Well don't give up the day job to become a detective. 1) have many mutual people from numerous schools and follow high school sports due to their daughter and sons playing. 2) I was not referring so softball when asking "who was going to fill her spot" if you look it is is a basketball thread and my reference is towards whom would run the point. Actually the game I attend this evening the talk was on basketball and next season and how the loss of certain players would effect certain teams which led me to take a look here. Now was something said about the Shimming Stars yes, and their roster of players which as stated I follow some, but due to mutual friends on the team the assumption was made. So inspector on this one your are incorrect. Follow schools and players yes, mutual friends at a number of schools yes, but as much in the know for things at NCC...... Not as much as you would think but observations at times sure, you got me. Honestly the person that usually give the most "in the know info" would be YOU.

Actually not until looking at the softball thread. I follow some of the girls on this team and knew they were going but had no idea on this one. My next question was going to be who her replacement was? Sounds like you may be overthinking this one but i assume this will provide for additional conversation on one of the 2 threads?

Actually no bait intended at all. Been noticing the box scores lately and with a big seeding game coming up around the corner with the Lady Birds and their pitcher out and not seeing Ware in the box scores I was hoping she didn't also suffer an injury. Now your answer does suprise me. While not an injury this still is a blow to the Lady Breds I assume . As for additional comments....... Not going to bite on this one, your answer speaks for itself and I guess proves RCC correct on the importance of this tourney??

Did I say just softball??? No I just quoted your facts on numbers and the perception that is gives. To say that student/athletes do not transfer to HHS because of sports is also what I would seem to call "comical". Let me throw some names of the past at you and tell me that there is not a tradition/perception of student athletes transferring to HHS. Malie, Draud, Lankheit, Smith, Lorenzen....., Schafer, Daley, Cutter, and as for Spencer... didn't she transfer the day before softball season was to start last season?? So perception is that athletics does play a part in this. I am not as up to date on the current athletes, but the ones from the past. My comments are regarding you original statement, not your team, just using your numbers. You have spent a lot of time and energy about the All A Classic and your thoughts against it, so you should expect some feedback both negative and positive. If those whom you speak of support your thoughts, then have them join BGP if not already a member. Again, PERCEPTION is what everyone is speaking of, you on the other hand are giving numbers that support facts not perception.

You are 100% correct. My reply was more of a statement than a question, but now since the "one day" has come and the response was given, most of what I stated was given in RCC9 own admission/response. I have so many questions to the response, but not the time to break each one down. I guess one question would be that if 50% of his team is from out of district wouldn't that be a high number and directly related to sports?? There are a lot of kids that will be from out of district, but not want to play college ball, but still transfer for sports..... so unless I did not fully understand that statement I would say that most do transfer for sports??? JMO. Also, to add to that, if the alumni want their children to attend HHS for just the education then they should do what their parents did and move to Ft. Thomas. Parents make sacrifices for their children all of the time and proper planning will allow them to attend the school of choice and live in district. Planning a child's education is not a overnight decision, many years of thought and planning go into this, so to me the out of district issue could be avoided.... again, JMO

As a basketball person and no dog in this discussion/fight.... how about the following: Take away the out of district student/athletes, educational guardianship student/athletes and possible transfer student/athletes currently at your school,enrollment may possibly be low enough to participate in the ALL A. Then you would see the excitement and opportunity that this provides for student athletes to show their talents throughout the state. I have never seen someone so worked up about a tournament that they don't / can't participate in, especially when it was stated in one of your very first comments that you were done commenting..... looks like you place a lot of thought into your posts???:idunno:

