One can safely assume that the PRP - CCH game established a Kentucky record for victories by opposing coaches. By my count, Coach K has 853 wins and Coach Miller has 992. 1845 career victories between two coaches in one game. Not to mention 5 state champions and dozens of regional titles. I suspect that this is the last of a line of men who have the devotion and willpower to stay at the same school for 30-40 years and have programs that seemingly never falter (or at least not for more than a year or two). Congrats to both coaches.

Purdue's undue pursuit of the not precipitous point guard is perverse and precocious.

I only have Fairdale with two returning starters (Thomas and Longacre). Lack of depth killed them this year, and will be a problem next year as well unless someone really blossoms. Thomas is really good and Longacre is a solid son of a coach. Not sure if they will have replacements for Crabtree, Payne, and Lowry. If they do, look out! It would be shocking if Ballard doesn't repeat in the 7th Region, even though Male, St. Xavier, and Trinity will be very strong. Ballard will be preseason #1 and Quinten Snider and Kelan Martin are dominating players, supported by great younger talent in Jalen Perry and Malik Dow. A word of caution for the future, watch out for Waggener (yes, I said Waggener). They have the best talent in their rising freshmen and sophomore classes in the Louisville area, and will be extremely hard to deal with beginning this year. PRP should win the 6th with lots of experience, size, and athleticism returning. Even though 5'10 Antonio McDaniels and 6'7 Lamontray Harris are the only returning starters from the Sweet 16 team, 6'7 D'Angelo Hunter, 6'3 John Oyler, and 5'10 Bryce Byrd started several games throughout the year and each scored at least 18 points in several games. Juniors Khalid Raheem and Richard Gaines will make PRP the fastest and most athletic team in the region. Doss, Iroquois, and DeSales all return a ton of talented players, but they are in the same district, along with Butler and Western, and making it out of the district is a crap shoot. Fairdale and Bullitt East lost so much talent, but they will be capable of being dangerous to anyone who plays them. Moore returns several players, led by premier PG Jaelin Sanford, and they beat PRP at PRP in the final game of the regular season. My order of rankings are: 1 -- PRP; 2 -- Doss; 3 -- Moore; 4 -- Bullitt East; 5 -- Iroquois; 6 -- Fairdale; 7 -- DeSales; 8 -- Butler.

Trinity will always have good players, but their facilities hinder their ability to get the best Catholic kids from Louisville. Trinity has no on-campus field, and there home field at a public park on the river is, quite frankly, a dump. St. Xavier on the other hand has a glittering sports turf facility that it on-campus. I don't think Trinity will ever be able to overcome St. Xavier until they upgrade the facilities.

Here is what I can see in Louisville: Bullitt East and Butler have a lot of very good hitters, but not sure how many returning players for great power. Hunter Johnson at PRP is all about power, with 6-7 HR last year with the BBCor bats. St. X has a lot of gap-to-gap guys, but the 400 foot fence to center and 375 to the alleys keep almost everyone in the park. Sean Dageforde at Trinity has a big bat. Harrison Scanlan at Manual is a power hitter but again plays a lot of games in a big yard. Male has a small ball park, so I look for a couple of multi-HR guys emerge this year. Michael Deleon at Ballard has the makings of a slugger. Eastern has hitters, but not sure how many guys will regularly hit for power.

AGREED!! Greatest basketball display I have seen in 20+ years of Sweet 16 games.

PRP has seen lots of speed, most notably South Shore HS from Brooklyn, whose PG is going to UConn. PRP won by 12. Taywan Taylor is lock down defender and a freak athlete who will likely draw Bolden. PRP's Antonio McDaniels is a jet quick PG who has been offered by NKU. 6'7 Lamontray Harris is the leading scorer and has several D-1 offers. 6'6 Robert Sawyer is a banger and strong rebounder. PRP has problems against a team like Trinity that is physically strong, athletic, and ferocious defensively. PRP has had off shooting nights as well. If they are not shooting well and Holmes makes some perimeter shots, Holmes will be in a good position. Game will be low scoring as PRP is an outstanding defensive team and has made their run through the 6th Region with crushing defense (42 points by Doss, 33 by Bullitt East, 44 by Butler). They showed that last night when two of there best players fouled out early. They know how to step up. These teams probably haven't seen the kind of speed holmes has or ball handling they have all year.

