins also got in the act this week with 27 points and 13 rebounds against Henderson. Daviess heads to Lexington Catholic for a game against Woodford on Saturday. 2. Grayson County Cougars (3-4) – SAME - Loses (North Oldham 73-63, Warren Central 61-58 & Louisville Trinity 76-63) The Cougars had a tough showing in the King of the Bluegrass, losing all 3 matchups. They were without the services of high scoring guard, Jager Mardis for the weekend. Jack Logdsdon showed well in the tournament, scoring 29 against North Oldham and 22 vs Warren Central. Grayson is scheduled to take on Shelby County this weekend at Henry Count High School 3. Ivan Sparks had another double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. The Mustangs have Glasgow on Monday before Adair County in the Bethlehem Classic this weekend. 4. Ohio County Eagles (7-1) – UP 1 - Wins (Mclean Co 50-41, Apollo 61-48, Rock Creek IL 66-46 & Breck Co 59-46) The Eagles had a nice week, going 4-0. They scored a big district win over Mclean County to open district play. Max Holsclaw led the way with 15. Against Apollo, Ryan Durham was tough, scoring 27. Ohio finished the week strong with nice wins over Rock Creek and Breck County. The Eagles do not have a game on the schedule this week 5. Apollo Eagles (7-1) – DOWN 1 - Wins (Butler Co 74-44, Elizabethtown 81-52, Ballard Memoral 58-39) & Loss (Ohio Co 61-48) Apollo suffered its first loss of the season on the road in Ohio County this week, but picked up 3 wins, including 2 in the Eagle Classic. They placed 5 in double figures against Elizabethtown, including a double-double from Landon Henning 10 and 15 rebounds. Carlos Cruz continues to emerge for Apollo, as he led the way with 15. Kaiden Green had 20 to lead Apollo over Ballard Memorial. As a team, Apollo is very balanced, placing 4 players in double figures on the season. They will head to Daytona Beach following Christmas. 6.Meade County Greenwave (4-1) -UP 2- Wins (Bullitt East 76-68 & LKY Home School 93-66) Hayden Shouse had 35 & 22 in wins this week, while Ayden Medley had 27 and 34. The Waves look to keep it rolling this week against Beech Senior, TN at South Warren on Monday. 7. Owensboro Catholic Aces (2-2) – DOWN 2 - Wins (Union Co 80-41) & Losses (South Warren 72-60) The Aces up and down start continued this week, splitting a pair of games. In the win over Union, they placed 5 players in double figures, led by 14 from Solly Smith. They will open the week in Princeton, IN before heading to the Henderson Holiday Tournament after Christmas. 8. Breckinridge County Tigers (3-5) – DOWN 1 - Wins (Hancock Co 62-52), Losses (Grayson Co 83-63 & Ohio Co 59-46) The Tigers moved to 3-0 in 11th district play with a win over Hancock this week. Jake Flood led the way with 14. Jonah Miller and Ryan Nottingham also added double figure scoring in the win. Breck is scheduled to play Webster County at Mclean on Monday. 9. Edmonson County Wildcats (4-3) – SAME - Wins (Ft Knox 77-36 & Warren East 87-67) Brandon Wright led the way with 17 in the win over Ft Knox. Tyler Wilson still leads the Cats in scoring at 14 ppg but had been battling injury. Edmonson hosts their own Holiday Tournament after Christmas next week. 10. Mclean County Cougars (5-3) – UP 1 - Wins (Butler Co 69-49 & Owensboro 53-46) & Losses (Ohio Co 50-41) Mclean fell to 0-2 in early season 10th district play but bounced back with a pair of nice 3rd region wins. Hancock County Hornets (6-1) – DOWN 1 - Wins (Cloverport 84-15) & Losses (Breck Co 62-52) The Hornets split a pair of district games this week. On the season, they are led by Keegan Wilson's 17.6 ppg. In the win over Cloverport, Sophomore Nolan Maxwell led the way with 13. Hancock heads to Tecumseh, IN after Christmas for their holiday tournament. 12. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (4-4) – SAME - Losses (Daviess Co 70-19 & Dawson Springs 69-57) After a hot start, the Raiders have now lost 4 of their last 5. They are being led by Junior Ian Roby's 14.3 ppg. They travel to Mclean County on Monday to take on Mayfield. After Christmas, they will travel to Tecumseh, IN for their holiday tournament. 13. Owensboro Red Devils (0-5) – SAME - Losses (Muhlenberg Co 76-61, Greenwood 88-67 & Mclean Co 53-46) Owensboro is off to a rough start, as they are still looking for their first win. The football kids are still looking to settle into the roster. The Devils play Carlisle County on Friday at Logan County. 14. Butler County Bears (0-8) – SAME - Losses (Russellville 49-46, Apollo 74-44, Mclean Co 69-49 & Somerset Christian 81-67) The rebuild for the Bears is off to a rough start. Curtis Murphy leads the team with 17.4 ppg but he is the only player on the team scoring in double figures. Butler heads to Mclean County on Monday to take on Ballard Memorial before traveling to Bethlehem next weeend to take on Nelson County. 15. While you can expect the top 2 teams in the 3rd to remain the same through the season, the race between the teams behind them should be fun to watch. Muhlenberg County had put a good foot forward early in the season with 5 straight wins out of the gate. Apollo, Ohio County and Owensboro Catholic will be jockeying for top 5 spots early on. District races in the 10th and 11th will also be fun to watch all season. Meanwhile, back at the top, Grayson County has a nice opportunity to show how they stack up against state competition in the King of the Bluegrass this week. They will open with North Oldham and then face St X or Warren Central depending on how the first round goes. Lastly, keep an eye on Jonathan Moss and his bid for Mr. Basketball. Moss is off to a great start with big games against great competition in GRC, Spire Academy and ABQ Prep. 1. Daviess County Panthers (3-2) – SAME - Wins (Edmonson Co 89-56, Owensboro 72-42), Losses (Spire Academy OH 73-66) Daviess County have handled in state competition well, as their two defeats have come at the hands of highly touted prep schools. They scored region wins over Edmonson and Owensboro this past week. Jonathan Moss poured in 31 against Edmonson, 19 against Owensboro and 28 against Spire. At 25.4 ppg he is showing he is a true Mr. Basketball candidate. Michael Acton is at 16.4 ppg through the first 5, while DeAaron Watkins is scoring 15 and pulling 13 boards per contest. The Panthers have 4 games this week against Trinity, Henderson, Somerset and Heritage Hills, IN. 2. Grayson County Cougars (2-1) – SAME - Wins (Ohio Co 89-58 & Edmonson Co 85-64) The Cougars scored 2 region wins this week, including a 12 district win over Edmonson County. Against Ohio, Jagger Mardis and Jack Logsdon each scored 24 while Brody Armstrong had 20. In the win over Edmonson, Mardis led the way with 23. Logsdon followed him with 21 points and 10 boards. Armstrong again had 20. There is word around Grayson County that the Gaither kids have moved in and will look to get eligible for the second semester. Time will tell if that pans out, but if it does, it would give the Cougars another big time scorer. It will be something to monitor to start the new year. In the meantime, Grayson heads to the King of the Bluegrass this weekend. They open play against North Oldham. Before making the trip, they face Breck County on Tuesday. 3. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (5-0) – UP 3 - Wins (Warren East 89-58, Mclean Co 57-40 & Owensboro Catholic 82-72) The Mustangs have broke well out of the gate of the 25/26 season. Not only are they 5-0 but their average margin of victory is 19 per game. Kason Morris has led the Stangs early on. He scored 21 against Warren East and put up a monster double-double against Owensboro Catholic Saturday, scoring 27 and pulling 14 boards. Gavin Groves is scoring 15 per game though the first 5 while Ivan Sparks is right at a double-double average with 11 and 9. Muhlenberg hosts Owensboro on Tuesday. 