Nice win for Trinity over a top-ranking MO team. Goal by All-State defender Drew Goetz. Assist #18 (to go with 10 goals) by Greg Fischer. Fischer has a goal or assist in every game Trinity has played in this year except in their sole loss of the year to Male (when Trinity got blanked 1-0). Could Greg Fischer give Trinity back-to-back-to-back KY Gatorade POY winners? Anyone know where he's committed to play in college?

Dylan Geiman scored a great free kick goal from 20 yards out for Brossart midway through the first half. Colton Wagoner scored in the second half for Highlands on a 35 yard ball off a free kick served to the back post that proved difficult for Hildreth to handle on a wet night. Brossart had much better chances first half; second half was more even.

So who is the best dark horse out of Region 9? Other 5han NCC, NDA and HHS, who could make that 3 game run for Region 9 champ? Will someone other than the eight projected in the original post be playing in Regionals?

Three teams may get a shot at CCH. Holy Cross will be on the other side of the bracket and will likely be gone by the finals. That means CCH would have to get by 3 out of the following likely pool of 6: NCC, HHS, St Henry, Dixie, and whixhever two comes out of Ryle/Conner/Boone/Cooper. Chances are good CCH can put together a three game run of wins to get out of Region 9, but everyone will be gunning for them

I think Carroll County might have dropped out also? Last year at least two teams dropped the week before the tournament. It would be nice if teams either declined to play in the tournament if they don't have enough players or did not schedule Varsity games on the Saturday of JV Regionals if they have so many shared players between JV and Varsity that they can't be two places at once.

Conner beats HHS in PKs after 2-2 tie in regulation. Conner played with a ton of heart and desire to get a nice win. Scott dropped out of tournament so Conner goes direct to semi-finals. Best of luck to the Cougars tomorrow.

I think Ryle might be a litle lower and Boone maybe a little higher. Otherwise looks about right to me.

Region 8 is tough? I'd think South Oldham would be the main stumbling block for Oldham County and OC already beat them once this year. Or were you talking about another Region?

I give the winner of District 36 a slight advantage in Regionals. Assuming NDA wins District 35, NDA and the 2nd place finisher in District 36 have a 33% chance of meeting in round 1 of Regionals. The winner of District 36 can't see NDA until round 2 and can't see the 2nd place District 36 team until/unless they both advance to finals.

#5 Maher ranked Oldham County (11-1-3) displays a high powered offense beating #8 Dupont Manual by a score of 7-2. Clayton Wirth now with 31 goals and 11 assists. Jonathan Huerta with 17 goals and 18 assists. Oldham County plays Trinity and St X next week. Should be interesting.

Agree 100%. They are playing tougher competition this year and she's scoring against quality opponents. I mean it's not like half her goals are coming against a Dayton or Bellevue.

Thomas Nelson plays tough competition. They have the 8th toughest KY schedule according to Maher with an average opponent strength of 9.69. Their schedule is ranked tougher than 5 out of the top 10 Maher-ranked teams. Ashley Ritchie has scored against #3 Assumption (1), #13 Male (3), #17 Madison Central (2), #25 Bethlehem (2), and #29 Elizabethtown (2). The only team TN has played who Ms. Ritchie did not score against was #6 West Jessamine.

#7, #45, #5, #27, #63, and #30 respectively. That is Maher rank across all schools. Not bad competition for smaller schools.

Great result for Boone. It'll be interesting to see if Ryle can rebound against McNick tomorrow night. I thought Kareem looked very good way back at Soccerama. He only has 3 goals and 4 assists so far this season. I'd expect him to be on the stats sheet a bit more often. Has he been hurt or not playing for some reason?

The tournaments should be for the kids who regularly play on the team. If they happen to also get minutes on JV or Varsity that is fine. For some schools this is an absolute necessity, for others it makes sense whether driven by numbers, injuries, rewarding a player with a call-up, or looking at a player who might contribute post-season. I doubt any coaches would try to game game the system, but if bright line rules are needed, I would suggest as follows: JV Regionals... must play at least as many JV games as Varsity games; and must not play in more than 50% of the Varsity games played before JV Regionals. Freshmen... must be a regular member of the freshman team. Note: If freshmen could be brought down from JV solely for the freshmen tournament, then CCH could have brought 5 freshmen down (they didn't) and Highlands could have brought 9 freshmen down (they didn't).

... and instead of the "we believe" cheer, the student section can break into the following refrain after the other team scores: "That's alright, that's OK; You'll be working for us someday"

In world football (soccer) I believe the series is knotted at 2-2 over the past 4 years. Lots of good athletes and excellent young men at both schools. Not sure about golf. But my dad can beat up your dad.
