  1. I was shocked by how many times Paintsville threw the ball. Especially on the drive where the 1st Pick-Six occurred effectively ending the game. A nice drive was put together, down 3 with around 1:30 left in the game, and on the 20 yard line going in. 3 or 4 shots near or in the endzone, and then a repetitive play call ended up with a Lewis making a great play and scoring. I just thought they were in far too big of a hurry on that final drive, but the QB is young and he will learn from this. The box score I saw from after the game showed Paintsville was 8/32 passing for 157 yards. Raceland had a great gameplan and absolutely earned the victory. Hats off to their kids and staff on a fantastic group effort in an extremely hard hitting football game.
  2. WVU commit Tyrese Allen completely took over the 3rd Quarter for Paintsville. 5 Rushes 117 yards 2 TD 1 Reception 48 yards 1 TD Blocked Punt for Safety Completely swung the momentum in the Tigers' favor, and sealed the deal. Congrats to Bracken County on a historic season! They really have things trending in the right direction.
  3. I wonder if any other schools in the state has an athlete with accolades similar to this?? Geordan is one of the most impressive all around athletes I've seen in a long long time to come through the area. He works his tail off and deserves any success that will surely come his way in life.
  4. Both teams come into this game at 2-0 with convincing wins thus far. Last year's regular season game didn't disappoint as the Tigers won on a 2 point conversion in OT. But the Panthers won the playoff match-up on their way to a state championship. Who wins this highly anticipated game?

  7. I do. They beat them 56-28 earlier this season, at Hazard. I'm not sure if there was a running clock in that game or not. But unless Hazard has improved drastically I don't look for it to be close.
  8. Pikeville should cruise to the semi-finals. I don't expect them to play a game without a running clock in the first 3 rounds. They should be very rested and healthy where I expect they'll meet Paintsville. That will be the biggest football game that the mountains have seen in a long long time. I look for it to be Beechwood vs Paintsville on the carpet.
  9. I look for Shelby Valley to move the ball early on and eat up a little bit of clock. I'm not sure that they'll be able to slow the Paintsville offense though. I think the coaching staff makes proper adjustments and the Tigers win and complete their first undefeated regular season since 1978. Paintsville 35 Shelby Valley 14
  10. 2 Touchdowns (1 passing and 1 rushing) and a bunch of tackles. Kent Phelps had 3 rushing touchdowns in the first half also on some big runs. Starters were pulled after 1 possession in the 2nd Half.
  11. Kash Daniel- Paintsville (Played 10-11 Total Quarters this Season thru 4 games) Passing 19-34 274 Yards 4 TD Rushing 41 Carries 280 Yards 7 TD Defense 56 Tackles 4 Forced Fumbles 2 Fumble Recoveries Responsible for a total of 72 Points including 3 2-Point Conversions.
  12. 1986 Apple Bowl. Paintsville vs Johnson Central. #2 in Blue is Joey Couch who was an All Conference Defensive lineman at UK.
  13. 1960 Army All American from Paintsville Mike Minix (#18). MVP of the Army All American game, and the nation's leading scorer in 1960. He was "The Highest Scoring Football Player in America" according to the program for the game that featured names like Joe Namath, Dick Butkus, and John Huarte (Heisman QB 1964 at Notre Dame).
  14. I was actually at the 62-8 blowout, and then the game the other night as well. The biggest difference from what I saw between the Tigers then and now was the ability to move the ball efficiently. In the first match-up it was Daniel at QB and Belcher (who played with a cast if I remember right) in the backfield, with Trimble running some sweeps as a Jet type of play. Last time they played, Paintsville's starting center was out, and if I'm not mistaken LeMaster was out as well (multi year starter but has fought the injury bug over the years). The Pikeville line didn't get a whole lot of pressure on Kash Friday night, unlike the beginning of the year, when he was running for his life the entire night. The ability to put lengthy drives together and take care of the football was part of the win, but the defensive effort was just SPECTACULAR. The defense bent but did not break. Chirico had these guys placed perfectly in many situations that they found themselves in during the first game. There was an incredibly smaller amount of missed tackles by the Tigers in this one. Every time Pugh carried the ball there were 4 or 5 white jerseys swarming to him. Paintsville also took away the deep ball threat for the majority of the game. There was one play in particular where the coverage was busted deep but Charles overthrew his receiver. The lack of ability to throw the ball with confidence forced Pikeville to run the ball more, which doesn't allow their incredibly speedy skill players to be involved too much, especially Estepp. I think the Tigers forced 4 turnovers? I know also that 2 calls that were debatable fumbles were ruled otherwise (one was overturned after an initial ruling of a fumble) so it could have been worse surprisingly, assuming that they would have been able to capitalize on the forced mistakes. I've watched a ton of Paintsville football over the years, and this was the single most gutsy performance by a group of our kids that I've ever seen. Completely against the odds, and embraced that underdog role and took it to, according to some, the best team in Class A to this point of the season. I just hope that lightning can strike twice for the Tigers' sake.
  15. Is there a radio station in the NKY area carrying this game? Our local FM station in Paintsville isn't carrying it.
  16. Honestly there's not a lot of movement going on. Maybe a baseline cut or something, but other than that against the zone tonight (2nd half at least) they just kind of passed it around the perimeter. They ran a few high low plays with Hall at the foul line, and the pass to Gullett resulted in a couple fouls. I'll take my chances with that, just not sure why they didn't do it more like you said. Luckily they can generate some offense with their defense forcing a lot of turnovers. Salyer is great coming off the bench, he brings in some toughness and some more size. He's not 6'6 like I saw someone say, more along the lines of 6'3-6'4, but still that's effective when he can stretch the defense as an inside out type of player. Love his game.
  17. I don't think they look for Hall enough on the offensive end either. I've seen them play a few times this season, and they very rarely (to my knowledge) run many plays for him. He's small in size physically, but his athleticism makes up for it at the high school level. Like I saw someone say earlier, I'd like to see them run more sets with Gullett and Hall on the same side of the ball. It forces the defense to decide if they want to double down on Hall in the paint because Gullett is a high percentage threat from deep. Johnson Central has lived off their defensive pressure this season and that's what won this one for the Eagles. Outstanding game to watch. That's what a state tournament game is all about.
  18. I'm anxious to see what this "tweak" that Calipari made in the offense that's apparently changed the identity of this team. I read somewhere that they had the pads and helmets on during practice (which isn't completely unusual) to encourage more physical play. That'll be a must as LSU is a tough/hard nosed team. The Harrison's have to be able to stop the ball when LSU tries to get out in transition. That's the key to the game if you ask me. Solid transition defense from the twins is a MUST. Hickey has 31 points 14 assists 5 steals and only ONE turnover against UK in the two games this season, and somebody's gotta try and step up and slow down O'Bryant. The kid can just flat out play. Gotta have a big game effort out of Randle, he's pretty much done nothing but get rebounds against them in both games this season aside from the put-back to win the game. I honestly can't make a prediction because I don't know what UK team will show up. Hopefully they can make a big turn around. I'll go with the Cats 79-73.
  19. Really impressed by how well Johnson Central played defensively in this one. Their press and halfcourt defense were both very high intensity. McPeek played an outstanding game, the kid flew around all over the place and had probably 4 or 5 steals. If the Eagles maintain that kind of intensity on the defensive end, they'll be an extremely tough out in the coming days.