4. Apollo Eagles (4-0) – DOWN 1 - Wins (Whitesville Trinity 63-60 & Paducah Tilghman 74-65) Apollo stayed unbeaten this week, picking up wins over Trinity and Paducah Tilghman. The Eagles have been very balanced to start the season. Against Trinity they were led by Tate Powers 13 points. Butterworth and Henning chipped in 12 each, while Kaiden Green scored 10. Apollo hosts the Eagle Classic this weekend with games scheduled against Etown and Ballard Memorial. Before that, they will face Butler County and Ohio County in regional action. 5. Ohio County Eagles (3-1) – UP 2 - Wins (Franklin Simpson 74-48 & Owensboro 58-34) & Losses (89-58 Grayson County) The Eagles have played one bad half of basketball so far thus season and it cost them against Grayson County on Tuesday. They bounced back with 2 wins to close the week. In the win over Franklin Simpson, they went 13-28 from beyond the arc. Through the first 4 games, the Eagles are shooting it 44% from 3. Owensboro Catholic Aces (1-1) – DOWN 1 - Wins (Butler Co 91-41) & Losses (Muhlenberg Co 82-72) The Aces put 5 in double figures in their season opener at Butler County. Jake Murphy led the way with 22. Solly Smith had 18 and Gavin Brasher had 17. Zander Reisz and Braylon Coots each had 10. Saturday, The Aces got their football players back on the floor but fell just short against Muhlenberg. Coots led the way with 21, while Dremail Carothers had a double-double with 15 and 10. The Aces have Union County and South Warren scheduled this week. 7.Meade County Greenwave (2-1) -DOWN 3 - Wins (Lanesville, IN 74-44) & Losses (Breck Co 80-76) Hayden Shouse is off to a great start for the Waves, as he is scoring 24 per game and pulling 9 boards through the first 3 games. Ayden Medley is right at 16 ppg to open the season. Meade suffered a tough district setback to Breck County on Friday but will look to get back in the win column with games against Bullitt East and Beech Senior, TN this week. 8. Breckinridge County Tigers (2-3) – UP 3 - Wins (Meade Co 80-76), Losses (Nelson Co 82-75) The Tigers up and down start took a nice turn on Friday with a district win over Meade County. The 11th is wide open and the Tigers struck first with the big win. Jake Flood led the way with 29 while Benjamin Grimes and Jonah Miller scored 21 and 19. Breck will look to build on that momentum with regional games against Grayson County, Hancock County and Ohio County this week. 9. Edmonson County Wildcats (2-3) – DOWN 1 - Losses (Daviess Co 89-56, Grayson Co 85-64 & Barren Co 75-56) It was a tough week for the Cats against a very tough schedule. They lost leading scorer Tyler Wilson in the game against Daviess County with an ankle injury. They will look to bounce back this week with road games against Ft Knox and Barren County. 10. Hancock County Hornets (5-0) – UP 3 - Wins (John Hardin 69-62 & Ft Knox 66-33) Hancock stayed hot this week with a nice road win over John Hardin. Keegan Wilson scored 32 on 64% shooting. Wilson leads the Hornets with 19 ppg. Taylor Payne and Seth Hunt are also scoring in double figures through the first 5 games. Hancock has 11th district road games against Cloverport and Breck County this week. 11. Mclean County Cougars (3-2) – DOWN 2 - Wins (Dawson Springs 51-45 & Evansville Day 61-34) & Losses (Webster Co 87-84 Double OT & Muhlenberg Co 57-40) Mclean Co has had an up and down start to the season, splitting 4 games this past week. Camden Baird led the Cougars with 24 in the win over Dawson Springs. In the tough double overtime loss against Webster, Mclean placed 4 in double figures. Layden Bozarth had 27, Baird 21 and Braxton Floyd 20. Jaelin Groves had a double-double with 15 and 11. The Cougars look to avoid an 0-2 start in district play with a home game against Ohio on Tuesday before playing Butler Co and Owensboro at the Sportscenter this weekend. 12. