  1. I live about 30 minutes from WKU and I went to some of the finals the first few years it was there. Usually went to see the 4A title game (since FS is in 4A) and whatever other games were played the same day. Last few years I just watched them online except when FS played this year. I would have gone to more games had they not been available online. Won't make much difference to me because I'll still go to UK if FS makes it back there, but won't go otherwise. Does anyone know if attendance has dropped since the games have become available to watch on the internet?
  2. Smith family as in the county seat, Smithland, is named for them? Or is that a coincidence? I used to drive a truck and went through Livingston County on Hwy 60 from time to time. Very pretty place.
  3. Plus he threw a TD pass against FS in the semifinals. Made a good play after a bad snap. I was impressed with how he handled that play, a lot of high school players might have panicked and turned it over in that situation
  4. Highlands beat Franklin-Simpson 3 times- 1975,1982 and 2011
  5. If Hoptown wins district 1 and FS wins district 2 and if both get to the region finals, Hoptown would host next year being an odd numbered year. Winner would host state semi-final. Allen Co. returns their QB but he had a bad knee injury. Hopefully he will be able to play next year. If so, I expect them to give FS a harder time in 2017. What about Madisonville? Their talent level seems to fluctuate a lot but about every five years or so they seem to have a really good team. Two years ago they played eventual state runner-up Owensboro to a one-point game in the region final I believe.
  6. What became of TJ and Flaget? What schools now serve the areas where they were?
  7. You're right. Looks like Mayfield would probably face the winner of Beechwood vs. Danville

  13. I may try to do that tonight. I was surprised by where a few of the teams would be such as BG being in 4A.
  14. FS needs to find 5 or 6 300-pounders before we would have much hope of beating JC. I do think FS could return to the finals though with the returning players.
  15. In this scenario, current 4A teams and the smaller half of 5A teams would be in 3A. Owensboro would be the best team in the west in the smaller half of what is currently 5A. (Christian County would be in 4A.) FS and Owensboro this year would have been a good game I think.
  16. Well it would be Beechwood vs. Mayfield probably in 1A west semis. Recent history says Mayfield wins but it could have been different this year.
  17. 221 teams were counted in the most recent reclassification. If 55 teams were placed in 4A, 3A, and 2A and 56 in 1A, and not allowing anyone to play up a class, this year's finals could have been like this: 4A: Bowling Green (smallest team in 4A) vs. Trinity (assuming Trinity would be in region 3) 3A: Franklin-Simpson or Owensboro vs. Johnson Central 2A: CAL vs. Belfry 1A: Mayfield vs. Danville (one of the biggest teams in 1A)
  18. Well Mayfield might have still been 1A though
  19. Bowling Green and Highlands would have had some classic battles in the last few years in the old 3A. Johnson Central would likely have played BG this year in the old 3A setup. Louisville Central probably benefited as much as anybody under the new 6 class system. Belfry and Mayfield would have met in the finals a few times recently in the old 2A setup.
  20. FS loses some important players but we had a lot of juniors and sophomores playing last night too. Wouldn't surprise me to see a rematch next year in the finals, but I'm sure Hopkinsville and John Hardin will have something to say about that. South Warren is moving up to 5A next year.
  21. So does Highlands have more state title appearances than Trinity?
  22. So far we have Mayfield and NewCath with 9 apiece.
  23. After last night, Franklin-Simpson has been state runner-up 6 times. Don"t know who has the most runner-up finishes by I am curious. Maybe not a record anyone wants, but who has it? At least it shows an ability to make it to the last game.
