All the Right Moves

Raceland’s jv is very good and most of them are also starting varsity guys. Bath County and Raceland’s varsity and freshman teams played pretty even, especially varsity.

Bath Co won the 1st quarter and Raceland won the 2nd. I think both varsity’s saw what they needed to. Good scrimmage. Great atmosphere.

You either can play or you can’t. Schools find you if you can and they have found him.

Bath County and Powell County were both preseason "favorites" in Cats Pause to win their 3A districts. Swartz from Bath County is listed on the watch list but Austin Reed (6'7" 225 DE/TE) from Bath County and Nathan Skidmore ( 6'0" 200ish RB/LB) from Powell County should be in consideration as well. But this is all preseason. Time will tell on all of the predictions.

I agree but in a different way. 5A school with only 6 seniors and the loss of an All State caliber running back may move them down this list.

No games tonight. 2 sessions tomorrow night at Bath County (Bath Co, Raceland, Fleming Co, Nicholas Co) and East Carter (East Carter, West Carter, Greenup Co, Fairview).

I think Lewis could get a few wins.

Going as good or not as good?

According to reports I have heard yes. They play Russell at Russell in the Grid Saturday at 8 pm. Should find out then.

Could be a good year on the new turf for Bath County. Like all teams you have to show up and play your best every week and stay healthy. Early season opponents in Raceland (grid), 3A district 8 favorite Powell Co, and top 10 Western Hills and Mr. Football candidate Wandale Robinson will give the Wildcats great competition in the 1st few weeks to get ready for the district. District 5 winner gets home field thru the playoffs and that has always proven huge. Time will tell.

Lewis has 32 on their KHSAA roster with 12 seniors. Offut will be greatly missed. They could pick off a few early wins but Greenup Co as the opener will be tough along with the last 4 games of the season (West Carter at home and road games at Bath County, Russell, and Mason County). A playoff berth is possible if they can pick off Fleming Co at home and Pendleton Co on the road.

Going to be a very big blow.

Powell Co will give MoCo all they can handle. If they can defend the Davis kid Powell can win the game.

Given that Belfry, Boyle Co, Corbin, Western Hills, E’town, Caldwell Co, Casey Co, LaRue Co, Bell Co, and Lexington Catholic are all in other regions I would agree....we are all happy. 9 of the top 10 from CalPreps 2017 final rankings are not in region 2. District 3 will play District 5 in 2018 and the key may be home field advantage especially in November. Central and Waggener were the 2 highest ranked in 2017 but Bath County, Russell, West Carter, and Fleming County were the next 4 highest for the 2018 region. It’s a long bus ride between the regions regardless of who is there. It will be better not to be on a bus.

Rowan has one more year in the current alignment and cannot get out of it fast enough. The new district is much more favorable as Johnson Central, Ashland, East Carter, and Greenup Co are all in new districts. The 2018 roster is down 25+ players vs last season but will still have 50+. The new offense could assist in giving the Vikings a shot at some district wins and a playoff berth.

Will be interesting to see how graduation has affected both teams.

West Carter will be fast, strong, and athletic and should take no one by surprise. They are a very good team and teams will have to prepare for them as if they are the best team they play.

New turf field and new visitors bleachers at Bath County will be seeing their 1st action. There is plenty of seating and should be 2 good games. Hope to see everyone there.

Hope it is a good game. Both teams will play hard but both have higher goals for the season as well. Good luck to the Rams.

Another poster has already said this as well but Bath County at 13 won't last long. They will be in the top 8 mix by 2018. Bryce Williams and Tyler Brown will be the Senior leaders of the team but there are 4 Juniors that may be the leading scorers. Spencer Pergrem dropped 30 on Breathitt Co in their scrimmage Saturday. 6'8" Austin Reed, 6'4" Jake Porter, and 6"3" Chandler Otis are all capable of a double-double any night. I also think Morgan Co, Lewis Co, and Menifee Co are too low. Raceland, West Carter, and Fleming Co may be too high. Alexander was the motor for Fleming Co. Even with Glasscock, Crump, and the other Seniors someone will really have to step up big to fill his role. West Carter lost more than Roe and Jordan. Brown and Roark averaged 21 points per game between them. The Comets averaged 71 pts/game last year and 58 of them graduated. Raceland may wind up a #4 in that district with Greenup Co, Russell, and Lewis Co.

I'll bet E'town's side will be standing room only. They see this as their shot especially with the graduation losses on the horizon.