Alexus Mayes needs to either play with some intensity or take a seat, that's all I'll say. Your quote if I am not mistaken. IMO I do not feel it is the place of someone/parent/adult to call out a student/athlete that is 17 or 18 years old. While I feel this forum is for objective comments good or bad, to call out a young adult if feel is just not the right thing. Is it your place to "call them out" as you put it? When working with teenage student/athletes they are just that ...... TEENAGE and impressionable and have feelings. We all know that players will read things such as this and if you think it doesn't leave a hurt feeling in that young ladies heart..... well think again. By your own admission you have a daughter, you may say you can accept if your comments such as this are made about your daughter and you may be fine, but how would your daughter feel??? Seems to me you are missing the big picture. Its not about adults, its about the teenage student/athlete you are "calling out", that's what you may need to consider. To me its up to the coach to take care of "sub-par" performances. So my question is, if she had a bad first half which I witnessed and in the second half she seemed to pick it up a bit which I also witnessed, was it due to your "calling her out" or a coaches adjustment??? The point to my response to your first comment, was to consider the players feelings and possible damage it could not only do to her, but also team chemistry.

So which sport do you coach?? Not so sure I would be happy with your comment if it was my daughter. As I watch this game how do you know she may not be feeling well? Not trying to make excuses but just giving this young lady the benefit of the doubt.

Could someone let LB13 know that this one of the players omitted from his game report. Doesn't he play quite a bit??? In all seriousness, McDonald and Franzen played key parts in this victory. The minutes Franzen gave were critical in adding depth to the NCC bench. House full of girls or not.... seems hard to miss this one.

Not sure about a M.O., what I wittnessed IMO was disrespect. No doubt he is a very good player, but there should also be respect for authority. No player or coach for the matter is ever above respect!! Some will say that Holmes may have taken Highlands lightly or looked past them but Coach Listerman had a very good game plan and his team did a very good job of excuting, just didn't have the depth needed to pull off the upset.

My suggestion would be to contact Stan Steidel with this question. Due to the fact he is one of the founding fathers of All A Tourney and a member of the KHSAA Board of Control, I would think that there are no infractions here??

Congrats to Drew. A very well deserved accomplishment for a young man that works so very hard every day on and off the court!!!

So what you're telling teams is pack it in and let NewCath shoot all they want? If they hit, they win, if they don't, you win? So if you're NewCath just play into their hands. Let them call the shots? IF you're the better team, you call the shots. I'm not letting the other team dictate how I play. If I'm NewCath I know I have the better team and I'm going with my bread and butter. Establish an inside game (higher percentage shot), go inside out, and outside. Just don't fire away. Or who wouldn't just pack it in? My point is that NewCath didn't even TRY to get the ball in the paint last night. It wouldn't surprise me if they attempted more 3 point shots than 2 point shots last night. And I wasn't in any way comparing abilities amongst players - D1 vs D2 vs NAIA. I was merely stating a fact that NewCath has great talent in not one, but two post players and they are not using them. I would hate for a guard oriented program see it go to waste. Not only do the guards need McDonald and Schulte, they need the guards. Having two of the best in the state in one program may never come along again. Use them! You totally misinterpreted the statement.

What you're failing to mention is that there was NO inside attack. Some of the post points came from offensive rebounds (no attack) and a 3 point shot by Weyer (no attack). I only recall two moves on the block (5 feet and in) where the post players actually received the ball in the paint. The rest were moves from 6 feet and out by the post players themselves. The ball is simply being passed around the perimeter for an external shot. I am in no way saying that part of the game shouldn't be utilized. This team has ALL the pieces to make it work. But once again they are playing the same style they always have...pass and shoot. It's hard to watch. They finally have a great duo of post players and they are not using them. You can't tell me Cooper's defense did a better job than what they will see (in the future) and did see down state the past two weeks. How did Schulte and McDonald have a great tournament at KOB and LexCath, yet in Nky they can't get the ball? It's because the team has decided not to try to give them the ball. Right now they know they can win without them. Problem is, when the game is on the line and the team comes calling, it's hard to ask the bigs to step up right away. Great team win, no doubt, but it needs to involve all the players. That win last night did not involve the entire team. I'd like to see this team go all the way and not be another "could've been".

