  1. Couldn't agree with this more. Most impressive is the depth of so many 9th region teams. Others may disagree but I think there are a number of 9th region role players that would be the go to players on many other teams outside of the region. May be pure lucky times for the 9th but I believe it has more to do with strong AAU programs in the region over the last several years which has led to increased interest and skill development. I think you have a strong list here. Interesting thread to complement best players could be go to role players in the 9th...because I really think the region is loaded.
  2. I think this should be a very competitive game. The Camels have certainly come on strong and have some great talent. Ryle has 3 losses in 2015 (after an up and down December). The 3 losses after returning to school in January have been to top 20 teams Highlands, Male, and Holmes in OT. I look for this one to go to the wire but anything can happen.
  3. Here you go..From WCPO.com By Dan Wright Senior forward Alexus Mayes nailed a 3-pointer with under 10 seconds remaining to tie the score, and Holmes went on to hold off Ryle’s upset bid, defeating the Raiders in overtime, 50-45, Friday night. Mayes had not scored prior to making her only field goal of the game, which tied the score at 39. Junior forward Aimee Jump followed that basket by hitting a 3-pointer on Ryle’s final possession of regulation, but the basket was ruled to have come after time expired and was not allowed. Sophomore guard Jaynice Stovall and junior guard Jynea Harris each scored five points for the Bulldogs in the overtime, with Stovall making three of five free throws. Mayes had Holmes other point in overtime, when Holmes made five of 10 free throws. Harris led Holmes with 15 points, followed by 10 by freshman guard Laila Johnson. Jump matched Harris with 15 points, and also pulled down six rebounds with seven blocks. Junior forward Carly Lange added 11 points for the Raiders. HOLMES 13- 8-11- 7-11—50 at RYLE 4-11-13-11- 6—45 HOLMES (23-1): Parker 1 2 5, Mayes 1 1 4, Harris 6 1 15, Gulley 0 2 2, Stovall 2 3 7, Englemon 2 3 7, Johnson 4 0 10. Totals 16 12 50. RYLE (13-8): Scherr 3 2 9, Jones 0 1 1, Schwartz 3 0 7, McGregor 0 2 2, Lange 3 2 11, Jump 4 6 15. Totals 13 13 45. 3-pointers: H—Harris 2, Johnson 2, Parker, Mayes. R—Lange 3, Scherr, Schwartz, Jump.
  4. Could not agree more ..lady Raiders were fired up with the fan support and almost pulled off the upset..FANtastic environment with fans nearly rushing the court to celebrate Jumps buzzer beater 3 and returning to the seats after the ref wave off ....credit to Bulldogs for composure in OT...
  5. I believe "imitating" would be a better term...it wS just an exciting environment with students really in to the game ...yes there were some chants of "sit down coach" but nothing more than you would see in any spirited environment.
  6. Congrats to Holmes for the good OT win...this game had runs by both teams with the Bulldogs jumping to a double digit lead quick...I believe Holmes was up by 10 at the end of 1st quarter..Ryle settled down in the 2nd with #20 (8th grader Mcgregor) helping to break the press and Ryles bigs taking away most of Holmes inside looks...the bulldogs hit some impressive 3's to to keep the 5 point lead at the half (# 12 and # 4 nice shooters). The 3rd was a back and forth battle with Ryle cutting it to 4. Lady Raiders actually took the lead with somewhere around 3 minutes to go but Holmes quick defense led to some timely steels with Holmes finishing at the other end. It looked like Ryle might hold on to win but Holmes hit a big basket to tie then turned ryle over and had the ball with 40 seconds left. Lady Raiders played tough D, denied a game winner by Holmes and shot the ball down the floor where Raiders #23 (Jump) hit a 3 that would have given the upset win..waived off by ref and on to OT. Holmes D really stepped up in OT and Lady Raiders turned the ball over too many times....not sure if fatigued but also not sure why one of the best shooters, #10 (Jones) did not get back in the game for OT..All in all, a hard fought game and good luck to Holmes the rest of the way..they are the real deal. But I believe the Lady Raiders head to tournament time understanding who they are and the opportunity that could be there.
  7. From WCPO.com, by John Lachman Junior guard Mallory Schwartz notched 15 points, eight rebounds and a pair of steals as Ryle edged Cincinnati Turpin, 47-44 in overtime on Wednesday. The Spartans hit a 3-pointer in the closing seconds of regulation. Then after Turpin hit a field goal to start overtime, junior guard Madison Jones drained a 3-pointer to put the Raiders ahead for good. Junior forward Carly Lange hit four free throws later in the OT to seal it. Junior forward Aimee Jump added 10 points and eight rebounds for Ryle, scoring eight of her points in the fourth quarter to force the extra session. TURPIN 8- 3-13-16- 4—44 at RYLE 9- 7-10-14- 7—47 TURPIN (13-3): Mills 2 6 11, Christopher 4 2 11, Gebhart 0 1 1, Campbell 2 10 15, Kerregan 2 0 4, Walsh 1 0 2. Totals 11 19 44. RYLE (13-7): Scherr 2 0 4, Jones 3 0 7, Schwartz 6 2 15, McGregor 0 1 1, Lange 0 6 6, Jump 3 4 10, Rice 2 0 4. Totals 16 13 47. 3-pointers: R—Jones, Schwartz. T—Mills Christopher. JV: Turpin, 41-21.
  8. Final from Union tonight. Sluggish and physical game at times. Credit to scrappy Turpin team that never quit, hitting a 3 close to buzzer to send it to OT and quickly taking the lead in OT...credit to the Lady Raiders for stepping up in the 4th and OT to hang on for the win. Ryle has 8 Ws of the last 10 games and faces a tough test Friday night when Holmes comes to Union.
  9. I would agree as Ryle has beat Boone twice and Scott.. Do think the top 3 is more accurate.
  10. Final from Boone County. Another very good 33rd District game..Ryle did lead the entire way but the Rebels kept bouncing back, cutting a couple of 10 point leads down to 5 point leads..Boone had it within 3 late into the 4th quarter but Ryles defense came up big along with solid ball movement and hitting their key shots. Lady Raiders close out month of January winning 7 of 9 with the 2 loses coming at the hands of "top 10 in the state" Highlands and Male.
  11. Cooper is well coached and obviously getting better through the year. District tourney will be an interesting one!
  12. Agree tonight's rematch at Boone should be a great environment and fun game to watch. Hopefully Jones is healthy and back on the floor. Nel will have a game plan to take something away..this will be a great test for the lady Raiders!
  13. Preseason article referenced Ryle as a sleeper in the 9th..looking like a good prediction. This team has the fire power but needs to put it all together at the right time. If they do, a dangerous match for anyone.
  14. Double wow ! Hats off to both teams and congratulations to HC on back to back big wins. Of course a 1 point double OT game means HHS is prime for a regional rematch.
  15. Great environment! Packed House for two very good 9th region teams. Hats off to HC on a big win...Mayhause had a great game!. Hats off To Holmes for a monster comeback #33 was particularly impressive. Shame the 9th can only send one to the sweet 16 this year.
  16. Final from Union last night 1/21 GBK: Ryle tops district foe Conner - Story
  17. Little late but hats off to Highlands for solid shooting and very good defense in this one. Expected Birds to turn up the heat defensively but didn't know it would come from the boiler room too..whew..hot gym! Raiders missed too many shots and turned the ball over too much..not their best outing but credit to Highlands D for good portion of that. As a fan, I'd like to see Ryle have a 2nd shot...but a tough 33rd district tournament comes first. Good luck to HHS rest of the way.