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (4-2) – UP 2 - Wins (Butler Co 80-57), Losses (Apollo 63-50) The Raiders split a pair of games this week. In the big district win over Butler County, Ian Roby poured in 23 points to lead the way. Harrison Barnett had 21. Mason Smith and Thomas Payne were both in double figures against Butler and Apollo. Trinity has games against Daviess County and Dawson Springs this week. 13 .Owensboro Red Devils (0-2) – DOWN 3 - Losses (Daviess Co 72-42 & Ohio Co 58-34) The Devils had several questions around the roster entering the season and through their first week, there are still several questions. They were not very competitive in their regional games this week. Expect the football kids to return to the floor this week in games against Muhlenberg County, Greenwood and Mclean County. 14. Butler County Bears (0-4) – DOWN 2 - Losses (Owensboro Catholic 91-41, Logan County 74-64 & Whitesville Trinity 80-57) After losing the strongest core of seniors in Butler County history, the Bears are off to an expected slow start. Curtis Murphy is the only player returning with much varsity experience. He leads the team with 17 ppg. Junior Cainan Vincent is scoring in double figures as well, at 11 ppg. The Bears seek their first win this week with games against Russellville, Apollo, Mclean and Somerset Christian. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-1) - Losses (95-21 Breck County) The Aces seek their first win of the season with games against Hancock and Hopkinsville Heritage this week.

Going all the way back to all the questions about OHS’s hiring practices and how long it took and everyone questioning the hire… guess those questions are answered now. I couldn’t be happier for Coach Ganaway in his first season. Shoutout to all the Devils fans here who finally get some due! This team was 4-5 TD better than anyone in 5A. That’s crazy to me. To the folks that are expecting a fall off without Hampton, I think you’ll be sadly mistaken. Feels more like OHS is about to go on run to me. Congrats Devils!!

Consistent pressure. That was the difference. Congrats to LCA! They controlled the front. I thought Catholic fought their tails off considering. Getting the ball back with a shot late is about all you could ask for. That onsides kick was so close. Would have loved to have seen the Aces recover that. Considering they were without JP Carrico, Jude Cecil AND Miles Edge, the performance was pretty impressive. Losing 20 seniors will hurt OC but that sophomore class is special. They’ll still be solid up front on the OL but will have to prove it at WR and on D. With their culture, I wouldn’t be shocked if they aren’t right back there again next season.

Basketball season quietly kicked off this week. With 2 Owensboro schools playing for Football state titles this past week, tip-off week was slightly overshadowed. That said, it was a very successful week overall for the top 10. Daviess County and Grayson County both open the season checking in several different Top 25's around the state. 1. Daviess County Panthers (1-0) - Wins (George Rogers Clark 64-52) The Panthers opened their season with a hard fought loss in what we will call an exhibition game against Albuquerque Prep. Moss scored an impressive 30 points in the game that will not count against Daviess's in season record. They went on the road on Saturday and scored a win at George Rogers Clark. Michael Acton and Moss led the way with 19 each while DeAron Watkins scored 18 and pulled an impressive 23 boards. DC has games against Edmonson, Owensboro and Spire Academy OH this week. 2. Grayson County Cougars (0-0) Grayson County opened their season in the Marshall County Hoopfest with a great showing against Woodward Academy but it is not listed as an official KHSAA game. They fell 77-72 but showed very well in the loss. Spencer Langdon scored 23 while Jack Logsdon scored 21. Brody Armstrong and Jager Mardis were also in double