I've seen NewCath play about 5 games this season. Not once have I seen much attempt to get the ball to the post players. Tonight was hurtful to watch. This team has one of the biggest and most talented combo in the state in McDonald and Schulte, yet they are wasting their talent by launching 3's all night long. This team will struggle to win a regional championship if they don't utilize their assets, and that's a powerful inside game which consists of 6'8" Schulte and 6'7" McDonald. You can even throw 6'6" Weyer in the mix to be more deadly. NewCaths guards are very good, but that's not what separates them from other teams. CovCath and Holmes have great guards as well, along with the rest of the state. It's the D1 combination in the paint that takes this team to a different level, yet NCC seems not to use them. Can't figure it out! NewCath won tonight but it was not a fun game to watch. If they think they can turn it on and start using their inside game when competition comes knocking at their door, they'd better think again. It was very disappointing to watch this tonight, most of the people in our area of the stands were also scratching their heads trying to figure this out. If they try to get into a 3 point contest with CovCath on Friday, it could be a rough night.

Just watched the play on I High after seeing it in person and as I wandered on the drive back, after his man went done he may have been able to take it to the basket, but that is why you play these type of games in December..... to learn for March. Invaluable lessons for both teams tonight. March is going to be very fun to watch!!

The group that I was sitting with from NCC seemed to find this a nice challenge for the Breds and entertaining yesterday. Cordia is a talented athletic team that did make mistakes, but IMO it was due to a number of adjustments that Coach Dawn had made by mixing up the defenses and by making very timely time out calls, helped play a big part in the outcome of this game. The play of Weyer and McDonald today was very impressive. Weyer continues to get better as each game goes and he is maturing into a very nice player to compliment Schulte and McDonald. Knocking down the FT's late in the game shows this. The play of McDonald after a bit of a rough start was very impressive. Drew missed a couple of early shots early, but he made the necessary adjustments and in the second half seemed to just take over. As Randy P pointed out Drews touch around the basket is nice but there were other things that Drew did that help keep the Breds in the game. Down 4 late in the game Drew showed his range when knocking down the 3 when it was most needed in a pressure situtation and then very late in the game in OT he showed that he can play D also when he created the Cordia player to walk on a rebound on the NCC baseline which let to a key NCC basket. Its the little things like this that sometimes go unnoticed but have a direct impact to the game. The Moeves brothers are making their presence felt also. While this was a entertaining game to watch, its easy to see that NCC is not hitting on all cylinders at this point and when they do look out. Good teams find a way to win the close ones in December and I feel by watching this game yesterday the best is still yet to come. Coach Dawn is one of the best when it comes to having his teams play their best at tourney time. He is allowing his teams to play thru situations at this point to season them for district and regional play and while at times the coaches in the stands may get frustrated with his game plan or on certain adjustments, Coach is one of the best in teaching the game to these young men. This group will be fun to watch as the season continues and IMO I feel there best ball is still ahead of them. No matter what the results are at this time of the year, I am sure that very valuable lessons will be taught and learned to prepare his team for the late season run. While regular season records are impressive and nice to have, all records go back to 0-0 when the district play comes around and it gets down to one and out. Good luck the rest of the way!!

Well if this is the case, have the players, parents and all of those supporting Coach Murray thought of addressing the school board? If I am not mistaken doesn't the school board vote to renew the SI contract?? also, isn't the school board a group of elected officials??? Seems the voters/parents have a voice here. Now, as for Coach Murray I am sure there may be some possibility of legal recourse that could be taken, but as I have stated in my previous post, "is it really worth it?" To work in a school system and administration such as this it just would seem not to be worth the cost and stress of fighting this. The continual outcry of support speaks volumes and that is what really matters. I am sure that there is any school that would love to have a person/educator/coach such as Coach Murray and as they say, "good things happen to good people", and as for the Campbell County Administration.....KARMA BABY!! what goes around come around!!