No doubt that it is Bullitt East. Two senior Mr. Basketball finalists, plus an unbelievably talented senior point guard, plus a 6'7 senior swing man in Elliott Young, plus a quality bench, plus back to back 6th Region championships, combined with only one loss to a Kentucky team and an earlier blowout win over PRP. Bullitt East losing to PRP is shocking, despite PRP's great tradition.

Final?

7th is wide open. Trinity, St. Xavier, Male, Ballard, and Eastern are hard to separate. Manual is capable of winning on any night as well. If I had to pick one, I would go with St. Xavier and their big bats. I like PRP in the 6th, although Bullitt East and Butler have more than enough talent and depth to win the region. Woodford County in the 11th, but that is an absolutely brutal region.

Bullitt East lacked a sense of urgency throughout the game, and Derek Willis avoided the paint for the last five minutes, which played right into PRP's hands. I would not be surprised at all if Coach Cal recommends a year for Derek at prep school to put on weight and add much needed strength.

It doesn't seem that Hollon was beatable last year. Per the KHSAA website, he was 5-0, ERA of 1.02, with 53 K's in 41 innings pitched, while only yielding five walks the entire season. In the state tournament games in Lexington, he was 2-0 (both shutouts), with 25 K's in 15 innings pitched, along with ONE walk and 11 hits allowed. Throw in a 96 mph fastball from a left hander, and you have the makings of a "not very beatable" pitcher. Parrett was "beatable" last year, suffering one loss against 11th Region competition. He was 9-1, 1.49 ERA, with 93 K's in 75 innings pitched with only 19 walks. Good luck beating either of these guys.

How Cory Thomas from Fairdale and Jaelin Sanford from Moore are not on the list is beyond me. I believe that Roush and Schulman from DeSales are nice players, but there is not a single coach in the world, including DeSales' coach, that could suggest with a straight face that Roush and Schulman are better than Thomas or Sanford in any category (quickness, shooting, defense, rebounding, ball-handling). Bizarre!!

Yes, because how are teams going to score against Parrett and Hollon? If Woodford can scratch out two runs when these guys are pitching, I like their chances. Brutal 11th Region (again) will be the biggest hurdle.

Bullitt East poses a very tough matchup for PRP. PRP has to play a near-perfect game and Bullitt East has to be out of sync. I look for Fairdale to come out of other bracket and play Bullitt East in the final. Fairdale has struggled lately, but they have already beaten Butler twice, and lost to Moore by 2 at Moore. Their starting five is outstanding, and they can shorten games with their ballhandling, and are really tough to beat when they make perimeter shots. Bullitt East over Fairdale in a close final is my prediction.

Tony Campbell played great in first half, and HC made a ton of early three pointers. PRP's depth began to take a toll in the third quarter, although it was a five point game with five minutes to play. HC went scoreless for a long stretch of the 4th quarter and PRP made almost all of their free throws. HC led 28-17 in the second quarter, but was outscored 58-27 the rest of the way. Taywan Taylor is almost as good in basketball as he is in football (25 points and eight rebounds). PRP's 6'7 junior center Lamontray Harris is a very skilled post player who scored 14. Campbell had 22, followed by Tiberi (13) and Gabbard (10).

Very surprising meltdown in the 4th quarter. Fairdale has been incredibly resilient, especially in the 4th quarter close games. Fairdale's bench is a glaring weakness, and Fairdale is very tough to beat when the five starters are all contributing. The rematch in a couple of weeks should be interesting.

The best 300+ throw ever recorded has to be Bo Jackson picking up a ball in the left field corner of the old Seattle Kingdom and nailing a very fast Harold Reynolds on a bang-bang play at the plate with a throw that went from the left field wall to the catcher's glove ON THE FLY!! Without a crow hop - picked it up, one step, and BOOM. Reynolds out at the plate. It has to be on video somewhere on the net.

Between Coaches Krumpelbeck (841 wins) and Miller (977 wins), there will be a lot of collective wins and wisdom on that field.

If the pitching outside of Carden and Ferriell develops as expected, look for the Bears to compete with PRP and Bullitt East for a trip to the state tournament. Fairdale's starting five is very, very good. They get killed, however, on the first substitution, and things get worse if they have to play two substitutes. Foul trouble is Fairdale's biggest enemy, and Ballard's speed, size, and depth may take a big toll. Ballard 84 Fairdale 67.