figures scoring. They will officially open their season against Ohio County and Edmonson this week. 3. Apollo Eagles (2-0) -W (Christian Co 64-46 & Ballard Memorial 81-42) The Eagles opened season with 2 blowout wins this week. Landon Henning posted a double double with 17 points and 14 boards in the win over Christian. Kayden Green added 16 and Tate Powers 10 in the win. Powers put up 23 in the win over Ballard Memorial while Green and Eli Williams also scored in double figures. Apollo has games against Whitesville Trinity and Paducah Tilghman this week. 4.Meade County Greenwave (1-0) - Wins (Floyd Central, IN 62-60) The Waves opened the season with a real nice win against a good Floyd Central team. Hayden Shouse led the way with 25 while Ayden Medley chipped in 16. They will host Breck County this Friday to open district play. 5. Owensboro Catholic Aces (0-0) The Aces open their season this week with a pair of road games at Butler County and Muhlenberg County. 6. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (2-0) - Wins (66-38 Todd Central & 56-46 Logan County) Muhlenberg County got off to a great start this week with wins over Todd Central and Logan County. No stats were reported from the wins. They have games against Warren East, Mclean County and Owensboro Catholic this week. 7. Ohio County Eagles (1-0) - Wins (77-52 Breck County) Ohio started their season red hot from 3 point land in their win over Breck County. Ryan Durham had 25 to lead the Eagles while Alex Quisenberry scored 21 with 7 3 pointers. The Eagles have 3 games this week against Grayson, Franklin Simpson and Owensboro. 8. Edmonson County Wildcats (2-0) - Wins (73-58 Campbellsville & 88-60 Cumberland County) The Cats scored 2 nice wins to open their season this week. Blayne Deweese led the way against Campbellsville. They will look to stay hot with a tough week against Daviess County, Grayson County and Barren County. 9. Mclean County Cougars (1-0) - Wins (65-49 Doss) Coach Lynam and the Cougars got their season off to a good start with a win over Doss. They have 3 road games this week at Dawson Springs, Webster County and Muhlenberg County. 10 .Owensboro Red Devils (0-0) It has been Football season for the Devils up until this past Saturday night. They will kick off basketball season this week against Daviess County and Ohio County. 11. Breckinridge County Tigers (1-2) - Wins (95-21 Cloverport), Losses (77-52 Ohio County & 83-67 Greenwood) Returner Jonah Miller leads the team in scoring through the first 3, averaging 18 points per game. The Tigers will look to stack some wins this week with games against Nelson County and Meade County. 12. Butler County Bears (0-1) - Losses (75-57 South Warren) The new era of Bears basketball kicked off this past week with a loss to South Warren. Curtis Murphy led the way with 19. Butler will look to get in the win column this week with games against Owensboro Catholic, Logan County and Whitesville Trinity. 13. Hancock County Hornets (3-0) - Wins (76-23 Cannelton, 74-43 Brown, 78-50 Todd County Central) Coach Roberts has the Hornets off to a great start with 3 big wins. Taylor Payne is scoring right at 16 a game and Keegan Wilson 14. They will look to keep it rolling against John Hardin and Fort Knox this week. 14. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (3-1) - Wins (60-39 Knights Christian, 61-34 Cornerstone Christian & 58-51 Whitefield Academy), Losses (63-47 Somerset Christian) Coach West and the Raiders opened the season with a lot of success in the KCAC tournament. Ian Roby, Harrison Barnett and Mason Smith all scored in double figures in the win over Knights Christian. They will take a step up in competition this week against Apollo and Butler County. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-1) - Losses (95-21 Breck County) The Aces seek their first win of the season with games against Hancock and Hopkinsville Heritage this week.