After watching the reaction of the girls when Coach Murray entered the gym a few nights ago, it is very easy to see that this is/was a direct result of a influential parent/family getting their way. I guess I will have to ask the Administration of Campbell County.... "when will you put the kids first?" Is this not what schools are for??? To educate, develop, mentor and provide the children with life skills to enter the real world. It seems that Coach Murray has done all of the above and more and the reaction/support of his players speaks for itself!! This sense of entitlement just because of employment position or public stature is the real issue as I see it. It is people such as this that can ruin a persons career for their own personal gain!!! Being a educator is not easy, but being a coach is even less easy. It is parents such as what have created this entire mess that make coaches say "is it really worth it?" I know of NO coach that does this for the money. People just don't get it!! These coaches spend tremendous amounts of time away from their families, and for what, to do something that most parents are afraid to do which is have the guts to coach themsleves, but always want to complain about the coach and it is usually always about, PLAYING TIME!!! I haven't seen a parent yet that feels their child should play less, but I see only a few parents with realization of their son/daughters ability. VERY FEW tell their child to work harder or you have to get better, most parents want to push all blame to the coach, when in all reality how much time does the parent take to work with their child to better them??? It is hard to look thru this thread and find many if any complaints about Coach Murray, I have only met him a few times and I can say that I would have NO PROBLEM of this person coaching/teaching a child of mine!!! I will end with this last question: If what Coach Murray is supposed to have done was bad enough to have him lose his coaching position, then wouldn't that have also effected his teaching position?? I think it is very easy to see that this is Campbell County Administration politics hard at work again!! Good luck to Coach Murray in his future and Best of luck to the Lady Camels, both deserve better!!

I would estimate at least 15 boards for McDonald. There are a number of things that really impressed the group I was sitting with last night with Drew. One of the most impressive things was the way he attacked the boards. It is very easy to see that this young man really worked during the summer and this fall not only at his game, but with his strength. I was very impressed with Drew's physical appearance, I am not sure how much weight he may have lost, but it is very easy to see how hard this kid has been working. His mobility/agility on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball were a testament to his hard work in the off season. I am not sure who McDonald is training with, but whomever it is has done a great job with this kid. Look for a very good year for him!!

NDA wins the 9th Region title in 3 exciting games over a very tough Ryle squad. NDA had to come from behind in 2 of the 3 games to with the 9th Region crown. After a week of very good of volleyball NDA proved it was very worthy of all of the props that they have received all year long. In watching the tournament this past week, I was very impressed with the young talent that is in the 9th Region. Teams such as Ryle, St. Henry, Highlands and NCC all have very nice young players that will help take their respective teams to a level of challenging NDA over the next few years. One of the things that I do have to ask about is how the all region teams are selected? Is this done by the coaches nominating players or do the coaches turn in ballots of players in the tournament and those votes tallied to decide the all region teams. I noticed some omissions from the all tourney team that has me asking this question. The Nobel girl from St. Henry and McDonald girl from NCC seem to stick out the most. Both have been very instrumental in their teams success this season, and by watching them both play this week I am very surprised neither made the all tourney team. This is not to discredit any of the girls from those schools that made the all tourney team, but by listening to the crowd tonight after the all region team was announced, there were a number of comments regarding those two girls being omitted. By listening to the parents and their conversations it was easy to see that most were knowledgeable of the sport due to their daughters playing club ball either with or against these girls and as a casual observer it left me asking the question of how the team was selected. This is my first go around with high school volleyball. I can honestly say that the level of play was very entertaining to watch and I am looking forward for the upcoming years of volleyball in the 9th Region. If not mistaken AllenR stated: "they MAY get to play in the regional finals"... doesn't sound to me like a bold guess, just saying they MAY and as said, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN ON ANY GIVEN DAY, that's what is great about tournament time. But then the game may not be played anyway due to enrollment not scheduling. :lol2:
