Top Returning Players for 2016 in Eastern Kentucky
Along with Peyton and Ethan, I'll add Shelton Kouns for West Carter. I look for him to have a great season. Great motor. Loves to be physical.

Have to go with what gives you the best option to win. Sometimes that's a true QB and sometimes that's an athlete that has been trained as a backup QB or has a specific package. Our backup this year was one of our slots. If he was only a QB that would have taken one of our athletes off the field.

Love it if we're not healthy. Love it as a way to work on fundamentals and to get better. Hate everything else about it.

Of course around 1995 was a good year for the Comets. Football and both girls and boys basketball were all pretty good.

Hands down best ever in my book. Special group of kids at West high right now. Volleyball and football best seasons ever. Boys soccer finished extremely well. Track and baseball should be lights out.

Top DLinemen in 2015
For NEKY, William Jordan, #70 at West Carter. EKC defensive player of the year. I'm biased, but he was the best DL I saw this year in person. On the state level, I can't imagine more are better than what Belfry has, especially Horton. My goodness they're good on film.

Should get work every day even if it is just kicking, snapping and catching kicks.

If you're trying for perfect play balance I think you're probably over thinking it. As a defensive coach, the most "balanced teams" that we see are teams that are dangerous in both phases of the game. Maybe they throw 30% of the time, but they complete 60% of their passes, etc. Those teams are the ones that end up with 200 rushing and 150 passing yards, which is harder to plan for than a team that excels in one area. However balance is overrated IMO. How balanced is Belfry? That's the team we're all chasing in 3A. Champions are made in high school with every offense. Single wing, Air Raid, Wishbone, Flexbone option, spread option, etc. will all win titles this year across the country.

With that said, if you are automatically in the playoffs, I could see where there is no benefit to playing.

Absolutely. Playoffs are huge experience. A lot of our success this year came from the confidence from our playoff game last year. We weren't 1-9 or anything like that but we were a four seed, playing a 1. We got down 24-0 right off the bat. Came back and made it a one score game late in the game. Showed our kids how good they could be. Next thing you know we go 9-3 and set school records. Ironically our 2nd round game this year was nearly identical to last years game at Garrard.

Depends on what the competition is doing. If the teams you play 2 platoon, you probably need to if possible.

If it's a run play, probably keep going to it.

Depends on the offense and the play. Some offenses are better suited to keep teams guessing.

Kind of a danged if you do, danged if you don't situation. No right answer, depends on the coach. If you go for two and get it, you're a hero, don't and people say you should have kicked it. Tie the game and lose in overtime, and you should have went for two. That said, even as a defensive coach I personally like going for two in that situation.

Why or why didn't you attend the state finals games?
WKU is an awful location. Great stadium, but too far from Louisville, Lexington or NKY.