On paper, this looks to be the best game of the weekend. Both teams have flashed very impressive performances in the post season. Owensboro Catholic blew me away with their effort against Beechwood a week ago. LCA did the same in round 3 against Mayfield and doubled down on that with a hard fought win against Belfry. This is a true championship matchup. Can the Aces OL control the line of scrimmage like they did last week? Can their defense force LCA to string together 8-10 play scoring drives like they did to Beechwood last week? If they can accomplish both of those tasks, I believe they get the job done. Easier said than done. LCA is so physical, it will be a great test. Feels like this one is a total toss up but I will roll with Dre'Mail Carothers and Miles Edge to find a way to get the Aces their first state championship. Owensboro Catholic 38 - LCA 35

I really do not want to disrespect Pulaski here, but it just feels like the Red Devils year. Everything on paper last week pointed to them boat racing Woodford, and they went out and did it. I somewhat expect the same result this week. Again, Owensboro is the most complete team statistically and it is not really close. I have a hard time seeing a path for Pulaski. Unless they can force some turnovers and grind the clock on every possession, it is going to be tough. Their defense gave up some monster numbers in games against Corbin, Johnson Central, S Warren and Bell County. I would say the Devils are very comparable to those teams. Evan Hampton has 914 total yards and 13 TD in this playoff run alone. He is averaging 15 yards per carry. If you want to stack everyone against him, you have to contend with a 70% passer in Demarcus Jr. Singling Dillard is equally as dangerous as not stacking the box against Hampton. Flip it over to the other side of the ball and newcomer Kobe Pullom is coming off a dominating performance with 14 tackles from the DT spot against Woodford. Him along with Muster and Clark on the line are a handful. Then at the second level you have Ty Ashley with several big time division 1 offers. Eli Hampton is another animal at LB. Kindle and Roney are tremendous in run support. Coach Ganaway has been so impressive in his first season at the helm for Owensboro. He's pushed all the right buttons since that 0-2 start. I expect Owensboro to hoist their first trophy since 1986 on Saturday. Owensboro 42 - Pulaski 7

He improves every single week and the performance against a great Beechwood defense was his most impressive outing of the season. They way he survey's the entire field is impressive. Spreading it to 6 different targets with 4 of them having 4 or more grabs, shows his ability to go through his reads. If he can duplicate that performance at Kroger, I like the Aces chances this week.

OCath put up 500 total yards of offense with Carothers going 26-34 355 and 2TD. Miles Edge was right at 140 yds rushing. Tell the Truth nailed it. The OL for the Aces completely dominated up front. They did it without JP Carrico who missed the game. Shoutout to Masterson, Hamilton, French, French and Adams for an incredible effort last night!

We’ve been saying for a month or so that Owensboro was easily the most complete team in 5A and they are proving it right now. The Devils completely dominated a really good football team in Woodford. Coach Ganaway has done an incredible job in his first season. Evan Hampton is a real deal Mr Football candidate. It’s pick your poison with the Owensboro offense. The defense doesn’t get talked about nearly enough. Tons of respect for Pulaski but it sure looks like it’s the Devils year. Congrats to OHS nation on the trip to Kroger. We’ll see ya Saturday!

What a GREAT ballgame. Going in I fully expected Beechwood to be 2TD better but I underestimated the heart of the Aces. Being without JP Carrico and still dominating the LOS was big time. Hats off to Andy Adams for stepping into some big shoes. Dre’mail Carothers looked like a division 1 level QB all night long. The Aces defense answered the bell all night long and showed a ton of fight even with a VERY questionable PI to extend the game with no time. I was also left scratching my head a the onside kick being blown dead when Sims had a ton of daylight to run. It all worked out in the end, but it got a lot closer than it should have. Hats off to Beechwood. They never quit fighting. Queen played a great game and the Fryman kid is an absolute stud. Every single time he touched the ball, you had to hold your breath. Great season from the Tigers. Now it’s on to Kroger for the Aces where I expect they’ll be underestimated again next week. Coach Morris and his staff do an excellent job! I couldn’t be happier for them.

I can tell you that Beechwood certainly earned the Aces respect last year. In talking with Coach Morris and this years group of seniors, they know it’s going to be a very tough task tomorrow. They know that Beechwood has the talent to take advantage of every little mistake they could possibly make and will need to be hyper focused to have a shot. Safe travels to Tigers fans tomorrow.
