Halftime FS 42-0. Monroe outplayed FS the first 10 minutes but a goal line stand seemed to ignite the FS defense. Monroe backup QB would start for a lot of teams.

Last year the Wildcats started off with Portland, TN and won 46-0. Probably would have beaten them by about the same margin had they played them Friday. Much better opponent to start this year. Wildcats may take some more lumps early but have the tools to go deep in the playoffs again if their heads are in the right place. Monroe will not be a cakewalk by any means. If FS is ready to play, they should win. If not, they will come home with another loss. When Dion Pearson returns, the defense will be much better. Hard to play as well without your best player.

Etown may be playing at UK in December. They are very fast and experienced. Can run and pass and play defense. I think FS will wind up being pretty good, may take a while to come together. They made several good plays on defense but were fooled by Etown's misdirection plays several times. FS seems a step slower than usual or maybe Etown and Western last week were just that fast.

Final Elizabethtown wins 55-23

Etown 41-16 end of 3rd. Passing game opening up the running game for the Panthers. Becherer is the man for Etown. 2 long TD runs, a great TD catch, and stripped the ball from the FS runner once on defense. FS defense has its hands full. Etown is going to win a lot of games.

Halftime Etown 21-16. 3 turnovers by FS in first half. Also fumbled on Etown 6 yard line. Etown passing game hurting FS.

I think Western will be moving up this list as the season progresses. They have really good speed and a quick-strike capability. Burned FS a couple of times last night. FS rarely faces a team faster than they are but I think Western was a little faster overall.

Varsity portion ended at 8:17 in 4th quarter. FS dressed about 60 players for this game, the most in a long time. Western dressed about 30. No kickoff or punt returns allowed in the scrimmage. FS run defense looked very good. Offense looked pretty good running and passing. Western had good team speed. Their passing game is good if the QB can get time to throw. They had a couple of 80 yard TD passes. They impressed me.

Franklin-Simpson scrimmages at Western this Friday. Will be interesting to see where these two teams stand early.

Franklin-Simpson won their first four playoff games that year by a combined score of 164-7. They lost to Breathitt County 42-35 in double overtime in the AA state title game. FS had leads of 14-0 and 28-20 in the title game before Breathitt rallied to tie the game late. FS also gave Bowling Green its closest game of the year, a 13-12 regular season win by the Purples at BG.

So after PRP won the state baseball title today, FS was put out of the playoffs by the eventual state champion in football (4A Johnson Central in the state title game), boys basketball (Bowling Green in the 4th Region semifinals) and baseball (Pleasure Ridge Park in the first round of the state tournament). So proud of the Franklin-Simpson class of 2017. One of the best all-around classes of athletes in school history.

Why do they not have sectional tournaments anymore? Used to be that the champs of Regions 1-4, 5-8, etc. would play a tournament one weekend and then the four sectional champs went to Lexington for the Final Four.
