  1. Notes from the Houston Chronicle today: ** Hirsh (1-2), making his third major league start, gave up 10 runs, nine hits (including two homers) and five walks in just 2 2/3 innings. His biggest mistake might have been not hanging around long enough to address reporters, which didn't sit well with many of his teammates. ** "The downside about the whole outing was giving up Hirsh's runs," Borkowski said. "I hate that. I hate giving up someone else's runs. I made a decent pitch to Encarnacion, and he got a hit. About the worst pitch I've made all year, to Dunn, and he crushed it." ** From Lance Berkman: "I still believe we have the best starting pitching in the division, and I still believe we have enough offense and the bullpen is going to be solid. I still think we have the guys. Does that mean it's going happen? I have no idea. What I'm trying to say is we have the guys to do it." ** Berkman on the Reds: "The way those guys are playing now, they have to be the favorite," Lance Berkman said, referring to the wild-card race. "They're a very resilient team. They're playing better as a team than they are individually. They have a knack of winning baseball games. That's something special you can't put your finger on." Lance Berkman may be my favorite non-Red in baseball -- he could play for me anytime.
  2. You HAVE to love that effort. 14-0 and Freel is laying out.
  3. CovCath has 50 kids (or thereabouts) on it's freshman team, but I have no idea where the talent level is at this point.
  4. Dear Jason LaRue, I have 3 hits; this is easy. Love, Kyle Lohse
  5. Ouch, that's too bad for a great young man. Oh well, just to get there right out of high school is super. He'll get other chances down the road.
  6. EL GRANDE DONKEY ..............John Kruk on ESPN Baseball Tonight
  7. Dunn hits one 5 rows from the top in right -- 12-0 Redlegs. Berkman, Dunn's buddy, didn't move a muscle (except to turn his head to see where it ended up).
  8. Phillips was going to 3rd on a botched sac attempt by Kyle Lohse (he got the bunt down and the Astros were confused, BP was trying to go first to third) he beat the ball by a mile. However, Huff had his foot in the way and Phillips had his hand on Huff's foot. By the time he re-positioned his hand the ball was there and he was tagged out. At first blush it looked like the worst call in baseball history, however, upon slo-mo replay, it was a great call by CB Buckner.
  9. Was Taveras playing in Newport? He couldn't have been 5 steps off the track.
  10. Raise your hand if you're shocked. p.s. -- my hand is NOT raised.
  11. Pretty much, unless I can stumble into Hat Trick. :thumb:
  12. My 16 month old son will be making his CovCath debut.
  13. Old skinny lefty (Michalak [sp?]) versus old fat lefty (Wells)....how could we go wrong either way?
  14. CovCath -- I'd like to see them start a home and home with Trinity and Lexington Catholic. Further, I'd like to see them play a Dunbar or a Henry Clay. I'd like to see them drop back to only one GCL school per year (although with the current coach, I know that's doubtful) and add a GMC school to the mix (Anderson, Mason, Lakota West, etc.).
  15. Welcome to the site. I think Glen Este wins this one by a bunch. 28+.
  16. Ladies and Gentleman, your 2007 and 2008 District Champs....The Beechwood Tigers.
  17. I don't think Norris Hopper playing once or twice a week is a bad thing.
  18. How about if we just agree to sit Junior versus Lefties? Can we all agree on that? He is hitting .195 this year against lefties (26 for 133). Since the All-Star Break he is hitting .116 against lefties (5 for 43). Maybe he's just worn out, both mentally and physically (dealing with his parents, playing everyday, etc.) and perhaps a day off or two per week would keep him fresh and get him re-energized.
  19. Interesting stat #2: Last night was the 5th time this year the Reds have won a game after trailing by 3 or more runs in the 8th inning or later. They lead the Majors in that category. That number, 5 times, also ties the Franchise record set back in 2000.
  20. No worries. He has so much talent UKMF, and I know he wants to be on a winner, I just wish he would occasionally give the impression that he was busting his tail. Dunn hit that chopper down the line tonight and hustled to 2nd, my phone rang, buddy says "Griff would still be standing at first." He was right. All we can ask is that you leave it out there, bust it to beat out the double play, and give good AB's. I realize that the expectations on him are high, but the stand-off-ishness combined with the aura of "I will only bat 3rd," leave a lot of folks with bad tastes in their mouths.
  21. Name calling? Is that your move? "Never happy fans?" I'm happy frequently, thanks. Narron and the brass are afraid to ruffle his prima donna feathers and refuse to move him out of the 3 spot. Are they as much to blame, yes. However, when you clearly are not pulling your weight, step up and volunteer to move down in the order. I'm not alone here, this has been a hot topic in this city for weeks -- moving Junior down. I just don't get it. He should be hitting 5th or 6th, but Narron isn't stepping up to move him and he isn't stepping up to offer (no, it isn't his job to step up and say move me down, but the aura he has created about wanting to hit 3rd has partially created this situation). Oh well. As long as he stays "comfortable", why would I / we complain.
  22. If it makes you feel better, I wasn't "supporting him" before any of this. Like I said, go be with them. I've had a loved one pass, and I wanted to be with them as much as possible -- I get it. I was a Reds' fan LONG before Junior was with them and will be one LONG after he's not one, so that has no bearing on this. If you are unable to do your job due to family issues (again, we all would support that), then go be with them until it would no longer be a distraction. Effort isn't asking much, is it?
