Many expected Collins in the 8th.

12 Region also had some upsets.

4 teams that were considered by many to be regional favorites have fallen.

1st-Marshall Co.

8th-Collins

9th-Newport Central Catholic

12th-Pulaski Co.

 

All four lost to teams that were considered either co-favorites, or at least top 3 teams in their region. Collins was the only one that I was really surprised by.

 

The other major surprise to me was Pulaski Southwestern losing to Mercer Co.

Brutal Region, I am a little surprised Lex Cath got em though.

No doubt that it is Bullitt East. Two senior Mr. Basketball finalists, plus an unbelievably talented senior point guard, plus a 6'7 senior swing man in Elliott Young, plus a quality bench, plus back to back 6th Region championships, combined with only one loss to a Kentucky team and an earlier blowout win over PRP. Bullitt East losing to PRP is shocking, despite PRP's great tradition.

Just to hijack the thread a bit. Saw a Tweet from the BE coach. Apparently he must think the refs allowed the opposition to handle Willis to roughly again this year. One has to wonder how Mr. Willis will handle himself in the SEC.

Considering that was the crux of the "clean things up" mandate this past season, Lord only knows where officiating will go now.

The Collins loss did not surprise me. They beat South Oldham by 2 in OT at home in the regular season. I picked Oldham County in the 8th.
